Coventry v Birmingham sees police lash out at fans; stadium toilets damaged, pitch invaders caught

Coventry v Birmingham sees police lash out at fans; stadium toilets damaged, pitch invaders caught with footage surfacing.

It was a huge turnout for the Championship fixture at the Coventry Building Society Arena, but sadly it was partially marred by trouble that played out in and around the ground.

Along with videos, BSHLOut (@TTAOut) tweeted: “@WMPolice Hi, I hope you understand that I was recording for media purposes and I caught these clips (THERES A FEW).

“I then got hurt by a hit to the leg whilst filming a documentary for the blues. It hurt by the way.

“Video 1: Badge no# 2130
Video 2: Badge no# 4639

“I was here to record a documentary not cause trouble and I am injured.

“Care for more because there plenty? Punches thrown by the police and not ticket holders.

“This all started because an old man was struggling to keep up with the crowd. I am sure the body cam footage requested will show all of it!”

Meanwhile, photos have emerged showing how Birmingham fans left the toilets in the away end at Coventry City, with it in quite a state, warning for what you’re about to see.

We also saw yet another incident regarding fans invading the pitch, happening once again, with the culprits taken away by security/stewards.

The game itself saw Coventry City go closer to securing a Championship playoff place after a win at home over Birmingham City.

Just three minutes in, Coventry took the lead after Viktor Gyokeres cut in to the box and gave the ball too Eccles scoring his first senior goal at the edge of the area.

Sky Blues’ top scorer Gyokeres doubled the Sky Blues’ lead just before the break, after the ball struck the arm of Wales midfielder Jordan James.

The Swedish forward had another ruled out due for offside. But Coventry did enough for the three points. They can secure a place in the top six if they beat Middlesbrough next Monday.

Mark Robins will take his team to Teesside for the last day of the campaign in superb form, having won their 11th match at home, meaning they have now only lost one match in 16 league games.

Coventry’s Mark Robins said: “Right from minute one. It helps when you grab an early goal. It was a really good move, Josh did really well to get into the box and side foot it into the net.

“The crowd was noisy, really loud today so it was good to get our noses in front. They are a difficult side to play against, obviously they got some good players and good players on the bench who can change the game.

“We took charge of the game right from the first minute, through the whole game and I thought we were on top. They had bits of moments but we defended the set pieces and the long throws. I do not know why they stopped using the long throws, maybe there was an injury to Roberts, I do not know.

“To win it is great. The local derby, the first time we have beaten them here as well. I think we drew here last year which was disappointing at the time. There was a lot of really good football today and we have come away on the end of a really good performance and result.

“There was no fear today. There was no special mentions. They are not stupid. We did not prepare differently, the lads just got on with it because they know what they can do. We spoke about the performance and the three points.

“Another good day’s work and another clean sheet. There was so many good performances.

“I thought Gus was excellent again. Viktor was a handful all afternoon even when he got a knock on his ankle and hopefully, we can settle that down.

“Matty Godden worked again selflessly and tirelessly, I thought he did really well. The two were unlucky to not get a goal or two more. I thought them two and Josh Eccles, Gus and Liam Kelly behind them, were all fantastic going forward. The perfect overall performance.

“Kelly got a cut on his head so it needed bandaging up. It was just a brilliant day really, not that he has a cut on his head obviously! The fact we have done what we have done.

“Brooke did very well I thought, Bidwell as well on the other side. They looked comfortable, the whole back five dealt with everything, marshalled everything that they threw at us. Jutkiewicz is a real handful and he has been up on confidence recently, he has played some games and scored a couple as well.”

Birmingham boss John Eustace said: “Of course, we did [need to ride that early storm]. We started on the front foot and we played in the right areas, but when you are under pressure you have got to defend for your lives and we have done that a lot of times this year.

“But that first 15 minutes wasn’t good enough. I am really disappointed with the manner that we conceded that goal.

“”We’re a team that matches the opposition’s intensity when we play against them and at the start of the game we just weren’t at the races. We didn’t match their intensity, which is the disappointing thing, and to go a goal down against a top team in the league who are in a real good moment is tough.

“The penalty decision which came just before half-time I thought was extremely harsh, then it’s obviously always a tough task to go in 2-0 down before half-time. In the second half, fair play to the boys, we huffed and puffed without really causing them any problems. It was a tough afternoon.”

This is how Twitter users reacted as Coventry v Birmingham sees police lash out at fans; stadium toilets damaged, and pitch invaders caught…

@robtaylor58: Have to say, the way the game was policed was a disgrace, treated like scum, even worse inside, created such a bad atmosphere, need to learn how to police with respect.

@Cameron_Avfc: This is shocking from them. Hope you’re alright

@gflaves: If you cause trouble at any football match you deserve to be arrested and dealt with for a public order crime this is not acceptable with families who want to go to the game you cannot blame police for what they see in front of them

@jackowenn8: Two of my pals, over the top policing yet again whilst the real trouble was round the corner 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 great policing

@barbs_paul: That woman at the end gave me and my 10 year old lad a mouthful, because we were trying to get to the train station!

@PRH0121: Absolute cowards, losing respect by the day with decent folk

@samturner1875: Needs to be an enquiry into the policing in football matches absolute disgrace @WMPolice sort your shit out

@TBluenose:
This is disgusting behaviour from the police.
The person filming moved away and the woman still hit with the batton.
There is no need to be that aggressive.
I hope something is done about it.

@mottsdude: Totally out of control

@nanjayman: Shame they don’t act this way with those illegally blocking roads to protest. Two tier policing!

@cra1gbluenose: This is bad don’t get me wrong but the fact they have to even do this shows how bad a few football fans have become , it’s not like this in a fair few places around Europe etc . Poor training and bad crowds = problems

@ian_mccann18: ACAB

@BcfcDean1: Old bill were on a huge power trip today!

@GiblinTez: Disgusting buddy. Over the top policing. Left the real trouble go ahead and stayed away from it. Instead picking off what they could. 1 even pulling hair ffs

@Toejoemills: I swear, if a police officer shouts “move away” waving a big black stick. I’m moving quicker than that 😂

@WTFox1884:
“Move away”
So you move away…
She strikes you anyway.
Jesus wept.

@DanJackson_LDS: Worse firm in the country, always will be 🤷‍♂️😤

@Bcfcholly: Multiple fractures to the face. Waiting to see if surgery is required. Football fans are treated like absolute vermin by these bullies who abuse their power. @WMPolice disgusting from you guys as usual. 🐀

@2022benclay:
Go looking for trouble you will find it
No sympathy at tall
