Arsenal to win.

Fleetwood Town v Arsenal brings the Premier League side to Highbury Stadium for a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie whose 84-place league gap tells only part of the story. Fleetwood have earned their home occasion by producing much stronger cup results than their League Two position suggests.

84 league places between the sides.
Fleetwood Town: 18th in League Two. Arsenal: 2nd in Premier League. The overall gap counts the 20 Premier League places and 24 places in each EFL division.

Team news: injuries, suspensions and availability

Fleetwood Town: Lewis McCann is suspended after two bookings in the competition, while Kane Thompson-Sommers and Will Johnson remain injured. The latest reports of Matt Lawlor’s pre-match update say Andy Cannon is available again, with his minutes likely to be managed, and Finley Potter is fit after a cut above his eye.

Arsenal: Bukayo Saka and William Saliba remain out. Christos Tzolis is still recovering from a hamstring injury and is a major doubt, while Riccardo Calafiori needs assessment after picking up a problem against Everton. A possible rest for another senior player should not be confused with a confirmed injury absence.

Match preview: where the tie could be decided

Fleetwood sit 18th in League Two; Arsenal are second in the Premier League. Counting the divisions between them puts 84 positions in the overall league order between the clubs. That is a substantial difference in resources and regular opposition, but Fleetwood’s 1–0 third-round victory over Sheffield United is a better guide to what they hope to reproduce on this particular evening than their last two away league defeats.

Arsenal arrive after beating Everton 2–0 in the league and drawing 2–2 with Bayern Munich in Europe. Their 4–2 win at Ipswich in the previous round showed their ability to score against lower-division opposition, while also illustrating that a cup tie can still demand defensive work. Whatever team is selected, the visitors will need to match the intensity of an occasion that carries exceptional significance for the home club.

Fleetwood’s task is to keep the game competitive long enough for the crowd and the possibility of an upset to matter. They will want clear decisions without the ball and useful possession when they regain it, rather than inviting uninterrupted attacks. Arsenal can make that difficult by moving the ball quickly and turning their greater depth into sustained pressure. The gap makes the visitors favourites; it does not award them a place in the next round.

How both teams reached the fourth round

Fleetwood beat Sheffield United 1–0 in round three, while Arsenal won 4–2 at Ipswich. For the hosts, a nationally televised home tie also brings a different financial opportunity from an ordinary League Two fixture.

When is the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw?

The draw takes place on Wednesday 28 October, after Liverpool v Chelsea on Sky Sports. Dave Jones hosts, with Conor Coady and Graeme Le Saux making the draw. There is no fixed draw time: the 8pm match could go to penalties. Quarter-final ties are scheduled for the week commencing 14 December 2026.

This fourth-round tie has no extra time: if the scores are level after 90 minutes, it goes straight to penalties. The prediction and supporter poll above refer to the score after 90 minutes, rather than which team qualifies.

What is the financial reward for a cup run?

There is no fixed prize-fund payment for winning this fourth-round tie. The reported competition awards are £100,000 for the winners, £50,000 for the runners-up and £25,000 for losing semi-finalists. Those are awards for the finishing stage, rather than a cumulative payment for every round.

The clubs also share net gate receipts after permitted match costs. Television selections can bring facility fees, with the amount depending on the round and broadcast arrangements. Those sources of income are separate from prize money.
