Wayne Lineker speaks for first time on being punched by thug in Ibiza after trying to protect girl

Wayne Lineker speaks for the first time as a video showed the 62 year old being punched by a thug in Ibiza after trying to protect a girl.

Footage uploaded onto Twitter on Wednesday (12 June), sees Wayne falling to the ground after being hit while trying to defend a female friend during a night out.

The incident occurred outside the Eden Bar, where witnesses say Wayne was unconscious for approximately six minutes with blood coming from his mouth.

In the footage, Wayne is seen raising his arm to shield himself from an attacker. Subsequently, a group of around 10 people, including Wayne, engage in a heated argument.

He said in a Instagram post on Thursday morning (13 June): “I wanted to write this post to let everyone know that I’m doing ok… I have a few stitches and a swollen lip.

“It could have been much worse so I count myself very fortunate I wasn’t standing 2 yards further back, as my head would have impacted the wall.

“Obviously the video is very disturbing to see especially for my family.

“The papers were very accurate and it was a simple case of me just trying to protect a girl from being harassed.

“Thank you everyone for all your messages of concern the support has been really overwhelming 🙏🧡

“Special thanks to @dannyonions_ for looking after me and insisting I go to hospital. Taking hours of his time and driving me home. A true friend.”

George Lineker, Gary’s son, commented: “Lowest of the low.”

Tia Lineker, Wayne’s daughter: “Jealous humans are the scum of the earth. Karma will get him. We love you so much dad 🤍”

Ex-footballer turned pundit Jamie O’Hara said: “Jealousy the main root for this mate glad your ok, gutted I wasn’t there to help x”

DJ Nathan Dawe wrote: “Only one @waynelineker ❤️”

Ex-Geordie Shore member Chloe commented: “Love you so much 😢 if I was there I would have went mad 😡 so angry about what’s happened!!!!”

Vicky Pattison: “You’re a true gentleman Wayne 🥹 Wishing you a speedy recovery 💕”

Scott from Geordie Shore: “Sorry to see that mate! Hope you’re ok! Love you too bits 💙 il be back over soon 😎”

One witness said to The Sun the two men had started arguing after the attacker and his mates began pestering Wayne’s female pal, in her 20s.

As Wayne tried to get a taxi, the man – with a group of six friends – squared up to him and slammed the door shut.

Moments later, he then hits Wayne in the chin and quickly makes his way away from the scene.

It’s said that he was knocked out at around 4.04am. before coming back around around six minutes later at 4.10am.

An 18-year-old Welsh student who saw what happened said, per The Sun: “It was horrible – he looked like he could have been dead at one point.

“Wayne just fell on the floor and the man and his friends ran off. He was completely unconscious.

“He wasn’t really speaking much when he did eventually come back round.

“I stayed to help him and the police turned up but they weren’t there for long and didn’t really do much and left quickly.”

Wayne eventually left in a taxi around an hour after the punch was thrown.

Social media users gave their reaction as Wayne Lineker speaks for first time on being punched by a thug in Ibiza after trying to protect a girl…

@jonnyescott: On a serious note, does anyone know if Wayne Lineker’s alright? The back of the geezer’s head bounced off the deck like a beach ball and everyone’s just taking the piss. People have died from less than that

@izzyformula1: if you like Wayne Lineker or not… punching or knocking people out on the street/road is never ok. he is 60 odd years old! it’s insane to me that people think him being knocked out is ok. you may hate his guts but that doesn’t mean it’s ok what happened to him.

@LCFC_Matchworn: I hope @waynelineker is doing ok. The online hate is wild. Regardless of weather or not you like the personality of someone you never met and do not know, no one should be assaulted. It’s disgusting and the hate is mostly born out of jealousy and envy for a man’s success.

@PaulaAdey: That lad has made a huge mistake. Small island and Lineker is well connected.

@ian0985: That brief moment of trying to look big in front your mates and onlookers and it could of ended in a prison sentence if that head impact had killed him. Fucking pathetic, is it really worth it. No fan of Wayne Lineker but that’s a young bloke and 62 year old.

@jasonmcork: Shocking behaviour. At the end of the day no matter how hard or young he tries to be, he’s a 60 year old man. Absolutely horrific.

@steveessexxx: Hope he’s caught and charged

@craigaddz: Fucking terrible this!!!!

@billyormond: Out of order that like

@MitchHalley:  I have my opinions on Wayne Linekar but you can’t just go around punching people because you don’t like them or in this case probably because the kids jealous. Proper coward move that and he’s 62 years of age FFS.

@CallumG271101: Bloke best get out of Ibiza sharpish or he won’t be coming home 😅😅

@JameswhufcJones: Not the smartest of moves clumping someone like him on a tiny island… Long few days in hiding for the lad

countrylifewith__jo: Terrible situation and glad your ok and on mend xxx
