It has been revealed that the phoenix club to Bury has submitted their application to the North West Counties Football League.

As mentioned by broadcast journalist for BBC Radio Manchester Sport, the plan includes a business model, a community model and information in relation to groundsharing.

The name of the club is planned to be Bury AFC and an application to the NWCFL has been made.

The Shakers were removed from the EFL back in August after they failed to provide financial guarantees and the collapse of a takeover bid.

LEAGUE STATEMENT:

“The North West Counties Football League on Tuesday received an application from a newly formed club, Bury AFC, for membership of the League for Season 2020/21.

“The application has been received as per the regulations of The National League System. The League will be working with the club, The FA and other interested parties in progressing the application. At this stage, we are reviewing the application and supporting documents.

“The League’s Board of Directors will meet to discuss the application and whether, as this is an application from a newly formed club, to support the application ahead of the FA deadline of 1st February 2020.

“The League will be making no further comment at this stage.”

Whilst all of this is going on, entrepreneur Robert Benwell has claimed he has no plans to buy another club and relocate them to Gigg Lane in order to resurrect Bury.

Benwell released a statement last week saying he intends to bring football back to the town and is set to talk to the fans in Thursday’s meeting on his proposals.

Bury FC are to appear at court on Wednesday to face a winding up petition served by HM Revenue & Customs over the unpaid tax bill.

They were handed a two-week extension by the judge for “processing of returns” after the case had been adjourned to after it came to light that they had had paid too much tax.

The North West Counties Football League is situated as the ninth and tenth tier of the English football pyramid.
