Birmingham fans hit back at social media users taking the mick out of chairman Tom Wagner

Birmingham City fans hit back at social media users taking the mick out of Blues chairman Tom Wagner as footage surfaced online.

He was in the stands for Birmingham’s huge 3-0 victory over playoff chasing Coventry to ease relegation fears on Saturday afternoon.

A Bobby Thomas own goal, with Ivan Sunjic and Jay Stansfield also getting on the scoresheet, steered the club Blues an important three points.

This result was their biggest win since October – and only their second success in 11 – and saw them climb out of the relegation zone after Bristol City denied struggling Huddersfield with a last-gasp and controversial leveller.

Footage was posted on Twitter of chairman Tom Wagner getting the crowd fired up ahead of the game. But it seems he has caused a stir in just showing some passion.

@HITCSevens saw this and tweeted: “I am, once again, asking Americans, if they must buy our football clubs, please respect our culture and be a bit less cringe.”

@Gurnery_ also wrote: “Didn’t he sack eustace, bring in rooney and has sent them spiralling on a course to league 1? Mental behaviour.”

As mentioned, Birmingham fans hit back at social media users taking the mick out of chairman Tom Wagner, here’s what is being said…

@Glassinho: Americans in English football always makes me laugh. Take your cringe nonsense back across the pond please mate.

@david_1980_EFC: I don’t get all the hate. I can’t wait as an Evertonian to see the main team from Birmingham back in the big time.

@Darb1875: We’re In safe hands with Tommy Wagner in charge. If some of the players showed 10% of his dedication and love to the club we’d be pushing play offs. Even if we go down we’re lucky to have him

@muzzavilla: I feel embarrassed for them 🤢

@Canute60: I just love all the haters posting on here and putting money into the club by doing so. Thanks all šŸ’µšŸ˜Ž

@CBMullins83: I adore this man, his positivity is infectious, what he has done off the field in such a short time is nothing short of a miracle, I thank him from the bottom of my heart for his commitment to #bcfc and we seen more of him in a week than 10 years of last lot! #kro #tomwagner

@_NathyAVFC: Fight and win!!

@EDKINSEd: Bloody love him šŸ’™

@Adamsbcfc: Do a video on blues over the past decade alfie and then try and make fun of Tom Wagner. Might have saved our club

@HITCSevens: Both things can be true re done a good job so far & being a bit cringe.

@Adamsbcfc: ill take doing a few cringe video clips over being run by a gang of chinese criminals who pay for their netflix on the clubs credit card any day

@jaacknffc: New Ted Lasso looks shit

@B9STANDREWS: I keep pinching myself that after such a long time in the abyss we have people at the very top who not only care but have the heart, passion, resolve to dream even bigger than any of us ever dared to, but even more than that,have got the talent and resources to make it happen. #KRO

@AidanP93: Regardless of how much money this bloke is he genuinely cares and so down to earth. We are so lucky to have him, thanks for the beers again Tom šŸŗ #bcfc

@sportscardsdash: this has rattled so many people 🤣 imagine having an owner that’s passionate about the club after years of terrible owners it’s horrible yeah 🄓 #bcfc #kro

@Hopkins_CCFC: everyones just jealous of their ownership by now

@_RhysBCFC: All the interactions to this putting cash in Wagners pocket love it

@Ri62304Rickie: I love this man what a guy. #bcfc

@zdpj_: This is what we’ve asked for. Fuck what league we’re going to be in we’ve finally got an owner that gives a shit we will be back either way. Up the fucking Blues šŸ’™

@misslauralou: The house is falling to bits lad.

@teirauiriamu: American billionaire sends English football fanbase into meltdown by supporting the team he’s investing billions into

@past_sunderland: I hope these go down. The manufactured passion and wank fest is cringe as fuck. And the fact that they still think Jobe to us was a sideways move… #SAFC

@DanielBirkett_: English people getting offended over one American showing interest in the game and his club. Grow up

@Salop1977: If we do get taken over by Americans and ANYTHING remotely close to this happens I’ll be begging Roland to come back to #Salop

@AC_WWFC: I’d admit it’s cringe but much rather have this than some Chinese balding midget slumped in his chair for the whole game

@cultureforce1: My guys treating the Championship like a Monday night RAW episode

@maxx1875: Everyone hating is too old fashioned. Why would you want an owner who is private, silent and doesn’t show any love. He’s one of the few people in these last years who have gave the fans some hope. #BCFC #KRO

@lawrence_bury: With all due respect to Birmingham City, hope they get relegated

Blues interim boss Gary Rowett said post-match: “I think we have shown what we can do. We have shown the atmosphere at St. Andrew’s. We have spoken about that before and how powerful our fanbase are. I think that is five full houses and five wins, so if that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know, it certainly lifts the players, it lifts the intensity.

“It just felt like a really positive day, but it is a positive day because we have worked incredibly hard. The team, I have spoken before, have got a lot of talented players but that is nothing without a bit of hard work and desire, that feeling of having to prove yourself every game.

“That then brings out the quality and I think there were lots and lots of moments today that showed the quality of our players and the three goals epitomise that.

“We made a few changes, I felt it was probably the right time to freshen things up. The likes of Keshi, Tyler, Ivan came in and were absolutely immense. I am really pleased for those guys because it is a squad game and when players haven’t had that opportunity it hurts them, you can see it hurts them. They want to feel part of the group and you only do that by being on the pitch.

“But there are lots of other players, people like Gary Gardner. What I have got to say is, sometimes it is easy to mention the players on the pitch, but people like Gards, in the dressing room, on the touchline, he does everything right for the group. He absolutely desperately cares for this club. Those sorts of moments absolutely epitomise what the group should be about.”

Coventry manager Mark Robins said: ā€œWe were second best to everything. When they’re fighting for their lives at the bottom of the division, you know it’s going to be a difficult game.

When we’re trying to get into the play offs you expect a response, and we didn’t have enough of a response.

ā€œI thought we started ok, we had one or two decent openings when Milan had space down the right-hand side, just dragged his shots wide.

The way we think and the way we made mistakes from a tactical point of view, was foreign to me.

It looked to all intense and purposes that they were first and second to the ball and got first contact on things, there was nothing and I could have taken everyone off at half-time, it was a non-performance.

ā€œWe went a goal down to another own goal, but we didn’t get tight enough to the crosser allowing the cross to come in and were in poor positions.

We’re a goal down and their tails are up and then Haji has a chance to score and does everything right, but it just comes back off the crossbar and if that goes in then the mood changes in the stadium.

The moments didn’t come for us today and they end up getting a second, but we know we’re still in the game if we can change the momentum a bit, but we have to try and build that, and we didn’t give ourselves any chance to do it.

ā€œSecond half I made some changes, and it gave us a little bit of a lift and we ended up pinning them in for five or ten minutes and we looked like we could get something.

We didn’t get the crowd involved in the game at all which is a massive disappointment and it just felt really flat and that’s the concern and we need to get ourselves ready to go again.ā€

Asked if the FA Cup was a distraction…

ā€œIt surely can’t be. The way they’re going into tackles, you have to respond otherwise you’re going to get injured, and I thought we were second best.

It looked lethargic and it looks like that when you’re not thinking properly, we made some really strange decisions where we follow people into areas that isn’t their job and it opens things up for them.

It wasn’t what we needed, it was exactly what they wanted, and we played into their hands.

We didn’t work hard enough, and I think that’s the least we’ve run in a game and that’s not good enough.

I’m not looking for excuses, I’m looking for reasons for it but it’s going to take me some time to get through it because that performance wasn’t what we needed at this stage of the season or any stage.ā€
