Chelsea starboy Cole Palmer scores a 16 minute perfect hat-trick against Everton in Monday night’s Premier League fixture.
His scoring spree started just 13 minutes in, Palmer initially nutmegged Branthwaite, before striding past. Onana closed in, but he then Palmer backheeled the ball to Jackson, who slid but enough to rebound the ball back to Palmer, who then curled past Pickford.
It was two for Palmer inside the opening 20 minutes as Mudryk was fed down the left of the area, a cutback found Jackson, his shot was well saved by Pickford – but Palmer nodded the loose ball into an open net.
Then on 29 minutes, Pickford saw his pass from the back – intended for Onana – not get anywhere near as Palmer got on it and spotted the open goal, chipped the ball over Pickford and into the back of the net.
@skysports A PERFECT hat-trick in just 16 minutes and five seconds for Cole Palmer! š„¶š®āšØ #chelsea #everton #premierleague #colepalmer #goal ā¬ original sound – Sky Sports
Sky Sports’ Alan Smith at Stamford Bridge: “If there is a player you don’t won’t to give a chance in that position, it’s Cole Palmer.
“He is playing with such confidence. He is bossing it out there.”
Sky Sports’ Peter Smith at Stamford Bridge: “A hat-trick inside half an hour to follow on from his hat-trick (and late match-winning double) here last time out at Stamford Bridge against Man Utd! Incredible!
“Everything the boy touches turns to gold right now – and the Chelsea fans can’t get enough of him!”
Alan Smith: “Mauricio Pochettino wouldn’t have expected this in his wildest dreams.
“He would have been expecting a tough game against Everton.”
On 35 minutes, Everton got one in the back of the net, but it was ruled out for offside as Beto headed home.
Everton striker Beto headed in just before the break but it was ruled out for offside before he met Ashley Young’s right-wing cross.
Then Chelsea made it 4-0 just after that. Marc Cucurella ran down the left and did well to keep the ball in play and crossed for Nicolas Jackson, who controlled the ball, swivelled and volleyed home.
Sky Sports’ Peter Smith at Stamford Bridge: “It’s another lovely goal from Chelsea’s point of view. Palmer is involved, of course, but this is all about the touch, swivel and shot from Jackson. Some way to bring up his 10th Premier League goal!
“Dyche looks on wondering just what has happened in the past 45 minutes…”
Sky Sports’ Alan Smith at Stamford Bridge: “What does Sean Dyche say in that Everton dressing room at half time?
“The list is endless.
“What could have gone wrong has gone wrong!”
Sky Sports’ Bill Leslie at Stamford Bridge: “The best 45 minutes of football from Chelsea at Stamford Bridge so far this season.
“The sparkling Cole Palmer has been at the heart of it.”
Cole Palmer is the first Chelsea player to score a ‘perfect’ hat-trick in the Premier League (left foot, right foot, head) since Christian Pulisic against Burnley in October 2019.
Cole Palmer has scored the quickest ever hat-trick for Chelsea in the Premier League (29 minutes).
Cole Palmer’s hat-trick today was the sixth-fastest in Premier League history.
Cole Palmer has scored 22 goals for Chelsea in all competitions, the most for the Blues in a single season since Diego Costa’s 22 in 2016-17.
Cole Palmer scored the fastest perfect hat-trick in the Premier League since Gracenote has this data (since 2008-09).
Cole Palmer made it 5-0 on 64 minutes, scoring from the spot, the penalty awarded after Palmer said he was fouled, and then Noni Madueke said he was. There was some argy bargy over who would take it, Palmer was adamant it would be him.
It was confirmed that Cole Palmer won that penalty, with Abdoulaye Doucoure pulling him back. It hadn’t been initially clear which one of two tackles was penalised.
Cole Palmer is the first Chelsea player to score four goals in a Premier League game since Frank Lampard against Aston Villa in March 2010.
Cole Palmer is now the joint top scorer in the Premier League this season with 20 goals, level with Erling Haaland.
Alfie Gilchrist, 20, then came off the bench on 89 minutes and made instant impact by scoring his first goal for his boyhood club.
Everton boss Sean Dyche to BBC Sport:Ā “Really poor. Miles off the intent and desire to win a match. You have to give strength, put a tackle in. I thought we were mildly better second half but the first half miles off.
“Collective down day. We had one at Villa when we’re collectively looking for a spark.
“You can’t give away soft goals like that. They’re dancing around us.
“Not just the back five, young lads in midfield. They’ll learn if you don’t get tackles in and read the play you’ll get hurt.
“I’m not going to hide behind that [Beto miss] although it does change the game. Too many errors. Too many players way off the mark.
“Six big games. They’ve had another knock. We’ve already agreed that’s gone, we have to get on with it. It [points deduction] is out of our control.
“We created 10 chances away from home. They had 14.
“We can’t perform like that at a place like this. The key moments when they got chances, finding the back of the net, we haven’t done that all season.”
On discovering the appeal will be heard before the end of the season: “It’s a relief to football, not just to us. We’re all scratching our heads anyway but that would have made it worse.”
Everton boss Sean Dyche, speaking to Sky Sports:Ā “Ugly night collectively, a dire night.
“Perfect storm that every mistake got punished. The start of the game was spot on and we went after them, there is a strange feeling around Chelsea, could we step on them? We missed a chance straight away.
“People learning and young players learning about football, but you have to get your tackles in, but it was miles off collectively ā mildly better in second half.
“The basics you have got to do the basics and you have got to recover.
“Chelsea have good players they play round you and you have to recover.
“We were miles away from it tonight, nothing to do with anyone else. We have taken a knock; does it leak into the players? Maybe.
“When it is collectively and miles away you are looking for a shining light and looking at doing the basics well. Chelsea have spent a lot of money on quality and they showed it tonight, but you cannot give up chances like that.
“We know we are not scoring near enough the goals that we need to, but defensively we have been solid so it is unusual for that to happen.
“Yes there are all nervous games. Our fans have been terrific and you would wouldnāt you [leave early]. We have to pay that support back. We cannot feel sorry for ourselves and we have to get on with business.”
On the point deduction affecting players:Ā “It has to be parked.
“Professional that is what it says on your passport, now the professional bit kicks in.
“We have to do everything we can do to look after ourselves.”
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino to BBC Sport:Ā “We were very clinical in front of goal. I’m happy. A clean sheet.”
On whether he expected Cole Palmer to score so many goals: “No. You expect him to perform well but he’s performing fantastic and doing amazing for the team. I’m happy for him scoring four goals.”
On the penalty argument: “It’s a shame. It’s a process for a young team who need to learn a lot. I was talking about this to the player after the game. It’s the last time I want to see something like this. I want to apologise to the fans.
“We need to make clear next time that happens. They need to learn and be professional. We need to be focused on the collective. They knew it was Cole. Cole is the taker. It’s a clear example that it’s a process we still need to learn.”
Chelsea player of the match Cole Palmer, speaking to Sky Sports:Ā “It all happens so fast. We started well and I scored another hat-trick – buzzing. The team needed that after Sunday, but we did well tonight.
“First one was my favourite, my right foot was a bit of a swinger.
“Everyone was buzzing for Alfie Gilchrist. He has been a Chelsea fan all his life and everyone is buzzing for him.
“After the previous game we needed to come out and show something. It was a good performance tonight.”
On players arguing over taking the penalty: “Other players wanted to take it, but I am the penalty taker and I wanted to take it.
“I think we are showing everyone is wanting to take responsibility it may be a bit over the top, but everyone wants to win ā we are laughing and joking about it.
“This season we have been a bit inconsistent. We have had some poor performances and we have got some good wins. We will take each game as it comes and see where we finish.”
This is how fans reacted on Twitter as Chelsea starboy Cole Palmer scores a 16 minute perfect hat-trick against Everton
@UberChelseaFC_: Cole Palmer. You are absolutely ridiculous. The greatest first season I have EVER seen by a Chelsea player. Wow.
@JudeChels: Genuinely lost for words with Cole Palmer. Best attacker weāve had since Hazard, what a player š
@MightyMillers20: England’s number 1 btw š¤£š¤£
@agbnufc_: Pickford is a clown that’s what happened.
@Jai_Mcintosh: It is mind blowing that Cole Palmer has more PL goals than Salah in what has been a hugely disappointing Chelsea team this season. He’s genuinely a top 5 young player itw right now.
@FarvaRangers: Mad how good this kid is and Gareth Southgate will give him about 8 minutes of football at the Euros.
@PursuitOfTruthB: Palmer has been a sensational signing. Has to be in the England euros squad. I donāt know how close we came to signing him. But itās a hell of a what-could-have-been for Brighton. What a player he is #PremierLeague #ColePalmer
@OllieElphick19: What a fucking goal for his hattrick, we would be lost without this man. Have my kids Cole
@jpalmsx: Starts ahead of Saka for me in the England team at Euros, much more clinical in front of goal and can float across that front line. Probably wonāt start limping and ask to come off if he drops a stinker too
@thejonnyross: Absolutely ridiculous. Palmer > Rashford
@Layla_Louiseee: What a goal, Cole Palmer has to be one of the best players in England right now. Side note: how the hell is Pickford Englands number 1…
@JJLozzer: Yet if he’s on the plane to the Euros Southgate will play Henderson over him
@karanmufc87: Seriously, Cole Palmer is ridiculous. What a talent Chelsea have here!
Blows my mind Jackson and Madueke wanted to take the ball off Palmer in this positionā¦ pic.twitter.com/sfAl50cSKs
