Former EFL player comes out of retirement to try save Bradford (Park Avenue) from relegation

The much loved former EFL player James Hanson comes out of retirement to try and save Bradford (Park Avenue) from relegation.

The Northern Premier League Premier Division strugglers has successfully enticed the Bantams legend out of retirement on a deal until the end of the season.

They sit 19th in the 7th tier division with 25 points from 35 games played, and two points from safety, but teams around Bradford (Park Avenue) have 1-2 games in hand.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Bradford (Park Avenue) can today announce the signing of ex-Bradford City striker James Hanson, confirming an exciting return from his previously announced retirement.

Hanson is available for selection immediately, following agreements on a deal that will see him at the Horsfall until the end of the season.

As you may already know, Hanson is well known by fans at our neighbours Bradford City, where he made over 300 appearances, and scored at least 91 goals over an 8-year career with the Bantams.

His playing career has already spanned over 17 years, and along with City, he has been on the books at Eccleshill, Guiseley, Sheffield United, Bury, AFC Wimbledon, Grimsby Town, Farsley Celtic, Boston United, and most recently at Worksop Town.

Hanson’s stats show over 142 goals in over 536 appearances, from Non-League to the EFL, bringing a wealth of experience into Danny Whitakers squad.

James had this to say on his signing;

“Really happy to come and help my local team in their bid to avoid relegation, it’s on my doorstep and a team full of young lads so my experience will definitely help them”

You can watch just a few of his best goals on our announcement video below.

We’d also like to say a huge thanks to the BPA Development Fund for their support in helping to get this deal completed.
