The FA Cup Second Round draw ball numbers are out and so are highlights of several First Round upsets including non league sides.
The first weekend in November saw plenty of FA Cup magic and it’s always an exciting time of year made even better when minnows sides left in the competition go up against the full-time professionals from League One and Two.
There was a good number of upsets as underdogs overcame the odds to beat higher-ranked opponents.
THE FA’S ROUND-UP
Danny Waldron’s double fired Alvechurch to a memorable Emirates FA Cup upset as the Southern League side stunned League One Cheltenham Town 2-1 on first round proper weekend.
Ian Long’s men, the lowest-ranked club left in the competition, pulled off a remarkable result at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium as Waldron struck either side of the break to complete a brilliant victory.
Ryan Jackson pulled one back for Wade Elliott’s hosts but Alvechurch, who currently sit 19th in the Southern League Premier Division Central, held on in Gloucestershire to keep their name in the hat ahead of Monday night’s second round draw.
Farnborough were another non-league side to spring a significant first round shock as two late goals stunned League Two Sutton United at Gander Green Lane.
The contest looked destined for a replay until Michael Fernandes struck in the 86th minute to trigger wild scenes among the National League South side’s travelling supporters.
And Francis Amartey then grabbed a second in stoppage-time to cap an unforgettable afternoon in South London for the Hampshire side.
Elsewhere, National League North club King’s Lynn Town also pulled off an unforgettable upset as they won 1-0 at Doncaster Rovers.
Super-sub Gold Omotayo headed home with just seven minutes remaining to fire the Norfolk club to a sizeable scalp in South Yorkshire.
National League North and South sides AFC Fylde and Chelmsford City both earned replays against Gillingham and Barnet, while non-league Chesterfield shocked League Two Northampton Town thanks to Armando Dobra’s early strike.
National League South side Chippenham Town were another club to cause a major upset as they reached the second round for the first time in their history with a 1-0 win against Lincoln City.
Joe Hanks’ goal just before the break proved decisive as League One Lincoln were unable to haul themselves back into the contest in Wiltshire.
League Two Grimsby Town put five past table-topping League One club Plymouth Argyle at Blundell Park as a brutal first-half blitz proved too hot for the Devon visitors to handle.
Brendan Kiernan scored twice while Michee Efete, Andy Smith and Anthony Glennon also netted to propel the hosts to an entertaining victory.
National League Solihull Moors held League Two Hartlepool Town to a gutsy 2-2 draw in the West Midlands, while National League South Weymouth also earned a replay at League Two AFC Wimbledon.
League Two Walsall dumped League One Wycombe out with a 2-0 victory at Adams Park, with goals from midfielder Jacob Maddox and forward Isaac Hutchinson doing the damage in Buckinghamshire.
Elsewhere on a busy day of first round action, Kevin Phillips’ South Shields were unable cause an upset against League One Forest Green Rovers in front of the BBC television cameras.
Former Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham struck either side of half-time in the day’s lunchtime kick-off, with an audacious lob from the halfway line in stoppage-time helping cap a professional away performance in the north-east.
Dagenham & Redbridge clinched a 1-0 win at Maidenhead United, Stevenage beat Gateshead 3-2 away from home and Ebbsfleet United toppled FC Halifax Town on another unforgettable day of Emirates FA Cup drama.

The second round will be played on the weekend of Saturday 26 November 2022.
“It’s something you watch when you’re young, but to come and score two goals in the first round of the FA Cup is something that doesn’t come round very often,” Alvechurch striker Danny Waldron told BBC Radio WM.
“I’m feeling very good right now and looking forward to the next round already.”
“We’re not used to big crowds, that’s the most we’ve played in front of for a long time.
“They gave us a massive lift today and we needed it.
“It’s definitely my highest moment, the best that I’ve done so far, so it’s a proud achievement and we’ll see what happens next round now.”
Cheltenham boss Wade Elliott said: “The first thing you have to do is congratulate Alvechurch. I think anything I can try and say in mitigation will sound like I’m trying to detract from them, which isn’t the case at all.”
“The thing with the FA Cup money is you never budget for it because you never know what you’re going to win,” Chippenham chairman Neil Blackmore told BBC Radio Wiltshire.
“To win anything at all is a bonus, so to win £41,000 today is absolutely unbelievable.
“This is an older club and quite expensive to run, these floodlights cost us a fortune the way energy prices are so there’ll be lots of things to spend it on, so it won’t last long, but it’s going to be a massive, massive help to us.”
“It’s a fantastic day,” Farnborough manager Spencer Day said.
“When you’ve been in football a long time like I have, you have to enjoy these moments, they don’t come around very often.”
King’s Lynn boss Tommy Widdrington: “We didn’t come to try and kick them off the pitch, we tried to play football and they do allow you to do that.”
“We had to put our ‘A’ game out there and I think that was probably as good a performance collectively as we’ve had for a while, and there’s not a better time than to do it on a stage like this, is there?
“I’m hoping for their sake they get a plum draw in the next round because I think to a man they absolutely deserve it.”
Weymouth goalscorer Ahkeem Rose spoke post-match having grabbed a draw against AFC Wimbledon: “We had training on Thursday and the gaffer said the FA Cup balls are quite light and if we get a free-kick just strike straight through it, and that’s what I did and it went in.”
