Chester FC have been left disappointed after ‘a minority of supporters’ caused damage to the toilets at Alfreton Town on Saturday.
The Blues have since issued an apology for the damage and offered to cover the repair costs in full, something that could have been prevented.
The incident – which came as Chester drew 2-2 in the season opener, with Alfreton coming back from two goals down and snatching a late equaliser – means dipping into funds allocated for a particular purpose for the benefit of the fan-owned club.
Unbelievable support yesterday. 👏#OurClub 🟡⚫️ #ALFCFC pic.twitter.com/14GfXNZG6o

Chester FC is deeply disappointed in the actions of a minority of supporters during Saturday’s game at Alfreton Town, who damaged the toilets within the away section of the Impact Arena.
Our travelling support is among the best in non-league football and your passionate, vocal backing is greatly appreciated by the players, staff and club officials.
The overwhelming majority of our fans behave impeccably, however, incidents of anti-social and criminal behaviour such as those committed at Alfreton blemish the reputation of our club and supporters.
We have apologised to Alfreton for the damage and offered to cover the costs of the repairs in full. This unexpected outlay now means these funds will not be available to be used for the benefit of our club.
From the start of the 2022/23 season, new measures and stronger sanctions have been introduced across the game to tackle anti-social and criminal behaviours.
As a community-owned, family club, Chester FC fully supports these new actions, which target activity such as entering the pitch without permission, the use of smoke bombs or pyrotechnics, throwing objects and other unacceptable behaviour that has no place in football.
We do not want any of our supporters to be issued with club bans or prosecuted and left with a criminal record, but these are the risks for those who choose to commit offences or behave in a manner that is not welcome at our club. We urge you to think before you act.
We are committed to ensuring that attending Chester FC matches is a safe, inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone and will not tolerate any behaviour that undermines this or damages the good name of our club.
Alfreton 2-2 Chester. Threw away a two goal lead but can’t deny the hosts deserved a last gasp point from their typically robust, physical approach and anti-football long throw tactics. Super friendly stewards though. A genuinely lovely bunch. pic.twitter.com/5OUHruoZDh

It comes following a number of incidents seen across non league at the weekend, take a look at the following stories that left fans dismayed.
Machete gang in balaclavas invade pitch to stab footballer during match
Bus windows smashed at Blyth v Kidderminster and Tamworth v Ilkeston
Macclesfield issue statement after fighting breaks out in stand with match forced to halt
Twitter users reacted as Chester say they are left disappointed as a minority of supporters caused damage at Alfreton…
@AshleyH90433816: Madness that we are sabotaging the budget that the fans built they started by leaving the taps on, just senseless and embarrassing
@TomCFC87: Always a few children who can’t handle their Ribena. Embarrassments to our club.
@MichelleKClarke: Start as you mean to go on & punish them. Nothing will stop with until you do!
@steved14: Calling them fans is taking ownership that is both good and bad . If found the people in question should pay
@prime1959: I spoke to one of the girls in our away food outlet and said at one point got really scared at the way some of your fans spoke to them
@prog_head: I was there am didn’t see this but have no doubt it is true. Sadly at every Chester away game there us a group of cretins who think they are bona fide football hooligans. It is utterly pathetic and once against has cost the club.
@RussJon94660033: I was there on Saturday and noticed a bunch of pissed up kids do they think damaging toilets and our reputation is hard or clever – If you want to be a hooligan arrange some one to one fight away from the ground mmm doubt it This also happened at Colwyn Bay Absolute Helmets
@DaveJon57515832; Chester fans taking shithousery to another level – literally
@darlo_will; Club full of wrongens, been obvious over the past season or two.
@shroppylad: They say they don’t want supporters to be banned or have criminal records but by not acting Chester FC continue to be complicit in this behaviour . Chester Fc management needs to get a grip of their responsibilities and act now to get these idiots out of match day football.
@NormanLeah2: Nice response from Chester. I was stewarding at the away end all match and had fantastic banter with your fan’s who looked forward to welcoming us again in the return fixture. Not 1 fan caused us a problem. Shame about the idiots 😕
@smithpchef: Young boys two Stella’s deep and think they are Mike Tyson
@chesterfc1960: I see this anti social behaviour too often, especially at more local games like Telford and Kiddy. Alcohol is the issue and clubs have to get to grips with pissed up kids. It needs stamping down by all clubs and they should be turned away at the gate
@JohnDeva923: Something needs to be done about the “kids” behind the Harry Mac goal, every match they are throwing things at the oppo keepers. Stewards just stand and watch. Sadly we have always had a following who like smashing things up, I guess sinks don’t punch and kick back 🙄
@AshleyH90433816: To be fair the majority of the fans in the Harry Mac have a word and it calms down normally 13, 14 year olds showing off
@shauneport: Everyone knows who they are
@Odyssey_Extra: As someone who is behind the Harry Mac a lot I don’t mind chants and banter, that’s fine! But when it comes to throwing stuff, damaging other clubs facilities then it’s truly too far and those who do those acts should be banned, end of story. Those involved should be disgusted.
@waynebradwayne: The vast majority of the travelling fans of @ChesterFC are a credit to their club 👏 Saddened by the actions of a minority who attended @AlfretonTownFC, but impressed by the clubs stance & actions. I applaud & wish you the very best for the rest of the season…… thank you
These jokers have got previous. Don’t be surprised. 🤡https://t.co/NgfTrapOsh https://t.co/BRQdKVNTGz pic.twitter.com/9wHWaWyj8j
