Watford trolled over their new range celebrating anniversary of Troy Deeney’s goal vs Leicester

Watford have been trolled by fans online over their new range celebrating the 10th anniversary of Troy Deeney’s goal vs Leicester.

One of the great moments in the Hornets’ history happened in 2013, with the game televised live on Sky Sports, in injury-time and a place in the Championship playoff final was at stake.

The game was in its final minutes and the score was 2-2. Marco Cassetti fouled Anthony Knockaert in the penalty area.

The Hornets lost in the most brutal way, as the penalty call was a dubious one. Then, one of the most memorable football sequences ever took place.

Manuel Almunia saved Knockaert’s penalty, and he was quick to stop the Frenchman when the rebound came. Cassetti, who was there to clear with the ball up the pitch, helped Watford break quickly.

Fernando Forestieri, on the right side, swung a cross towards the far post to Jonathan Hogg.

Troy Deeney then scored a spectacular stoppage-time goal after Kasper Schmeichel jumped towards him.

Deeney ripped off his shirt and jumped straight into the crowd, with much of those in the stands running onto the pitch.

Watford supporters will never forget the commentary, but Jonny Phillips’ reaction on Soccer Saturday was just as good.

Watford advanced to the playoff final, but lost to Crystal Palace.

To mark the 10th anniversary of that moment, Watford have some new stuff on their website, but they are their new merchandise getting quite the mocking.

The Second Tier (@secondtierpod) took to Twitter to write: This is a genuine shirt that is genuinely available to buy in the Watford club shop that genuinely costs £49.

As mentioned, Watford were trolled over their new range celebrating the 10th anniversary of Troy Deeney’s goal vs Leicester…

@Hornet811: This does my head in. I was there and it was a great moment. It counted for sod all, it’s absolutely embarrassing how we keep bringing it up.

@LCFCArch1e: You didn’t even win the play offs 🤣

@mathews67_ben: Embarrassingly bad. For once I don’t mean the players

@Thirdand4ever: Personally looking forward to a similar replica in 10 years time of the Manaj goal at Birmingham. It was equally as an amazing experience to say that ‘You were there’ when Sema’s cross hit him and went in.

@mattwatf: Someone’s gotta fit the sizings of the bucket hats, they don’t need to be that big.

@hueylad: THE goal that led Watford to the eternal glory of losing in the play-off final two weeks later and condemned Leicester to the depths of misery and hardship winning the Championship title the following season and the Premier League two years after that. I might buy one.

@dompage16: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 unreal! Might get myself some! They lost in the final. Next season we walked the championship, season after great escape. Then walked the prem 🤣best thing that ever happened to us 💙

@PervesGrundy: I’m genuinely embarrassed for everyone associated with this.

@WatfordEng: People need to be sacked for coming up with shit like this. One of the best moments you’ll ever experience. Jealous from other fans but that’s it. It’s not something to keep celebrating, it’s just something you keep watching cos it was that insane, not fucking T shirts ffs 😂

@will_pickering: Er, you lost in the final lads… #cpfc

@FYPFanzine: It’s an iconic moment but it seems a bit mental to celebrate a play-off win like this when they lost in the final…to us? 🤪

@JackWhitman_7: biggest success in your clubs history lol

@dilemma1979: Even Deeney has said because we lost at Wembley it’s not the best goal (something along those lines) Yes it was good but counted for nothing. This makes me cringe, embarrassing

@MJDLCFC: That surely takes the cake for the most tinpot and tragic thing in football history? 😂

@SamfosterSam: Cannot be real

@beckytLCFC:
Since this goal Leicester have:
– been promoted to PL
– completed one of greatest escapes to stay up
– won the PL
– QF in UCL
– won FA cup
– won community shield
– SF in UECL
Watford:
– lost in the play off final
– championship runners up twice
– 700 managers
worth celebrating 😅

@CNinety2:
that moment*
*before we lost the playoff final, took 2 more years to get promoted and in that 1st year in the premier league saw our opponents win the entire thing

@AllEnglandFlags: If we actually won the final this would mean more. This club is horrifically out of touch with the fans. £30 for 4 pairs of socks. You lot just don’t get it do you.

@kingpowers: Jeez this is embarrassing 😳

@DanCohen17: We are a pathetic club. This moment, albeit the greatest “moment” in football history, led to precisely nothing. We lost the final, meaning we fell short of the ultimate goal! To celebrate this anniversary is embarrassing. Yes, post “on this day” clips, absolutely. But not this!

@lcfc_alf: oh yes, THE deeney goal that counted for absolutely nothing and was the first chapter in Leicester’s script

@TheAlexMasonSho: Hilariously embarrassing from Watford this 😂

@gazzascott70: How very sad it meant nothing in the end. Be in the discount bin by July.

@Heliacalrl: You didn’t even get promoted that season let it go

@stan_innovate: @WatfordFC are an embarrassment of a football club. That goal literally meant nothing. @wilfriedzaha single-handedly destroyed you in the final. Absolute Tom pot club with and even worse supporter base
