The incident appeared to happen at junction 10 of the M65 approximately two miles away from the ground with police saying that it ’caused some damage to the bus as it hit the windscreen but luckily no one was injured.’

Supt Melita Worswick, of Lancashire Police, said in a statement: ‘This incident occurred when a great deal of traffic was leaving the area following the football match between Burnley and Aston Villa.
‘It is nothing but good fortune that the brick didn’t cause more damage, or result in somebody being seriously injured or even killed.
‘We cannot say at this point whether this was a targeted attack but enquiries are ongoing and this will form part of our investigation.
‘We are now determined to find the person or people responsible and are asking for anyone with information to get in touch. If you have any information or dashcam which can help us, please contact us as soon as possible.’
Lancashire Police are now appealing for any information from witnesses. They added in the statement: ‘Can you help? Were you travelling along the M65 motorway this afternoon (Sunday, August 27th) at around 5.15pm?
‘We are asking for dashcam footage or any other information after a brick was thrown from a footbridge at the Aston Villa team bus as it travelled along the motorway.
‘The footbridge is located by the slip road at junction 10 of the M65.’

This is the second time Burnley have had to issue a statement on the behaviour of some individuals, having released a strong statement on the opening day of the season claiming that the club would not tolerate supporters throwing objects on to the field of play towards players.
It came after Man City’s Rico Lewis was hit in the head by a lighter during their 3-0 win against Burnley.
The club said following that incident: ‘Burnley Football Club strongly condemn the unacceptable behaviour of items being thrown and the invasion of the pitch by some of our supporters during Friday night’s Premier League game against Manchester City.
‘The incidents happened during the game and both supporters were identified and removed from the ground. Both of them now face severe banning orders. Such behaviour will not be tolerated at this Club.
‘Investigations on these disappointing incidents are ongoing and any further supporters we identify will also be subject to lengthy banning orders.
‘The Club will not let the actions of any individuals spoil, affect, or jeopardise the enjoyment of all our supporters, the majority of whom enjoyed the return of Premier League football to Turf Moor.
‘Any supporter found to break the safety regulations we have in place at the Club will be identified and handed severe, potentially lifetime bans, from the Club.’
Twitter users reacted as a video emerges with Burnley taking to condemn a BRICK thrown at the Aston Villa team bus…
@ARandomRyan_: No true Burnley fan behaves this way. Get these hooligans away from our club and off the streets. Jail them and publicly identify them
@JoePerrin13: First booing taking the knee, then throwing a lighter at a city player and now this. Proper decent club, glad to have you back in the prem 👍
@Sam33084087: Second statement like this that the club have had to put out and its only our second game. Doesnt happen with other clubs. Embarrassing.
@MarlonSavoini: I’m ashamed to be apart of this fan base at times
@OfficialVizeh: Must be devastating that the great work by the board and Vincent in changing our identity of a likable footballing side gets dragged down by idiots
@claretcrumpet: Absolutely disgraceful. YOU ARE NOT BURNLEY FANS…..if you were….WE NO LONGER WANT YOU! Disgrace!
@lufcprog: When our Leeds Supporters coach was attacked just a few hundred yards from the ground on our last visit we got zero response from the police. Good luck with any investigation. Stoke attacked last season also.
@theavfcfaithful: Ridiculous behaviour
@Avfc85Jonno: Thanks for the 3 points 👍 hope you go down!
@datxgeorge: Unacceptable behavior
@F1RMY1882: Just as it appears the club is going places, herberts drag us back
@jamwills85: This town 😳 one step forward 2 steps back everytime. Embarrassing.
@thfcmikkel: 2 home games and 2 statements😭
@chrisrowley4: Sad that this was the only attacking threat Burnley posed today.
@KimWHU: This is such a shame as the Burnley officials and stewards have always been very welcoming to away fans in my experience and been a good away day.
@NeilWil95134976: It’s mad that Burnley FC staff worked so hard to put their club back amongst the elite to help the community, and the community thanks them by responding with violence towards other teams players. Shame for the real fans though.
@DaleClarets: Identify.. ban, fine and jail them ASAP no place for people like that at our club or in society
