Boos for new pre-match ‘club anthem’ played out at QPR’s Loftus Road

There were some boos for a new pre-match ‘club anthem’ played out at QPR’s Loftus Road before the Cardiff game this week.

Queens Park Rangers used to play out The Clash’s song “London Calling” as their pre-match anthem right before kick-off.

But now it seems the song ‘Bleeding Blue & White’ by Cozy Joe has replaced it and hasn’t proved popular with the fanbase.

Jon Blower wrote via the QPR Pride Of London Facebook group ahead of the game: “Got to say I’m pretty excited for tonight’s match. The buzz around the club right now is something I haven’t seen in a long time.

“I’ve got a great playlist ready to play from start to finish and going to add in our new song before kick off. It’s really grown on me and think if we all got behind it it could give us something special to kick start the game and get the ground rocking from kick off!”

The song creators said in a video: “I’m Joe. That’s my brother Sam. And we are both long life QPR fans.

“We’re songwriters and we’ve been spending the last year working with QPR to create the perfect pre-match song.

“It’s playing tonight in the stadium for the first time, so please try and get behind it. It’s honestly a dream come true. We are so excited.

“We’ve seen a lot of people saying that it’s AI. It’s not. It’s not AI. We can assure you it is not AI. We wrote it, produced it, so yeah.”

The game itself meanwhile saw Rumarn Burrell score twice to make it 3 wins out of 4 for QPR, Perry Ng got a consolation for the Bluebirds.

QPR sit 2nd in the Championship table with 10 points from 4 games played, while Cardiff are 19th with 3 points from 4 games.

QPR’s Julien Stephan said after the game, as per Sky Sports:

“If you compare where we are now after four games and where we were last at the same moment (last season); big difference.

“It’s just the beginning of the Championship. If you forget that the Championship is a battle each game, you can drop very quickly.

“The objective is to stay humble – very humble – because if you forget to be humble then this league will kill you immediately.

“So we have to stay humble – but stay ambitious as well.”

Cardiff’s Brian Barry-Murphy:

“We obviously wanted a win, but it hasn’t happened yet. The players retain belief. I think we’re improving a lot. There are going to be setbacks along the way and we have to take that on the chin.

“Disappointed with the result, obviously. We weren’t at our best in the first half. Technically, we’re normally much better than that. We didn’t have the intensity we usually have.

“We had chances despite that, but we knew QPR were dangerous on the break – and they were. I think we showed signs of our quality in the second half, but it wasn’t enough.

“We knew how dangerous they would be, but we gave the ball away in certain areas, particularly centrally.

“Our players always keep going right until the end. We created chances late in the game, we just couldn’t take them.

“Even in the first half, when we weren’t at our best, we had good chances, but I can’t deny the fact that QPR also had good chances on the break and we obviously have to improve on that in this division.”
