David Prutton’s Championship score predictions

David Prutton’s Championship score predictions have been revealed ahead of the next round of matches for the 2024/25 season.

The ex-Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Leeds, Swindon, Sheffield Wednesday, and England U21 footballer who currently works as a presenter, pundit, and commentator, has given his verdict.

Watch Stoke City v Hull City, Norwich City v Watford, QPR v Millwall, Sunderland v Middlesbrough and Preston North End v Blackburn Rovers live across Sky Sports with highlights of the other EFL matches on Sky Sports News, ITV and YouTube.

Sky Sports duo Simeon Gholam and David Prutton gave a preview heading into the next game of the regular season, predicting the results of every fixture; listen to the podcast below or via any of your regular podcast providers.

Stoke v Hull

Simeon: Stoke City versus Hull City live on Sky Sports Football from 7:30 PM. Kickoff is at 8 PM. Stoke, some manager of dismissals you just don’t see coming. Steven Schumacher is gone, and Narcis Pelach expected to be in charge by Friday night, a name I won’t pretend I knew before Tuesday this week. He was watching on as so big Fleetwood on penalties in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. They’re into the 4th round of that competition, but we’re here to talk about Championship. Hull City still about to win. Tim Walter was defiant after their game last Friday night against Sheffield United. I’m pretty sure we must have been watching different games because I didn’t see what he clearly saw. We’re worried for Hull at this stage. At least, we’re worried for Tim Walter.

David: No. And and this there’s a slight hint of curiosity at the MKM with regards to what, they’re attempting to do, and I mean that with no condescension whatsoever. Liam Rosenior left because he they wanted a change of football. They certainly got a change of football. He’s not garnered any resources yet. And as for Stoke, I actually spoke to Steven Schumacher, yesterday just to check on how he was, and it was, obviously, a lot of the conversation between me and him, but it absolutely was a bolt out of the blue going in on Monday morning, ready to get back to work for the week. And then it’s suddenly becoming, apparent that that wasn’t gonna be the case. So I think in mitigation for Steven, I don’t really know what Stoke is. They’ve chewed up and spat out several managers that are all extremely competent in at this level out there. So we’re interested to be seen, what the new manager brings. Again, I’m not used to me, and I don’t mean this with any hints of intended ignorance, but I don’t know. I’ve I won’t I’m not kind of a failure with this CV. And so we’ll soon see what one of his teams looks like and soon see what Stoke deemed this season to be when it comes to judging it as a success, at the end.

Simeon: Yeah. We’re not writing him on or off. We’re just admitting, which is the right thing to do. I don’t know who he is. You don’t know who he is. Hull City won one of the last 12 away league games against Stoke, though that sole victory did come last season. What’s the score going to be at the Bet 365 Stadium?

David: Do you know what? I’m gonna go for Hull City to win. I’m gonna go nil 1.

David Prutton’s score prediction 1-0 Hull

Sunderland v Middlesbrough

Simeon: It’s live on Sky Sports Football for 11AM. Kick off 12:30PM. Sunderland were beaten for the first time last weekend at Plymouth. Inevitable, really. Completely ruined my coverage. My interview with Regis le Bris is going out this week. Middlesbrough, steady start. They’re not really pulling up huge amounts of trees. They’ve got 8 points from 5 games so far.

David: I mean, it was cracking game when I mean, it’s a blessing some of the fans. And, again, I don’t mean that with any form of condescension. It’s a long, long way to go for a 93rd minute winner from the home side, isn’t it? So they’ll hope it’s right that wrong, come, Saturday. And as you say with Boro, still very much feeling like a work in progress. I still feel that there’s the makeup of a team that that could emulate potentially what happened here before last, which was obviously getting to the playoffs. Time will tell, though. But now this is really good game. 2 good footballing teams. And, hopefully, I say hopefully. It’s always the case. It’ll be an absolutely packed out stadium.

Simeon: I think over 40,000 expected. So it should be a hefty of an atmosphere. Our Sunderland fan, Finlay Anderson, says Saturday’s defeat was unexpected after the contrast in the start of both teams had, but when it mattered, we were poor. We need to respond on Saturday in a local rivalry and also respond to last season’s 4-0 defeat to the Stadium of Light. He’s gone for a 2-1 Sunderland win. A much more optimistic Sunderland fan, Lewis, says Sunderland will absolutely smash Boro 6-0. Of course, Sutherland did lose that game 4-0, at the Stadium of Light last season, so a bit for them to respond to there. Sunderland have won just one of the last 9 league games against Middlesbrough failing to score in 4 of their last 7 meetings with them. What’s the score going to be at the Stadium of Light?

David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-2

Norwich v Watford

Simeon: Norwich, just one win so far, fairly video to start, to be honest. Watford were held at Coventry last time out. Norwich, mediocre so far as I’ve said.

David: That’s an an absolutely fair point. I think that’s that’s not beyond the realms of, understandability, which is a word. And, obviously, again, I mean, it doesn’t help when you’ve got Forson score an own goal, but, hey, that’s what Swansea took last time out. And plenty to like about the way that Watford have gone about it so far. Yes. Winless, as you said in 2, but I don’t think any form of consternation is needed, so far with regards to that. Just 2 teams that need brighter starts than last time out, conceding any goals. Concentration potentially a biggie for a 12:30 kickoff on a Saturday. Another one on the on our plus platform that I’m really looking forward to.

Simeon: Norwich have lost 8 of their last 10 league games against what, but have conceded 2 or more goals in 6 of those matches. So they do not have a good record for Canaries against the Hornets. What’s the score?

David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1

QPR v Millwall

Simeon: A big London Derby as well. QPR, 6 points from 5 games. Had a mad cap draw Sheffield Wednesday last week.

David: Did you see that goal?

Simeon: Oh, it was it was brilliant. It was everything.

David: My mate said to me it was a Wednesday firm. I was chatting to him. I bumped into him in the supermarket up on Sunday. And he said he said, oh, I was listening to the equalising goal. And I don’t know whether he was listening or watching it on on, obviously, our wonderful soccer Saturday, whether he was listening to it on the radio or about. But he said, was it was it a set piece? Was it set up? And I went, I presume you’ve not seen it because it was. I mean, if someone’s set up if you got us as we all know with set piece coaches, that’s what the big question is with Ange and Tottenham, isn’t it? Make sure you have set piece guys to just went right. Get a goalie up, launch it in, and then just kick everyone for the next couple of seconds and see if it ends up in the back of the net. That way, it was just a wonderful Sunday League. It’s got on it.

Simeon: Millwall were beaten at home by Luton. Just one win this season so far, albeit a good one. I should mention, of course, QPR lost at Palace in the Carabao Cup in midweek as well. Millwall, what do we make for them so far?

David: I think I mean, it was it was a well thought out game from Luton, wasn’t it? And they had, Kaminski to thank for a couple of very, very good saves. Langstaff’s, I was gonna say in particular, but the thumping header at the back post with a couple of seconds left. Millwall would have come away with a point. So, yeah, listen to Neil after the game, he was broadly happy with what he’s seen, obviously, other than the other than the result. And as for QPR, yes. Carnage for that goal. Palace, being a Premier League team should be beating QPR. Oh, and that Eze winning goal was a deflection as well, wasn’t it, which is also about the kick in the teeth. So it’s plenty to like about what both teams have done to a degree so far. Can’t beat a London Derby, but lastly, I’ve correct myself. You can’t beat a London Derby because a Yorkshire Derby better. But a London Derby is always worth much more than welcome on a Saturday one to.

Simeon: Millwall have won just one of the last 12 away league games against QPR, considering 2 plus goals in 5 of the last 7 such matches. What’s the score going to be?

David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 QPR

Preston v Blackburn

Simeon: Preston, not quite motoring in the league yet under Paul Heckingbottom. Blackburn, such a good start, still unbeaten, scoring plenty of goals as well. Blackburn are unbeaten across their last four away league games against Preston. They could go 5 of that loss at Deepdale for the first time in the English Football League. What’s the score going to be at Deepdale?

David: It’s tough against Blackburn, won’t it? Tough, tough, tough, tough, tough.

David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1

Bristol City v Oxford

Simeon: Our Bristol City fan, Red Bristol says our manager will be having some sleepless nights this week after results against Derby and Blackburn with his former club Oxford arriving this week after the great start they’ve had. I think we can swing it, though, with a 2-1 win. Liam Manning, of course, playing against the side he left for last year. Our Oxford fan says so, obviously, not expecting much this year, but incredibly happy with the start we’ve made. Steal a few away draws and keep winning at home and we’ll be a Championship side next season. he’s gone for a 1-1 draw. Bristol City have won just won the last 14 league games against Oxford and they scored just 10 goals across that state. What’s the score going to be Ashton Gate?

David: 17th versus 7th. Who’d have thought that when you looked at these 2 ahead of the season. And then back to back 3 nil defeats for Bristol City, they need a reaction. But I think, you know, there’s a bit of that that nice little bit of motivation from Oxford United given I mean, Liam did a tremendous job at Oxford. Let’s not let’s not, let’s not be shy about that. But I think, speak to a speech in Oxford, go then do them for this one.

David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Oxford

Burnley v Portsmouth

Simeon: Burnley have won just 2 of the last 14 league games against Portsmouth, though they did win the last meeting between the pair. 5-1 in March 2012. What’s the score going to be at? I think the thing you need to take from that is I haven’t actually paid each other since 2012. What’s the score going to be at?

David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-0 Burnley

Cardiff v Leeds

Simeon: Our Leeds fan, LUFC forever, says we’re up against our bogey team away. It’s a tough game as every game is in the Championship. It sounds like you. But I reckon a tight 1-0 win to Leeds. Cardiff have lost just 4 of the last 24 league games against Leeds this century and have scored 16 goals across the last 7 meetings between these sides. They are very much Leeds as a side. What’s the score?

David: Well, Cardiff in a massive, are they? Given the fact that they sit bottom, which is solitary point. Leads that poor defending that opened up the whole of the pitch for Koleosho against Burnley. You’d like to think it would write that. I’m gonna go then to win on the road here. It’s a trip and a half, but I think they come back with all three points.

David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-0 Leeds

Coventry City v Swansea City

Simeon: Coventry failed to win any of their last 17 league games against Swansea since the 3 one win over the Welsh side back in October 1981. What’s the score going to be at the CBS Arena? What’s this one?

David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1

Luton v Sheffield Wednesday

Simeon: Sheffield Wednesday have failed to win any of the last 8 or 8 league games against Luton since a 1 nil victory of the Hatters back in March 1989. What’s the score going to be at Kenny?

David: Luton turned a corner, I think, against the Wednesday side that can be inconsistent.

David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Luton

Sheffield United v Derby County

Simeon: Sheffield United have won each of the last 3 home league games against Derby and will be looking to win 4 in succession for the first time since October 1946. What’s the score going to be?

David: This is a tough one, miss. Because, given the form that Derby are in, I’m gonna go.

David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Sheffield United

West Brom v Plymouth

Simeon: Our our West Brom fan Mick says it’s been a near perfect start to the season. We’ve been efficient at both ends of the pitch. I’m hoping we can keep the momentum going with another 3 points. Plymouth are not to be underestimated. I’m expecting a tough low scoring game, and he’s won a 1-0 West Brom win. Our Argyle, Ross says, having knocked one team off top spot, we now face the new leaders away. I didn’t expect a result against Sunderland, and arguably a victory at the Hawthorne seems even more unlikely, but I’ll stay positive in both a 1-1 draw. West Brom are unbeaten across their last 8 league games against Plymouth scoring 2 plus goals in 6 of those matches. What’s the score going to be at the Hawthorns?

David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-0 West Brom
