Crystal Palace disrupt Jurgen Klopp’s interview with music and Andy Robertson calls out his fellow Liverpool teammates.
Jurgen Klopp had a face like thunder as his post-match interview after Liverpool’s shock home defeat against Crystal Palace was drowned out by the visitors’ celebrations in the dressing room.
You can see just how much it’s all getting to him during his interview with Sky Sports after Eberechi Eze’s first-half goal was enough for Palace to secure all three points and deal Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes a huge blow in Klopp’s farewell weeks, as he gets set to step down when the season finishes.
Liverpool were lucky to not have conceded more with Andy Robertson managing Jean-Philippe Mateta’s goal-bound effort off the line as Palace opened up the Reds defence.
But come full time, Liverpool wasted so many chances, to end a dreadful week in which they also lost 3-0 to Atalanta in the Europa League on Thursday.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to BBC’s Match of the Day: “The stats in the first half won’t be as great as the stats in the second half. I think that was pretty obvious we didn’t play a good first half. We wanted a reaction and we saw a reaction.
“It wasn’t a fully convinced team on the pitch. It’s a really difficult one. We weren’t great. Crystal Palace had far too many football moments where we ran in the wrong direction.
“In more than 20 years when you watch my teams, the press and counter press is pretty good, some days it is outstanding. In the first half, it was nothing and then we were 1-0 down.
“Second half, we tried to change the formation and dynamic that wasn’t tricky for Crystal Palace. You could stand here on another day and see the same balls go in and we’re talking about a 4-1 win, but football doesn’t work like that.”
Klopp to Sky Sports on whether his side are suffering from a hangover to their 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League: “Could be. If you would look to my teams over the years, I think you could say our pressing is usually good. Counterpress is there. The first half we were open like ‘how can that happen?’ Curtis [Jones] was the only one really chasing, really getting out and from time to time broke their rhythm. Beisde that they [Palace] could just play through. They [Liverpool] were horrible to watch.
“Was this a hangover? Yes. That’s how humans react sometimes. It’s not great but it happens. The conviction wasn’t there. We were much too far apart from each other. Last line too deep, the midfield wasn’t really there, first line didn’t start the press. So that’s all true.
“Where it’s coming from? How can I answer that one 100%? But it’s only a few days ago that we played a bad game so it might have something to do with that. Actually it was a really good game, without scoring. But it’s not that easy unfortunately.”
Klopp to Sky Sports on where it went wrong for his side against Palace: “I am standing here and to talk about this game is really tricky. Two different games I would say, with the first half and second half. First half was absolutely not good enough so we showed a reaction. The reaction was we lost conviction from the last game. We tried to get rid of this but that work out as much as we wanted.
“To concede that goal was a horrible goal to concede with a completely free player in the area. That cannot happen but it happens. Andy Robertson gets the other ball so it’s like scoring a goal if you don’t concede from that. Crystal Palace didn’t have many more and we controlled it better and then second half we can easily say if we don’t score with these chances what can you say?
“The game in the second half was much better, Trent coming on and in the moment the structure changed. We caused problems and we had big big chances. If we stand here and win the game 4-1 we could have seen the same game with a completely different result. But we didn’t so we have to take that.”
Klopp to Sky Sports on his side’s missed chances: “We had bigger chances than Curtis Jones’ chance. We have the Darwin [Nunez] chance. He hits the ball full throttle – if he miss-hits it slightly there’s no chance for the goalkeeper. Similar with Diogo Jota. Mohamed Salah’s chance, it hits the Palace player on the line. That’s just horrendous, but we didn’t score there.
“We had other moments and are only really talking about the massive chances. That’s how it is. We feel really rubbish and need now a bit of time to process that. It’s a really bad moment. It’s the second home game in a row we lose and we are not used to that. We have to see how we react on that. We have to work on that. We will do that, of course. But I cannot say now that’s the starting point for the rest of the season. It doesn’t feel like it at this moment.”
“We were poor”

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson to Sky Sports on why the Reds have been so wasteful recently: “It’s been the story of the last few games and that’s why we have been punished in these games. We are struggling to keep clean sheets right now. I don’t know how many we have had in the last 10 or 15 games but it won’t be many. When you do that you have to take chances. As simple as that.
“The boys in front of goal have to do better. But the boys at the back, as defensive unit as a whole, we have to do better. Which isn’t great thing for success So frustrating today. So many chances. First half I thought we were poor and they were in top and could have been more than 1-0 up. Second half we had enough chances to win two or three games.”
Robertson to Sky Sports on where the team’s drop off in form has come from: “It’s only really been lately. We’ve not been as clinical in front of goal since we came back from international duty. Which when you are going for titles and trophies is not a great thing to have. We are obviously off the boil in front of goal. No goals at Anfield is very rare and we have punished for it which at this stage of the season you cannot really do.
“Now obviously the teams about us will win games. But today is done and there’s a lot of regrets in the dressing room which we didn’t want. We have to move on and that’s the only thing all we can do now.”
On why there wasn’t a response to the Atalanta defeat: “I’m not sure. The crowd were anxious today, and rightly so the way we were passing the ball, giving it away and giving chances. Maybe we reacted to that. Maybe players who aren’t as experienced at being in a title race.
“But we’re all quality players and that’s why you are at Liverpool and you have to deal with that pressure. Second half we were better but we didn’t take them. All the strikers had a chance and if you don’t take them you get punished.”
Robertson to Sky Sports on where their defeat to Palace leaves them in the Premier League title race: “We’re third and now we have to chase. Then when games run out with six games left it’s not a great position to be in. We will keep fighting, keep going to the end, and let’s see where it gets us. The two teams around us are playing fantastically well at the moment and we are not in the greatest moments.
“I think we are always still in it. We are still there. If Arsenal win they are three clear, and Man City two. We were in a strong position this time last week, we were the leaders and they were chasing us, and now to be third is very frustrating. With six games to go we will give it everything we have got. The problem is there’s two world class team doing it as well and that’s the difficult part.
“We have to keep going, trying to win every game. We cannot afford to slip up now. We need six wins and if we get that then let’s see where we end up. It’s not the ideal position to be in that’s for sure.”

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner to BBC’s Match of the Day: “It’s an outstanding win at Anfield, it’s so difficult to win here. How they played, especially in the first half, is so nice to see. In the second half, there was a lot of pressure from Liverpool. Congratulations to the team on this performance today.
On playing with their own identity: “It’s what we always talk about. Tomorrow we can say we did it our way, you can always lose here, but it’s about being able to express yourself and play with confidence. We cleared many situations under pressure with one/two touch. We scored an amazing goal. it’s about confidence, team spirit, passion.
On making 21 passes in the build-up to the goal: “I thought it was a maximum 15 so again, applause to the team. It’s always easy before a game to say pass here and here on the screen. There was good runs in the box, you get space in the cut backs, it was a nice goal.
Do you have an understanding of what you’re trying to do?: “The clear picture I had before, but it’s always being able to adapt and fit to the players. I wouldn’t tell a player to sing if they can’t sing, if someone asked me to sing it would be terrible. It’s still on the way, the first half was excellent, in the second half we can do better, but the passion and the spirit was there today.
Glasner to Sky Sports on his side’s defensive display: “Our first half was really brilliant on how we played, how we defended also, the confidence we had in possession and the goal we scored was really amazing here at Anfield. I think what was perfect was our patience, desire and spirit. Second half there was so much pressure from Liverpool and the players defended with every single cell in their bodies. We got the rewards.
“We need everybody performing at their best level and not just the outfield players. We had an outstanding goalkeeper, but we had players like Jordan Ayew blocking. We defended as a team which is what you need to keep a clean sheet here. It was a great afternoon for us.”
Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson to BBC’s Match of the Day: “100%. Coming to places like this, you know you’re going to be busy. I’m delighted to be back this time around, it’s a team effort, I’m delighted.
“The amount of blocks, passes across, blocks. They made save after save for me, I had to make saves as well.
“I felt like I was out there for about a year, we rode our luck at times but I’m delighted.
“I think the lads believed we could do something today on the coach today, the pressure was on them. If we play our stuff and once bodies come back, with what the manager has got us doing, we will be playing good stuff.
“I feel good this time around, I feel fit and I’ve got a smile on my face.”
