Sky Sports duo Simeon Gholam and David Prutton gave a preview heading into the next game of the regular season, predicting the results of every fixture; listen to the podcast below or via any of your regular podcast providers.
BURNLEY v SUNDERLAND
Simeon: Kickoff is 8 PM. There’s a 2nd versus 4th. 2 of these sides that are really in that race promotion out of the big four we can call them now. Burnley win, sends them top. A draw will put them level on points with Leeds and as they’ll stay in 2nd, but below them on goal difference. Sunderland will go into 2nd with a win, a point up on Burnley, and level with Leeds. Big game. Yes. On Friday night.
David: Yeah. Apart from that ridiculous set of maths that’s just thrown me.
Simeon: Yeah. I mean, I don’t know. It doesn’t really need to be done at this point in the season, does it?So, yeah. No. Big game. It’s a promotion race, 6 pointer. I think we can call it a turf war and a a brilliant way for the Championship to return after 6 years away.
David: I was at the last league game for Sunderland, which is Pompey at home in a very, very cold Sunday, and they got the job done, which they seemingly, are very good at doing. Obviously, they take into account that win against Sheffield United the week before. And, Burnley, even it’s a weird one with Burnley because we’ve discussed it. We had Jack Cork on last time we were on to watch them beat Blackburn, obviously, then following up with a win in the cup. It for such a big team that’s got such recent and hefty Premier League experience and did so well, obviously, with the Vincent company getting up and out of the Championship. It almost seems like they’ve got a little bit of the radar, which is ridiculous when you’ve got Scott Parker in charge and the players they’ve got. But I think the work that he’s been doing, they’ve got a man who knows exactly how to navigate the division, And given the fact that people thought Leeds would run away with it and Sheffield’s not would be firmly ensconced up there next to him, I think it’s nice to have this little race that we’ve got. Yes. There’s a gap between Sutherland and Boro. So between the 4 of them, it’s a nice little kind of dust up, isn’t it?
Simeon: The problem is is they’re just going about their business in fairly inauspicious fashion. And the most impressive thing about them is their defensive record, which is unbelievable. Ridiculous. I mean, they’ve conceded less goals at this stage than any other championship team in history after 26 matches. The next nearest was the Reading, the unbelievable Reading Steve Coppell team that broke Championship points record 106. Even they’ve conceded 12 by this point. Burnley conceded just 9. But equally, no one no one really cares about defensive records, do they? Because it’s not fun. We want all the happening on the other end.
David: It’s not fun, but it but I tell you what, by and large, it’ll get you promoted.
Simeon: Our Sunderland fan, Finlay Anderson says, it’s a massive game on Friday for us in the promotion race. We’re managing to keep the pace of the top 3. And with Le Fee signing, it feels like the board think this may be our best shot at promotion. If we can overcome Burnley, we might start dreaming, and he’s gone for a 2-0 Sunderland win. And when we should, of course, talk about the signing of Enzo Le Fee briefly. Brilliant brilliant bit of recruitment for them. Roma paid £20,000,000 for him in the summer. Now he’s in the Championship, so I’m very, very excited to watch him play and be in action on Friday night. Burnley have won just 3 of the last 23 league games against Sunderland, failing to score in 5 of the last 7 matches against them, so not a good record against the Black Cats from the Claret. What’s the score going to be at Turf Moor on Friday night?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Burnley

CARDIFF v SWANSEA
David: Having been at both Cardiff and at Swansea for both sides of this fixture, I can attest to the atmosphere being absolutely wonderful. Quite clearly, it’s a game where Cardiff have got to start scrambling points and and making sure that they get or stay within touching distance.
Simeon: No. I mean, it’s always a cracking atmosphere, this one. It’s always it’s always a a form book out of the window kind of game, isn’t it? I know that’s a cliche, and it’s always one which it kind of almost matter. It it rises above their positions in the league table and rises beyond what matters in terms of this, that, and the other. And this is this is a yes. It’s more important than life in South Wales. After winning their most recent home league game against Swansea City in September 2023, Cardiff will be looking to win successive such matches for the first time since December 1985. What’s the score going to be at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday lunchtime?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-2

MILLWALL v HULL
Simeon: Alex O’Neil, still no wins yet in the league after 2 games in charge of Millwall. Disastrous times. I’m surprised his, jobs are hanging on the balance. Hull are in the bottom 3, but battled to that point against Leeds last time out in the Championship, which, I mean, should have given them a real bit of resolve and a bit of hope going forward. They did they did get kicked out of the cup by Doncaster at home on penalties at the weekend. But, I mean, that that’s probably for the best considering the position they’re in in the Championship, isn’t it, and what they need to do? It’s probably for the best. Yeah. Not ideal, but probably for the best.
David: It’s a bit of a sliding doors moment, isn’t it? I mean, it’s a bit slightly hypothetical that we saw Alex Neil go for the job of Hull. It didn’t quite work out. Now he’s in a job which is in a significantly better position than the one he was auditioning for. So he’ll know the ins and outs of what to expect from Hull, Hull and the Ruben Selles, marginally more backbone than I’ve had so far this season. It’s been tough though against Millwall. I think it’s that strange taken over of a manager when things are exactly going disastrously, but it was at the end of the line, wasn’t it for Neil at Millwall. So Alex Neil, the other Neil coming in and, getting a win under the belt, obviously, in the cup, but it’s that first, Viking three points that’ll be absolutely after. I’m sure it’ll be a rousing Millwall welcome for Hull.
Simeon: He’ll be chomping a bit. I have no doubt whatsoever. Millwall failed to win any of the last 5 league games against Hull City, failing to score in 4 of those matches. That’s it. No. They’ll I’ve got more, actually. The London outfit last endured a longer such run against the Tigers between January 1967 and January 1970. That didn’t really add anything. What’s the score going to be at the Den?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Millwall

PLYMOUTH v QPR
Simeon: Plymouth’s new manager, Miron Muslic. Yeah? I believe that’s how he pronounce his name.
David: Rousing speech, wasn’t it? What a speech. That was superb.
Simeon: I started watching it just, you know, just sat drinking coffee. And by the end of it, I was beating my chest out shouting green army. It was unbelievable.
David: With your top off, unbelievable. In at that at that Costa in, in Brentford. Very odd.
Simeon: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, they’ve already told me a few times they won’t let me back, but, you know But even they got forcing me back.
David: And they got inspired by the speech. Yeah. That was it. Yeah. That was incredible. It’s a huge job. It’s a ginormous job he’s got in his hands.
Simeon: But it was at least from the very least from a purely emotional, emotive start speech wise, it was it was very, very good, very exciting, very enjoyable. QPR, great form at the minute in the league. Great fun to watch as well. They’re still not great on the road. Having said that, they’ve got no wins in 4. Just 2 away wins. But QPR, do we feel like outside squeeze top 6 maybe?
David: Outside squeeze top 6 maybe, 8 points away from it.
Simeon: There was a question in there somewhere.
David: Yeah. It won’t be beyond the realms of possibility. It’s comprehensively better than what we’re doing at the start of the season, isn’t it? My word that is a turnaround. But I just think that that cliche about a new manager taking over and what it brings for a football club. The fact they’re at home as well, it could be pretty, testing affair, I think, for QPR over the weekend.
Simeon: Plymouth Argyle have lost just one of the last 14 league games against QPR since December 2004. Though 6 of those last seven meetings have ended in draws. QPR never win this game. But they don’t often lose it either.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Plymouth
LEEDS v SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY
Simeon: Leeds are top heading into the weekend. They may not be there by kickoff. We don’t know. Obviously, we can’t tell the future. Sheffield Wednesday are 3 points off the playoffs. Sheffield Wednesday, three points off the playoffs heading into the weekend and ensconced nicely in the top half. Big Yorkshire biff off this, isn’t it, between 2 of the biffiest sides in Yorkshire.
David: Yes. Always one that was fun to play in and always been one to fun that’s been fun to cover. It’s, nicely set up given what we’ve seen from Leeds. I was at the, cup game at the weekend, and they were made to work for it against Harrogate Town. I think this this is gonna be a close one, you know. I enjoy that, the atmosphere at Elland Road, but I think, potentially, you’ve got a Wednesday side that could give him a bit of a scare.
Simeon: Our Leeds fan, Eddie Gray, says I’m a Leeds fan. I think we’ve been a bit poor recently, but I think we will beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0. Sheffield Wednesday have lost just one of the last four away league games against Leeds and conceded just 2 goals in total across those matches. What’s the score going to be?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-2

COVENTRY v BRISTOL CITY
Simeon: Coventry unbeaten across their last 4 home league games against Bristol City. What’s the score going to be at the CBS Arena?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Coventry
DERBY v WATFORD
Simeon: Derby have lost just 3 of the last 15 home league games against Watford, scoring 2.1 goals per game over that period. What’s the score going to be at Pride Park?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0
LUTON v PRESTON
Simeon: Luton have failed to win any of the last 3 league games against Preston with those matches, witnessing just 4 goals scored in total. Matt Bloomfield in the dugout for Luton this weekend for the first time, of course.
David: Great job there for Matt, and we congratulate him on that. Obviously, commiserations to Rob moving on. He absolutely moving heaven and earth for Luton to get him in the Premier League. He’ll be back before he know it.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1
OXFORD v BLACKBURN
Simeon: Our Oxford fan, CamOUFC7 says it’s a tough one at home to Blackburn. Gary Rowett got the team playing and believing again. I still think these will have a bit too much for us, though, and he’s gone for 2-1 Blackburn win. Also, they lost each of their last 3 league games against Blackburn, and could see in 2 plus goals in each of those defeats.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1
PORTSMOUTH v MIDDLESBROUGH
Simeon: Portsmouth have won just won over the last 10 league games against Middlesbrough with that victory coming in 2008 in the Premier League. What’s the score going to be at Fratton Park?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Middlesbrough
SHEFFIELD UNITED v NORWICH
Simeon: Sheffield United are unbeaten across their last 8 league games against Norwich.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Sheffield United
WEST BROM v STOKE
Simeon: Our Stoke fan, Steve, says, I think Mark Robins with him now in charge. We will gradually climb the league. Genuinely hopeful we will now turn a corner with him in charge. This is a tough away game at the weekend, but I think we’ll be good for a draw, and he has gone one one. Stoke have won just 2 at the last 9 away league games against West Brom, failing to score more than one goal in all but one of those matches during that time.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 West Brom
