It’s getting more and more worrying for Bolton Wanderers now after it’s claimed that their club’s Championship clash against Millwall is in doubt of going ahead.
It comes just 24 hours after Wanderers were forced to closed their training ground with staff being told not to come in due to due to lack of food, drink, supplies and diesel for the generator.
One ‘insider’ said as quoted by the Daily Mail: “There are others who are trying to get by and who feel too proud to ask, but the longer this goes on, the harder it is getting for them.”
Staff have not been paid their wages for February, which were due last week and now some of them are having to ask around in order to be able to travel to work and eat.
Now more news has been revealed that the catering company are threatening to pull out of the game as they and the matchday staff should have paid £250,000.
A statement from the Bolton part-time staff, which was released to the BBC, read: “As can be expected morale is low, this is a workforce of worried and upset staff. There has been no information as to what is happening about our wages and jobs, and we do not know if we will have enough staff to open the gates on Saturday.
“Some members of staff will attend the match on Saturday and we respect the decision of the other staff that won’t, as is their right.
“Part-time staff had to find out from social media that they are not being paid. There were no apologies, no explanations, nothing! At least the full-time staff had an email on Friday.
“We pray the situation is resolved as soon as possible so we can get our football club’s name out of the mud and get back to supporting players and being there for the wonderful fans of this wonderful football club.”
Jim White apparently called Ken Anderson last night with claims the chairman told him: “I can’t speak, I’m watching football (Sheffield derby) on the TV. I’m with friends.”
Despite the training ground closure to players and staff yesterday – not first team however as they had a day off – Clayton Donaldson today revealed on his Instagram story that the squad are back in training today.
Greater Manchester Police’s Inspector Colette Rose said to Sky Sports: “We will always work closely with all of our football clubs across Greater Manchester to ensure fixtures can take place in a safe and enjoyable manner, and we have a proven track record of this.
“We seek to be flexible and supportive in our approach, and we fully understand the important role football clubs play in our communities. However, we need to ensure public money is spent appropriately and recovered fully when police deployments are made in support of private businesses.
“As we are continuously working with our clubs, we will always try and find ways to work with them to meet the payments they owe us. In reference to Bolton Wanderers, we are continuing negotiations with the club to settle amounts owed to GMP for match day services.”
Whilst everyone connected to Bolton wait for a takeover of the club, with owner Ken Anderson saying that it close to happening, they are due to appear in court to face a winding-up petition which was issued to them.
Football fans including many of Bolton tagged their club’s username into their tweets of concerns as well as the news filtered out – check out what they had to say on the next page.
