Social media users reacted as a statement is issued after a young York City fan was seriously hurt in an attack at Bradford Park Avenue…
@JimCalverley (Replying to @BPAFCOfficial): This is a woeful statement and a clear attempt to shift all blame to outside of the ground. Your stewards were not just ineffective at managing your own fans throughout you were terribly understaffed which allowed tensions to rise beyond the usual chanting. @WestYorksPolice
@YorkCityPM: Your woeful attempt to make it clear it’s outside the ground and not your problem hides the fact you’re hugely understaffed and embarrassingly short of trained stewards and security.
@YCFC1972: Fans should have been segregated as I’m surprised nothing kicked off during the game. It certainly would have a few years ago!! Hope the lad who got hurt is OK!
@DerwentReds: The problem at football match’s nowadays is the lack of police. The stewards at this level are more or less useless. I appreciate its down to cost or more likely the police cut backs over the last 12 years but a number of police should be visible
@brien_del: Attacking the kids outside the ground is disgusting.. well done to both clubs for what they did afterwards and the players also
@SPrescott1981: Group of BPA fans should of been evicted after York first goal when they started kicking off and the stewards did nothing, it’s was very obvious to most something was going to happen after the game. The 2 lads I witnessed getting attacked one with a bootle and his mate getting a kicking on the floor was shocking, if I’m totally honest the only 2 police offices around at time couldn’t of been less interested when they were advised
@StrickenOffice: Very surprised it wasn’t segregated. Fans right next to each other.. mostly good humoured but always the threat it would turn nasty
@JoeBillGibbo:
Night will be remembered for the wrong reasons.
✅ Bradford PA allowing trouble makers to remain in the stadium
✅ Bradford PA allowing trouble makers to congregate at the exit, throwing bottles at the crowd
✅ 16 year old York fan has bottle smashed over his head
@JoeBillGibbo: Can we email York City about the fact the club did absolutely nothing to help the 16 year old lad out? Left him stranded in Bradford while concussed and club employees present didn’t care whatsoever. Embarrassing.
@MJJenkins11: Hope the young lad from York City is okay after I witnessed a group of so called Bradford Park Avenue fans set on him, kicking him in the head when he was on the floor. Really pleased me and my 13 year old got to see that side of lower league football. Disgusting.
@MikePannett: I was at the game – I’ve commented on the absolute failure to deal with around a dozen out of control yobs aged between 14-18 who committed criminal acts during the entire match inside the ground. They operated with complete impunity. The stewards did nothing. End result disgrace
@jack_MUFC__: Well done BPA, them 5 stewards on patrol did a great job.
Can see where these complaints will end up when the safety officer gets there hands on them 🤫 pic.twitter.com/wjcak0Q1zE

Benjamin Roberts: Stewards did absolutely nothing
Darren John Morley: Scum 20 Bradford fans on 1 York fan kicking a young lad on the floor disgraceful
Rich Lee Harris: Where were all the York lads after game who were singing about Bradford getting battered. Lads if you are gonna wind them up you need to stick together after game
Ian Savage: Shocking. Been there several times and never an ounce of bother despite drinking allowed in the ground and no segregation.
Neil Ferguson: Just got back and terrible having read all of the above. We left 2 mins before the final whistle so didn’t see any above. Both sets of fans were goading each other all night and no segregation with a sizeable following always asking for trouble. Similar instances at Buxton and Curzon in the past and needs looking at for this level keeping fans apart. Having said that, cowardly and disgraceful attacking young kids 20 to 1 and no need at all. Hope the city fans involved are all OK… 🤞
Jack Palmer: If all his mates backed him up it wouldn’t of happened the way it did. But they wound Bradford fans up all night, chanting about them and then when it came down to it all they did was cry to the stewards that they wasn’t helping him. It’s bad what happened to the lad but his mates are even worse for acting like hard lads when they didn’t dare move away from the gate and wanted to get back inside the ground. and terrible having read all of the above.
