Experienced English footballer makes 47th move of his playing career aged 42

An experienced English footballer makes his 47th move of his playing career aged 42, and it’s causing plenty of talk on social media.

Forward Jefferson Louis, who is still going strong it would seem, has signed a deal to join Southern League Division One Central outfit North Leigh FC.

It comes following a stint at Beaconsfield Town and St Albans City during the coronavirus pandemic, and first four games for the latter, he managed to score twice. Though lockdown and the season ending early limited how many games he ended up playing in.

Now he’s headed to non league side North Leigh who currently sit 4th in their division, picking up 24 points from 14 games played.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Jefferson is undoubtedly football’s ultimate journeyman; the 42-year-old has almost as many clubs on his CV as he does years on earth. He joins the Millers from Southern League, Premier Division side Beaconsfield Town, whom we thank for their cooperation in completing the associated paperwork. Millers fans will no doubt remember he scored two goals for the Ram’s in their League Cup victory at Eynsham Park earlier in the season.

Director of Football Craig Dore said of the signing: β€œI am delighted Jeff has agreed to be part of what we’re trying to build here at North Leigh. A striker we have admired and had on our radar for some time now; he has a commanding presence up front and, with a natural eye for goal, he is a player who is very difficult to defend against. He also possesses a wealth of footballing experience, which will be invaluable for the younger members of the First Team”.

From Banbury United to Brackley Town, Lincoln City to Lowestoft, and Weymouth to Wrexham, it’s fair to say Jefferson Louis has been around the block. We reckon North Leigh will be the 41st club of his career. He remains a tall and powerful striker, who has adapted his game superbly to remain a handful for opponents.

It was a full 25 years ago that Harrow born Louis first signed for Risborough Rangers. However, it wasn’t until 2002 that he made his entrance into the Football League, earning his debut at our near neighbours Oxford United. He made 55 appearances in yellow and will be fondly remember by U’s fans for scoring their winner in a televised FA Cup Second Round clash against fierce rivals Swindon Town in 2002. He was then captured naked live on television, joyously celebrating in the changing rooms as the U’s draw in the next round paired them with Arsenal, the team he supported as a boy.

We will be bringing you an interview with Louis next week as we get to know our new striker, his thoughts on signing for the Millers and what he hopes to bring to the squad. We will also be catching up with First Team manager Eddie Odhiambo this weekend and getting his thoughts on his latest addition.

On behalf of everyone at North Leigh Football Club, we would like to extend an extremely warm welcome to Jefferson!! We had a taste of your skills earlier in the season and we look forward to seeing more of that in yellow. We hope you enjoy your time with the club and wish you the very best of luck!!
