Wrexham respond after Billy Sharp speaks on his beef with their fans, players and manager Phil Parkinson, reigniting the feud.

It all started four years ago, with Sharp laying into Wrexham in a post match interview after the Blades beat them in an FA Cup fourth round replay.

Ben Tozer and Phil Parkinson then slammed Sharp over the ‘disrespectful’ interview and it continued to play out, before going quiet, until now.

Billy Sharp said while on BBC 5 Live Sport this week: “Never really got invited to be on the documentary though which I was bit disappointed with. Just had Ben Tozer talking a load of nonsense. They were picking on one of our young lads, Daniel Jebbison at the time. Not sure why, he’s six foot four and he’s an absolute unit.

“They nearly knocked us out. We got the replay, John Egan scored late doors. And then there was all a bit of thing about this celebration which riled us a little bit going into the second leg.

“And then just the way some of their players were disrespecting my teammates, I was captain at Sheffield United at the time and Ollie Norwood came on and some of the comments that I was hearing from some of their players.

“One of the comments actually came true. He did give a penalty away off the ball. He’s, you know, he’s not as good off the ball as he is on the ball. Our keeper saves Paul Mullins penalty and I managed to score and we won the game, knocked them out and a few things happened on the pitch.

“After the game, Phil Parkinson thought I was trying to wind the Wrexham fans up, which he doesn’t know that Sheffield United do it. Ben will back me up on this. God knows why, but the families are sat right near the away fans. And when you go over after the game, I do it every time. Win, lose or draw, go over. Show that I’m thankful for them being there.

“Wrexham were throwing coins at me and stuff like that. And I’ve always had a bit of a thing that, you know, if they give me something, I give them back. Gave a little bit of a tear sign and Parkinson’s pushing me saying, what are you doing blah, blah, blah.

“And I was long story short, all went off. When I landed in LA, when I signed for LA Galaxy, the first things I seen was the biggest billboard, Welcome to Wrexham. I just started laughing to myself, no, everything from my side. I wanted to get through the FA Cup and get beat by a man sitting in the semi-final at Wembley, 3-0. So they probably had the last laugh.”

Wrexham bit back, captioning their post: “Probably lost my head a little bit.” 🎻

They shared a video of Billy Sharp talking after Sheffield United’s game against Wrexham, in which he said at the time:

“I think they’ve been disrespectful though, few things before the game, thinking it was already through. I wasn’t happy with a of their players tonight. They’d been as a club before the game, eyeing up Spurs, didn’t even beat us.

“I think the referee was helping them all night as well. I don’t think they me one foul all night tonight, probably lost my head a little bit.”
