Crystal Palace fans have request – which would help make atmosphere better – REFUSED by club’s CEO

Crystal Palace fans have a request – which would help make the matchday atmosphere better – REFUSED by the club’s CEO Sharon Lacey.

Their post has gone on to get over 430,000 views, 1,100 likes and caused quite the reaction amongst fans of other clubs in English football

On Sunday, Holmesdale Fanatics (@ultrascpfc) tweeted: Leeds (H). Ahead of the Zrinjski game, we asked the club to turn the music down pre-match so that Selhurst could support the team during the warm-up. This request was refused and we were told it wouldn’t be possible due to ‘UEFA regulations’.

This week, we followed up to ask if the music could be turned down ahead of the Leeds game. We, like lots of others, want to be able to build the famous atmosphere that the club spends so much time talking about without being drowned out by ear-splitting music. Sharon Lacey, CEO, refused this request again, telling us the club has a “production plan in place for matches so this will not be possible.”

It is clear now that the club is determined to keep trying to force an American style ‘experience’ on us.

We would encourage anyone who wants to urge the club to rethink to email customerservice@cpfc.co.uk. It’s time the club start listening to Palace fans.

At the weekend, Holmesdale Road also tweeted: “A history of protest. Football is more than 11 men kicking a ball around. At its best it is community, identity, belonging & tradition, but only if we keep it that way. Many of the games cornerstones were lost in this country long before the group started in 2005.

“All seater stadia, expensive tickets & non 3pm kick offs were all implemented by a game that prefers customers to supporters. These were largely brought in without a fight. Fans at a club or national level did little about these changes as they came in through the 90’s.

“The hedonism of the casual scene should have been followed by collectivism and socially aware terraces that defended the interests of fans. This didn’t happen and England now suffers the consequences.

“The solution has always been independant supporters groups, whether ultras or otherwise, autonomy is key. There is no value in a group that doesn’t speak against power, including against its own club and ownership when needed.

“The rise of singing sections & feeble groups improve surface level changes that mostly benefit those selling their product back to them. Many make nice club approved displays but don’t have the capacity or the bollocks to oppose what is wrong, especially at their own clubs.

“Palace fans have acted when needed on many issues. These have been as wide ranging as ticket prices, VAR, UEFA corruption, poor club management, kick off times, club backed crypto scams, the local council, safe standing the old bill.

“Whilst much has been lost, there is nothing to gain from moaning on the internet & remaining individuals. Fans must be the guardians of what is right or wrong in our game. To not do so is to let them take our birthright further away from us. Get organised, get active.”

Here’s how social media users reacted as Crystal Palace fans have their request – which would help make atmosphere better – REFUSED by the club’s CEO…

@TraMufc: Welcome to our world.. we’ve suspected there’s been a league-wide initiative in place for quite some time & this last 12 months its rapidly accelerated without any meaningful fan consultation https://x.com/TraMufc/status/1962407090216980638

@L_cpfc: Spot on. Fucking sick of hearing Luke Littlers walk out song before every game

@BlairMcNally1: The Americanisation of football needs to stop. The game has been killed in England because of it! Well done to HF for their efforts. Real fans 👏🏻

@mhardysport: So many atmospheres at grounds ruined now by endless, ear-splitting music. Good to see fans fighting back 👏👏

@SCFCJosh96: people who run football clubs seems obsessed with doing this sort of stuff to attract what are fundamentally non-fans

@Phillyconcarne: The music’s fucking shit and way too loud. One of my favourite things about that “The Hunt Is On” run under Allardyce was people getting in early and creating an atmosphere. Listen to the fucking fans and stop lying about everything. Apparently Newcastle turned their music down/off the other night to create an atmosphere so I’m not sure I believe the UEFA line either.

@Mark_CPFC: Sharon Lacey kills football and should be nowhere near our club. The fact that she was brought back tells you all you need to know about our board and what kind of club they want us to be…

@TCPalacePod: Bit by bit, the Palace culture/identity is being eroded. 👎 This isn’t Hollywood – it’s South London. 📍 #CPFC

@DaytrippingRed: Another clubs fans being given the same treatment of being ignored and the club choosing Americanisation tactics to sanitise their fanbase Music isn’t atmosphere, switch the fucking thing off if your own fanbase is asking so THEY can make the atmosphere. It’s not difficult.

@Anthony_Hornsby: Same is happening at the CBS arena. The awful dance music has replaced the Sky Blue Mix pre-match of all the songs we sing, WLADITT is miles before kick off, fireworks… it all sets a plastic tone and it’s no wonder the atmosphere has been poor recently. The club broke it. #pusb

@Wheddsta: Spot on. Shite football aside, going to home games now is crap. Absolutely everything about the pre-match, half time and post match “production plan” is plastic nonsense. Sharon Lacey, get out of our club.

@SH20CPFC: Been saying it for a while now. Top flight football is aimed at the casual fan and TV audience than the die hard passionate fans. Been going that way more & more each year. Lacey is a stain on our club that is only leading the club in that direction at an accelerated pace.

@CPFC_SM: Whether you agree or disagree with the HF, this is absolutely spot on. Our pre match ‘shows’ are utterly horrific. Firework displays in the day time, shite music need to be binned.

@_GeorgeCPFC_: The club is losing its soul, ridiculously loud music before the game, to long glad all over after a goal, to the flag bearers being back and many more. Going to Selhurst isn’t enjoyable anymore and just gets worse, not surprised it was empty today. Selhurst’s identity gone. #CPFC
