Match preview: where the tie could be decided

Bradford’s third place and Peterborough’s 21st put 18 league positions between sides who usually compete on the same terms. The hosts’ most recent league outings at Burton and Oxford both finished goalless. Those results offer a solid starting point for this tie: keep Peterborough’s opportunities scarce, then make their own spells of pressure count. A cup quarter-final, however, will require more than simply avoiding defeat.

Peterborough’s recent 4–1 loss at Huddersfield and 1–1 draw at Bromley show why a change of competition might be welcome. Their third-round shootout victory over Barnsley, after a 3–3 draw, also shows that this cup run has followed a different pattern from their league campaign. They cannot assume Bradford will give them the same number of chances, but they have already survived a tie in which control changed hands.

The August league meeting ended 2–0 to Bradford at Valley Parade. It is relevant evidence, rather than a result that carries forward automatically. Peterborough need a more secure start and a way to make Bradford defend facing their own goal. The hosts will want to turn their recent defensive certainty into a decisive attacking contribution before a close tie reaches penalties.

How both teams reached the fourth round

Bradford reached this stage with a 3–1 win at Leyton Orient. Peterborough advanced on penalties against Barnsley after a 3–3 draw. Both now have a chance to reach the last eight without facing Premier League opposition in this round.

When is the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw?

The draw takes place on Wednesday 28 October, after Liverpool v Chelsea on Sky Sports. Dave Jones hosts, with Conor Coady and Graeme Le Saux making the draw. There is no fixed draw time: the 8pm match could go to penalties. Quarter-final ties are scheduled for the week commencing 14 December 2026.

This fourth-round tie has no extra time: if the scores are level after 90 minutes, it goes straight to penalties. The prediction and supporter poll above refer to the score after 90 minutes, rather than which team qualifies.

What is the financial reward for a cup run?

There is no fixed prize-fund payment for winning this fourth-round tie. The reported competition awards are £100,000 for the winners, £50,000 for the runners-up and £25,000 for losing semi-finalists. Those are awards for the finishing stage, rather than a cumulative payment for every round.

The clubs also share net gate receipts after permitted match costs. Television selections can bring facility fees, with the amount depending on the round and broadcast arrangements. Those sources of income are separate from prize money.
