WEST BROM v LEICESTER
Simeon: West Brom are coming off the back of two defeats in a row. Back-to-back defeats, as they have come to be known. Leicester off the back of back-to-back draws. Neither side in the best of form going into this game at the Hawthorns, Pratts.
David: We spoken at length about the two, even though we’re only, a couple months into the season. We did the, Leicester Coventry game, didn’t we? Which, not the best. We had Tony Mowbray and thank God we did ’cause then we could speak to him about stuff rather than the actual game. ‘Cause there’s nothing going on in that game at all. And as you say, with West Brom, given the early season signs of what Ryan wanted to do, it’s, I’m not saying it’s a sticky patch. Couple, couple of games, as you say, it’s a good test of his early managerial capabilities, but undoubtedly two of the bigger guns in the division.
Simeon: Bigger guns but not really firing these guns so far.
David: I will give you the metaphor, you carry on the metaphor.
Simeon: Not many goals between these two, at either end of the pitch really in games featuring last season. This season. West Brom, I mean, they scored against Middlesbrough but they didn’t look like scoring for about 94 minutes until they did. And Leicester goals, unless it’s a Fito wonder goal or a Ricardo Pereira, I think they’ve pretty much scored all their goals this season. It doesn’t really look like happening for them. Cause for concern? Are you concerned about either of these two teams’ lack of goals? You look concerned.
David: No, I mean, I mean you’ve got obviously Leicester sat there nicely in fourth. It’s, it’s something for them to work on. And West Brom just outside on goal difference, so it’s not… I mean, six games in, should we go sensationalist in saying it was… it’s a must… it’s a six-pointer? Let’s not. That would be crazy. But, it’d help the numbers though, wouldn’t it? But the… no, it… there’s enough attacking intent and quality in both sides to be able to duke it out at the top end of the Championship. So yeah, I’d, maybe ’cause sometimes, I’m surprisingly optimistic about these situations. It’s works in progress. There’s many of those that we could chuck into that as well. I’m sure we’ll get onto those in due course. Couple of surprise packages at the top, but the rest of it kind of is filtering down as we thought.
Simeon: Leicester have six wins and a draw in their last seven games against West Brom. West Brom haven’t beaten Leicester at the Hawthorns since 2010.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-2

COVENTRY v BIRMINGHAM
Simeon: Coventry, goalless draw last time out against Leicester, which wasn’t a game worth talking about any more than we have to. Birmingham, big late win against Swansea last week to bounce back from back-to-back defeats. Of course, that late Lyndon Dyche’s goal to seal their win and their return to winning ways again. Not really a lot of goals in Birmingham games this season. Lots of goals in Coventry games. Bizarrely, Coventry, 22 goals in their games this season, but two goalless draws in six as well. But this should be a fun one, hopefully. Something has to be more fun than what we saw with Coventry and Leicester last week, anyway, so.
David: Yeah. I mean, something has to give. I think in the first half I thought Coventry looked relatively,, relatively comfortable, as well they should be against a Leicester side that had chances but didn’t necessarily overtly test the goalkeeper. Saying that, the goalkeeper did get Player of the Match, but I think that’s because we were struggling to find anyone else. Birmingham City is quite right that they put those, defeats behind them. And I think, I mean, given the scenes that we saw with those late goal, that late action was fantastic. So, no, this is, this is another good test of two teams that… Coventry, I think they’re just a marginally further along in where they wanna be this season. Birmingham City, there’s a lot of presumption that they would blast their way through, almost like an Ipswich, but not as yet. Uh, and that’s not to say that anything’s lost by this regard. Currently eighth, again, another team outside the top six on goal difference alone. Yeah, I think it’s gonna be another close one.
Simeon: Well, be quite fitting as well that Coventry host their former landlords at a time when they do actually own their own stadium now. It will show how far the club has come. Regardless of what happens this season, it does put into perspective the fact they might have drawn a couple too many games this season than they would have liked. But they’re still unbeaten, just two teams left unbeaten in the league now. Middlesbrough and Coventry City. But Middlesbrough have won five games, Coventry have won two. Birmingham have failed to win any of their last six away games at Coventry, which also does actually include a game at St. Andrew’s. Their last away win at any Coventry ground that was an actual Coventry ground was in October 2006.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1

SWANSEA v MILLWALL
Simeon: Onwards now to Swansea City versus Millwall. Swansea suffered that late defeat at Birmingham last time out, we’ve just talked about. That was their first defeat since opening day. Millwall beat Watford on Monday night, their first points at home all season. Now they’re back on the road. Between two sides here who should have an outside shake possibility for the playoffs this season, perhaps. Two teams who you’d expect to be…
David: Well, I mean, given how close Millwall weren’t, I think given how close they weren’t end of last season, they’d be, they’d have aspirations of doing at least that again. And Swansea, I think, are a great, progressive football club on and off the pitch with Alan Sheehan in charge. So, it was important that they got those points at home. The irony being, as you pointed out last week about how The Den comes across, um, from an intimidation point of view. But they were the first ones that they’ve got at home. So back on the road again, you’d like to think that they would be pretty positive about going down to Swansea.
Simeon: Millwall have won their last three meetings with Swansea by a 1-0 scoreline.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Millwall win

WREXHAM v DERBY
Simeon: Wrexham, important win at Norwich last time out. 3-2. Still just a point at home in three games so far this season. Won in the cup as well in midweek to … I feel strange to say ease the pressure on a man who’s won three promotions in a row, but that’s where we are with football now, isn’t it?
David: Yeah. Bit of chat on it, ain’t they? And, and Parky will know about as much as anyone he’s there to be talked about.
Simeon: Yeah. Derby start the weekend in the bottom three. Just one win all season.
David: Yeah. Strange, that.
Simeon: Beaten at home by Preston last time out. Not really the start we’re expecting from Derby. Not really the start we’re expecting from either of these two warhorses.
David: Again, I mean, presumption that because of the size of Wrexham and what they did in, in League One it’d be exactly the same, but no, I, I’m more surprised with Derby to be honest, given obviously back end of last season. But then it… last season was a salvage job, wasn’t it? So maybe we’re seeing where Derby County exists right now being back in the Championship, for a few seasons now. I’m not saying it just should be about consolidation, but there’s certainly… John will be extremely, wary given how strong they were defensively at the back end of this season and how poorest have looked. He’ll be raging as much as anyone else that, that that’s the position they find themselves in.
Simeon: Wrexham have not beaten Derby at home since 1955, 70 years. Although they haven’t actually met in the league in 43 years and they’ve only ever played each other nine times ever. So this is not a regularly battled out fixture in Football League terms. Playing on any of the players’ minds, that one, Prats? Playing on Ryan Reynolds’ mind?
David: Yeah, definitely.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Wrexham win
CHARLTON v BLACKBURN
Simeon: Good win for them that win at Sheff Utd last time out, pooping the Chris Wilder party. Blackburn, they’re thought to beat Ipswich. I don’t know if they have at this point. As we record, I still don’t know if they have beaten Ipswich or not. But as it stands, we’ll just have to see what happens with that. What’s the score going to be at The Valley?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Charlton win
IPSWICH v PORTSMOUTH
Simeon: Ipswich we’ve just discussed. Portsmouth were beaten 2-0 at home by Sheffield Wednesday on the Saturday. Not a good result for them. What’s the score going to be at Portman Road?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Ipswich win
OXFORD v SHEFFIELD UNITED
Simeon: Oxford got their first win of the season last Sunday. They won 3-1 at Bristol City. Sheffield United, I mean, it’s not, everyone knows what’s going on with them. Still without a point this season. Scored one goal all season.
David: It’s awful, ain’t it? The upswing’s gotta come soon, but I think given what Gary would love about facing Chris Wilder, I think this is gonna be a draw.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1 draw
PRESTON v BRISTOL CITY
Simeon: Preston ticking along nicely
David: High flyers, these two. Preston very good at home against these types of team.
Simeon: High-flying Preston. Won 1-0 at Derby last Saturday. Bristol City’s unbeaten start did come to an end last week at home to Oxford.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Preston win
SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY v QPR
Simeon: Sheffield Wednesday won at Portsmouth, their first of the season. Lifted them from 23rd to 23rd. QPR, three wins on the bounce now. They are rising high. The most important thing for Wednesday is they’re four points clear of Sheffield United.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1 draw
SOUTHAMPTON v MIDDLESBROUGH
Simeon: Southampton no win since opening day. Beaten quite comprehensively by Hull City last time out as well. Middlesbrough, top of the league and still unbeaten. Five wins and a draw thus far. Southampton as well, of course, lost at Liverpool in the Cup on Tuesday night. No shame in that. And quite a good performance as well o be fair. But still they lost.
David: It was superb. And they hit the, hit the bar, didn’t they, before it, before any goals went in.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-2 draw
STOKE v NORWICH
Simeon: Stoke lost at QPR. Norwich lost at home to Wrexham. Both teams need to bounce back. What’s the score going to be at the Bet365?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Stoke win
WATFORD v HULL
Simeon: Watford have lost their last two games one-nil. Hull, good win against Southampton last time out. What’s the score going to be at Vicarage Road?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Hull win
