The National League North match between Chorley and Bradford (Park Avenue) gets abandoned after 12 minutes were played out on Saturday.
The two sides came face to face for what was the duo’s second game of the 2021/22 campaign, however, a worrying injury meant the game had to end early.
The Avenue had initially started well. Jordan Windass was looking lively on the right wing, but both goalkeepers hadn’t been forced into a save by the 10th minute.
Then shortly after, there was big concern for Bradford’s Jake Hibbs who had gone down after a challenge. The stretcher was then immediately called onto the pitch.
Worrying fans and players looked on with Harvey Smith initially booked for his challenge on Hibbs – the Bradford midfielder stayed down with the referee then changing his mind and showed Smith a red card.
Both teams went on to stand in front of their dugouts as the game has been stopped with Hibbs receiving treatment.
At 3:30pm, the referee indicated that play would resume once Jake Hibbs had received treatment. However by 4pm, the decision was made to abandon the game whilst the wait went on for an ambulance to get to the ground.
Post-match reaction from Mark Bower, manager of Bradford (Park Avenue): “Our priority is to make Jake Hibbs is looked after and in a stable position. I’m devastated for him. He’s looked fit and is a key player for us. Our thoughts are with him, his family and friends.
“It’s the correct decision to abandon the match.”

@stug1664: Sounds nasty and hoping for a speedy recovery for the lad but, seems extreme to abandon the game for it
@_JordanTindall: Had no choice, was left laying on the pitch for over an hour before an ambulance arrived and then took close to half hour to get him in the ambulance. We left at 5 and he was still on the pitch
@paullamoefc: Doesn’t sound good. Hope the lad is ok 🙏
@efcpp: Sounds bad
@EFCNovaScotia: Oh god, this doesn’t sound good. Fingers crossed Hibbs is okay.
@AllanSxintMax: Hope hibbs recovers soon
@Andrew63506744: Broke my fibs and tiba if that’s what the injury is he has my sympathy a year at least
@HorsHorsfield: Sending out best wishes.
@TismeRick: Hope the lad is ok, it looked terrible, all the best from a Chorley FC fan
@HarriersOnline: Not good. Thoughts are with your player
@m_w890: Hope he’s OK. Awful
@_JordanTindall: If your ever unfortunate enough to break your leg, pray it’s not in Chorley, where they’ll leave you laying on the pitch for an hour and a half without any form of pain relief and no sign of an ambulance
@Stephen54761593: Fingers crossed he makes a full recovery….enjoyed his football when at FC Halifax Town.
@paulwallsports: Stay strong sir, I hope he’s ok
