Neil Warnock speaks on keeping Huddersfield up as Reading’s tweets are hilariously mocked by fans

Neil Warnock speaks on keeping Huddersfield up as some of Reading’s tweets are hilariously mocked by fans on social media.

Huddersfield Town defeated promoted Sheffield United and relegated Reading from the Championship.

The Terriers won it thanks to Danny Ward’s superb finish from 25 yards out after the break.

With just one match remaining, a point would have confirmed Huddersfield’s survival in the second-tier. They are now six points clear of the Royals.

Warnock’s side take on the club they sent down, Reading, in what could have been a relegation shootout, but fresh in the minds of the staff and players for both sides will be the result that came in on Thursday that confirmed the clubs’ fate.

Reading were previously docked six points for failing to adhere to a business plan, and the Terriers’ two losses in their last 11 games have seen them escape danger.

Warnock, 74, cut short his holiday in the USA in order to take over at the John Smith’s Stadium. He is likely to leave with his mission completed.

Neil Warnock said post-match: “I’ve really enjoyed it. I didn’t want to leave it in the wrong situation by getting relegated, I didn’t want to finish on that, whereas if I do finish now, I’ve got great memories.

“They are such a good group of lads, so naive some of them.

“I’m so exhausted. You only see me laughing and joking and doing pressers but behind the scenes it’s been bloody hard work to please everybody and keep the motivation of the fans as well as the players.

“But Ronnie Jespon’s bee a colossus for me, taken a lot off my mind.

“You can’t replicate an evening like this when that whistle goes. As old as I am it’ still the same when that whistle goes when you know how much it means.

“They’ve all worked their socks off for me, I like to think we’ve had a laugh along the way.”

“I think it’s the first time I’ve ever had one of them!” he laughed on the player’s giving him a guard of honour.

“The way the fans got behind us in the second half… I know we had to play better for them to get behind us but it’s been an amzaing roller-coaster ride.

“I think tonight will have converted youngsters to be Huddersfield Town fans for years to come.

“I remember going to Bramall Lane on a similar night, I think it was Arsenal we were playing under floodlights, and that just did me, I had to be a Unitedite.”

“You can imagine with jobs at stake and things like that I just thought we were nervous, wanting to have another touch instead of being confident and I was hoping we could get to half-time at 0-0,” said Warnock.

“At half-time I told them what we’d been doing the last nine or 10 games when we’ve beaten good teams, get on the front foot like against Middlesbrough and let them know they were in a game – pass the ball better, keep the ball better, create, pass and move.

“I thought we were so much better in the second half, could have scored more goals.

“I thought we thoroughly deserved it in the end.”

As mentioned, some of Reading’s tweets are being mocked by fans…

Andy Carroll issued a future promise to Reading supporters after relegation was confirmed.

Carroll went on Instagram with an apology to supporters and promised them that he would do all he can to take them back to the Championship.

He wrote: “The people the place I love you all. I’m so so sorry we weren’t enough this season. I know I’ll be working my f’****** a*** off this summer to get this fantastic club back up and beyond. Thank you for making this club my home.”

Charlie Adam said: “I was only there for one season and met a lot of good people in and around the club, relegation is never easy but you will bounce back from this.”

Jem Karacan who was at the fixture for BBC Radio Berkshire, adds: “This feels awful.

“It is a gutting feeling being here in this stadium as well.

“It’s sad and quite emotional, a horrible feeling.

“We started off so well at the beginning of this season and to see us go downhill like this has been tough,” he said.

“I guess the writing has been on the wall for the last few years.

“But the club can bounce back from this as long as things are done right.

“Planning has to start now for how we get back into the Championship.

“It will be a tough day for fans,” he added. “I would ask fans to please come and support Noel Hunt (interim manager) and the team, they really did try so let’s be there for them.

“Reading fans are quality so I’m sure they will turn up.

“Going forward, stuff has to happen quickly now because we will be recruiting for a team to play in League One and targets will change.”

As mentioned, Neil Warnock speaks on keeping Huddersfield up as Reading’s tweets are hilariously mocked by fans, this is how Twitter users reacted…

@prestige_boost: Looking forward to the Thames Valley derby next season and cheaper season tickets 👍🏻🙃 btw anyone up for smashing up the stadium on Friday? 🙃

@Rfctomo: Special mention goes out to Dai, Paul and Kia.

@Ben_CFR: Rise again? Doubt it with Dai in charge guys, interfering when we reportedly wanted to sack Ince, signing “lucky” players to exorbitant contracts, ignoring any warning against crazy spending, almost £100 mill debt, only going one way if he doesn’t drastically change.

@TimTtam77:
Sheff Wed 2021 – Cheated, got pts deduction & got relegated
Derby 2022 – Cheated, got pts deduction & got relegated
Reading 2023 – Cheated, got pts deduction & got relegated

@etiawneb:
Possibly the worst fight for survival in history. Down with a whimper.
Last 12 games, 0 wins.
2 league wins in 2023.
It’s the fans that care, the hard working staff behind the scenes, that’s who it effects the most.
Save this tweet for again in 2 weeks time…

@claretsroundup: “BuT… bUt… BuT We GoT 106 PoInTs 17 YeArS aGo”

@Fozziebear17: Should have sacked Ince months ago

@MatDevon: Thanks Dai, Gourlay and Kia – You’ve all done a fantastic job. Credit must also go to Anton Zingaravich, Chris Samuelson and the Thai Consortium for asset stripping the club. Fantastic work @EFL for your fit and proper person tests.

@FFC_Dave: Cheerio lads. Remember you still hold the record points total, if it helps you sleep at night. That’s what really matters right now.

@mbarnett90: Completely deserved for the terrible management at every level of the club for a decade. Could be a long time before we get back to the Championship

@WBeauchamp1995: The players aren’t hurting, they downed tools at Christmas. The only thing they are doing is getting on the phone to their agents. #ReadingFC

@mitchconroy55: I speak on behalf of everyone when I say thank goodness for that

@gillesofftheweb: Chin up lads. Coronation on Monday.

@Finlay_Rufc5: Doesn’t matter cos you got the points record tho right

@NFFC_owen: I’m content with going down to the championship now knowing we won’t have to play reading again.

@ACW52: You have some real questions to answer to fans and not the PR spill that has been pushed out

@weareBCSRF: Pass our condolences on to Andy Carroll 😂🤣😂🚮

@Danny_Dugdale: Enjoy your 106 Points Trophy parade chaps. Fucking idiots 👋

@ltfckieren: Celebrating the draw like a win. Lumley time wasting deliberately all game. Carroll thinking he could cheat to keep them up. It’s a beautiful end to a poem.
