8) OXFORD

The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted the U’s to finish in 8th place for the 2022/23 campaign.

FFT VERDICT: Defender Ciaron Brown’s return after a successful loan is welcome for Oxford, who have kept the core of their playoff chasing crop but waited to add to it. There will be chances: poacher Matty Taylor should rank among the league’s best even if the Yellows don’t quite.

7) PORTSMOUTH

The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted Pompey to finish in 7th place and just miss out on the playoffs for the 2022/23 campaign.

FFT VERDICT: Cowley trusts the ever reliable Pack to inspire a promotion push but big improvement is needed, especially with no Gavin Bazunu on loan to perform heroics in goal. Despite Eric Eisner pleading patience, a third consecutive season outside the top six would go down very badly.

6) BARNSLEY

The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted the Tykes to finish in 6th place and just make the playoffs for the 2022/23 campaign.

FFT VERDICT: With Diff in the dugout and more transparency upstairs, this coming campaign is not as daunting as it once appeared. Much of this Tarn crop competed in the 2020-21 Championship playoffs, but now they require some fresh guidance to rediscover their optimal form.

5) PETERBOROUGH

The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted the Posh to finish in 5th place make the playoffs for the 2022/23 campaign.

FFT VERDICT: Since McCann’s first stint managing Posh, he’s taken Doncaster into the League One playoffs on a modest budget and won the title with Hull. Peterborough should be in the mix this season: a fit Ben Thompson will rock this league and the squad should have plenty of goals in it.

The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted the Trotters to finish in 4th place make the playoffs for the 2022/23 campaign.

FFT VERDICT: Wanderers won 16 of their last 22 matches in 2020-21 and 14 over the same period last term – stark improvements on previous form. James Trafford and Jack Iredale will help to ensure that, this time, the first 24 encounters also go to plan. Evatt’s charges look ready.

3) MK DONS

The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted Milton Keynes Dons to finish in 3rd place and make the playoffs for the 2022/23 campaign.

FFT VERDICT: Write off MK Dons at your peril. Departures for Twine and Darling might hurt, but they do mean that esteemed sporting director Liam Sweeting and his recruitment team can reinvest a portion of the £5.5m received in fees. The results could prove ominous for the rest.

2) IPSWICH

The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted the Tractorboys to finish in 2nd place and win automatic promotion for the 2022/23 campaign.

FFT VERDICT: McKenna has the natives on board already: ipswich were defensively rock solid under the former Man Utd coach while creatinh more chances than before. Now for nippy poachers Kayden Jackson, Tyreece John-Jules and Ladapo to put the chances away…

1) SHEFFIELD WED

The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted the Owls to finish in 1st place and win promotion for the 2022/23 campaign.

FFT VERDICT: Expectations are often grand at Hillsborough – this season, even more so. Moore, hungry for his first managerial promotion, followed playoff defeat by re-enforcing the Owls’ spine with Will Vaulks as well as Rotherham’s Michaels, Ihiekwe and Smith. This has to be their year.
