First team and ex Notts County players have given their support to a fan following a racist online attack he sadly suffered this week.
Brandon Chambers, a secondary school manager, received abusive messages after he was supportive of the Black Lives Matter movement.
One racist message saw Brandon referred to as “a monkey” as well as told to “stop chimping around”.
He was left shocked after initially seeing it, however instead tried to turn it into a joke to make himself feel better.
Deep down, the racist comments left him so upset that he couldn’t stop crying, says it “broke him completely”.
Brandon says he wanted people to know that their words do hurt and it wasn’t OK,.
It’s something us social media users have seen a huge amount lately when hurtful words was partly responsible for the death of Love Island presenter Caroline Flack, prompting the #BeKind hashtag to go viral in stuck in people’s heads.
He’s thanked those who offered their sympathy, including first team players and ex-players via an emotional video
He said: “It’s pretty hurtful, especially with everything that’s going on at the moment. We’re in 2020. It shouldn’t be happening.”
“I don’t expect to turn my phone one and see someone call me a chimp. I don’t expect to see that and I don’t want to see that”.
I haven’t got round to messaging back everyone yet. I, and my family have had a lot of comments and messages on social media regarding them tweets. Racism hurts and it makes you feel like you don’t matter. Don’t make someone feel as low as I do now ? #BlackLivesMattter pic.twitter.com/YGKEDQcRXs

Notts County players defended Brandon after he posted his video online, which has also been shared by other footballers, commentators, presenters and fans from across the nation.
Brandon says he feels more reassured after seeing so many people condone the racist messages sent to him.
He added: “These people don’t know me but they took the time to follow me, direct message me and support me.”
Very proud of this man for how he has dealt with the racism received. It is no surprise to see the @Official_NCFC fans supporting Brandon – what a great club & community. Together
✊?✊??Thank you to the person who contacted me regarding this.

He said that even though he is still obviously hurt by what was said, he will eventually bounce back and not let racists win.
I may be hurting right now but believe me I’ll bounce back, I won’t let this get me down for long. Racists will never win, the rest of us won’t let them. We are all in this together. Love to you all ? pic.twitter.com/fgZo8Ez1dK

Despite the abuse he received, he maintains adamant in speaking more on racism and considers attending a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest in Nottingham on Sunday.
