Crystal Palace fans call for Oliver Glasner to go after 1-1 draw with Zrinjski

Crystal Palace fans call for Oliver Glasner to go after a 1-1 draw with Zrinjski in the first leg of the Conference League knockout play-off.

Ismaila Sarr put Palace ahead on the 43rd minute with a curled finish, before Zrinjski levelled early in the second half (55th minute) through Karlo Abramovic, jumping on a sloppy pass from Adam Wharton.

Palace dominated with over 70% possession, but failed to convert from their chances, having an offside-disallowed goal earlier in the game and saw Wharton strike the woodwork.

They also survived a late VAR-checked penalty appeal for handball against Daniel Munoz.

The result sees them with just one win in 15 games, while also sliding down the Premier League table, early cup exits, and key departures, as well as the impending exit at season’s end.

Oliver Glasner speaking after the 1-1 draw at Zrinjski in the Europa Conference League, firstly on an injury to Maxence Lacroix, which forced the defender off on 64 minutes: “I don’t know the level. You have to make a substitution due to a muscle problem. Hopefully it’s not too bad as Riad had cramp at the end – he’s just come back. Lerma is out, so now we have to be very creative to find the right players for these positions.”

On the game, where Palace surrendered their lead but had 72% of the ball: “It was the same against Burnley, controlling the game with the lead and then we made two easy mistakes.

“Even when you see all the opportunities, we always had an overload but then we can’t defend the one-v-one.

“Lerma is injured, we play with a 19-year-old, with a 21-year-old who was injured for 18 months and Chris Richards, so we see they are not in the best rhythm.

“When you have the lead like today and controlling the game, just don’t give them these easy opportunities. We have to be very self critical today. We controlled the game like against Burnley but we gave away the momentum with easy mistakes. Maybe that’s what we have to learn, with a few young players in defence the learning should be quick.

“They are well organised in defence, good on transitions and this is what we will analyse. In attack it was a little bit too slow. Sometimes it’s a lack of creativity in attack and we miss runs in behind. When we did this we were dangerous and created chances.

“We were very dominant. But it’s not just having possession. We need to be more dominant into the box.”

“It’s about keeping spirits high,” Palace keeper Dean Henderson told TNT Sports. “We’ve been in tough moments before and come out the other end. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel, so we’ve got to rally around each other.””The team spirit is growing. We’ve got some new players in now and some new energy, which is nice. We’ve got to play with more confidence and not let the doom and gloom get on top of us.

“It’s not going to be easy. It’s not just going to be given to us. We can’t just expect to turn up and win three, 4-0. It’s as simple as that. We’ve got to learn from it.

“The AEK Larnaca game was the one which opened our eyes to it. We’ve got to play at our best tempo, and make sure we give it our best shot.”

“I’m a little disappointed because after controlling the game we gave away the momentum too easily through our own mistakes.

“That made it more difficult than it should have been. It is level at half-time in the tie, and we have to raise our level. Zrinjski did not surprise us, they played as we expected, very organised and physical. I expect a similar game in the second leg with a deep block and transitions.”

“Palace have struggled with a lack of leaders in this group since Marc Guehi left so what they need now are leaders from the front,” Lucy Ward said on commentary duty for TNT Sports.

“They’ve gone from one of the Premier League’s feel-good stories last season to one that is struggling for momentum and direction.”

Here’s how social media users reacted as Crystal Palace fans call for Oliver Glasner to go after a 1-1 draw with Zrinjski…

@JimmyBeam04: Get Glasner out. Don’t wait till the morning, right now, get him gone.

@GottaBigMouth: Utterly utterly pathetic. Glasner has without a doubt lost that dressing room. It’s so painful. He wants to get sacked so he gets paid. Talk about self sabotage.

@RyanHornsby: Lucky to escape with a draw. I was a firm believer of keeping Glasner until the very end, but he has to go now. It’s becoming increasingly clear that none of the players want to play under him anymore. No trust in him. We’re turning into the laughing stock of English football.

@CPFC_NEWera: Hes got to go. Fredrikstad x 2. Kups. AEK Larnaca. Macclesfield. Mostar. We HAVE to play a different way against these sides, 6 times we have played the same way and its so obvious it doesnt work! Its ridiculous. He has to go before our season unravels completely

@CPFCHQ: Glasner has to go. We need something new. #CPFC

@maxpalace03: You cannot sit here and blame the board for these results. Dont care what you say. The board aren’t the reason we can’t beat teams like Mostar, Macclesfield, Larnaca, KuPS, Burnley etc. This is purely down to poor management and if you can’t see that give your head a wobble #cpfc

@ring088: Not surprised, Glasner has said in a couple of interviews he is leaving because he can’t give the club 100%. This showed with his starting line up and strange subs. We need a change and need it now

@simon_pizzey: Glasner out! @CEO4TAG @Mark__Bright act now and sack Glasner. We will not progress in the Conference League and will not beat Wolves with him in post. Glasner out!

@shave_stuart: I don’t think I’ve ever been more depressed about Palace than right now. It’s the fact that we were on such a high and doing so well and how it’s all come crashing down so quickly with the same people. How does that happen! We’ll come through it, but it’s tough right now. #cpfc
