The 2024/25 season is just around the corner, and with that in mind, we look to FourFourTwo who predicts the Championship table.
We turn our attention to the second tier division, and as always, it causes plenty of reaction and debates on social media.
When looking at the outright favourites with the bookies, Leeds United are currently listed by Sky Bet at 3/1 as the outright winner, months after they missed out on promotion after they lost the playoff final.
Burnley, who won the league in 2022/23, are back in the second tier, having failed to stay in the Premier League under the now Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany, so now with Scott Parker in charge, who also has experience of getting clubs up into the top flight, are second favourites at 15/2.
Luton Town are another team who couldn’t avoid the drop last season, but gave a valiant effort. Rob Edwards’ side are at 9/1 for the Championship title.

Have a look at who they thought would finish from 24th to 1st below, some will surprise, others not so…
24) OXFORD
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted Oxford United to finish in 24th place and relegated for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Cameron Brannagan’s brilliance could give the Yellows a sniff, but this is a huge step up for everyone. Des Buckingham took four months to get to grips with League One, so the Championship may have come too soon for the gifted coach – and that’s if he isn’t lured away first…
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 7th place for the 2023/24 League One campaign – instead they finished 5th and promoted via the playoffs.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Recruitment looks collaborative this summer, and it’s borne fruit with Ruben Rodrigues joining from Notts County and local lad Josh McEachran from MK Dons. The attacking midfielder could help the Yellows return to playoffs contention after last year’s slump.
23) DERBY
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted Derby County to finish in 23rd place and relegated for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Owner David Clowes has had to rebuild from scratch due to prior damage, so regardless of the club’s size, going from square one to fully Championship ready in two years was a big ask. Max Bird’s exit wwon’t help, either, and they can’t afford to reply on wins from a tough run in.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 2nd place for the 2023/24 League One campaign – and that is where they ended up finishing.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Last summer’s takeover happened the same month as opening day, so preparation was rushed, but this year the Rams had a running jump into recruitment with Joe Ward, Callum Elder and Curtis Nelson all decent early defensive recruits. Strong improvement looks likely.
22) PLYMOUTH
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted Plymouth Argyle to finish in 22nd place and relegated for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Having scored the fifth most goals in the division up to then, Argyle netted just 16 in 20 matches after loanees Finn Azaz and Luke Cundle followed Steven Schumacher out of the door in January. Now there’s uncertainty over the future of yet more star men. Tough gig, Wazza.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 20th place for the 2023/24 Championship campaign – instead they finished 21st.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Survival is more than achievable. The long term injury to star keeper Michael Cooper won’t help early on (except in temporarily putting off suitors), but Argyle have a talented manager and they recruit superbly: defender Julio Pleguezuelo is an astonishing coup from FC Twente.
21) BLACKBURN
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 21st place for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Callum Brittain Domic Hyam, Harry Pickering and Sondre Tronstad represents a solid core, but strength in depth is missing and creativity lacking, while business has been slow – and they only just stayed up last time with the goals of Sammie Szmodics…
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 6th place for the 2023/24 Championship campaign – instead they finished 19th.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Blackburn have learned to recruit smartly for a clear style, and they are superbly coached by Jon Dahl Tomasson. If Niall Ennis settles in quickly up top and Adam Wharton has the season that natives hope he will, then that small step into the top six looks tantalizingly close.
20) MILLWALL
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 20th place for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Replicating 2017-18’s playoff challenge under Neil harris is very unlikely during a difficult time for the club, but the Lions legend does know how to make The Den a fortress. That, and the dominance shown by defender Jake Cooper, might prove to be vital this season.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 9th place for the 2023/24 Championship campaign – instead they finished 13th.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Having shipped only 178 goals in 171 games under Gary Rowett’s leadership, the Lions should be reliable at the back again. Playoff hopes rest on whether star signing Zian Flemming can deliver on that difficult second album – and if Millwall can keep him to find out
19) PORTSMOUTH
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 19th place for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Pompey must channel the spirited bouncebackability displayed in their League One title win – a spine of Conor Shaughnessy, Marlon Pack and Colby Bishop will be pivotal to that. Josh Murphy, recruited from fellow new boys Oxford, could help them to complete phase one.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 4th place for the 2023/24 League One campaign – instead they finished as champions.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Business has been left field, but highly regarded sporting director Richard Hughes values thinking outside the box. He did that to poach Mousinho from Oxford, who managed 39 points from 23 games – form that gets you in the mix, especially if they keep Colby Bishop.
18) WATFORD
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 18th place for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: With financial uncertainty and a rookie head coach, the Hornets are no longer looking up towards promotion. In fact, they could find themselves looking down, though players of the quality of Giorgi Chakvetadze and Wesley Hoedt can steer them away from trouble.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 11th place for the 2023/24 Championship campaign – instead they finished 15th.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: To implement his direct, extreme high-pressing methods, without the advantage he had at Barnsley of inheriting a group who’d already worked towards that style, Valerien Ismael needs time. West Brom allowed him all of six months. How long will he be given at Watford…?
17) PRESTON
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 17th place for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Following six narrow wins in their first seven matches, Preston went through the remaining 85 per cent of 2023-24 exhibiting bottom six form, so a drop from 10th place is probable. They’ll stay up, though, if key defender Liam Lindsay can start 46 league matches again.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 17th place for the 2023/24 Championship campaign – instead they finished 10th.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Preston have only known top-half form since Ryan Lowe came in, but that could change if they don’t find goals and a more sustainable plan – since 2020, they’ve made as many loan signings as permanent ones. Liverpool right back Calvin Ramsay is a good borrow, mind…
