Warrington Town wow fans on Friday by signing ex-Liverpool, Derby, West Brom, Norwich and Red Bull Salzburg player Andre Wisdom.
The ex-Premier League footballer was most recently at Derby County, but his contract expired at the end of the 2020-21 season, and although he trained with the then-financially struggling club ahead of the 2021–22 season, he didn’t re-sign.
After his release by the Rams, Wisdom trialled with the likes of Portsmouth, Birmingham, Sheffield United and Polish club Warta Poznań.
His new side Warrington Town, currently sit 17th as newcomers to the National League North (sixth tier), so far picking up 10 points from 9 games. They are five points from the playoff places and two points above the drop zone.
A wise signing! 🤩✍️

CLUB STATEMENT:
Warrington Town have signed former Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom ahead of this weekend’s home game against King’s Lynn Town.
Wisdom, 30, made 22 appearances for the Reds after coming through their youth system, and went on to play in the Premier League for West Brom and Norwich City.
He was most recently with Derby County, spending four seasons in the Championship before departing in the summer of 2021 amidst the club’s financial problems.
The Leeds-born right-back or centre-back has been training with the Yellows in recent weeks and has now penned a deal to join the club.
Earlier in his career, Wisdom was part of the England squad that won the UEFA European Under 17s Championship in 2010.
While at Liverpool, he spent time on loan in the Austrian Bundesliga with Red Bull Salzburg. In total, he has made more than 200 professional appearances.
Back in June 2020, he was taken to hospital after being stabbed in an “unprovoked assault and robbery” while visiting relatives in Toxteth, Liverpool.
He spoke about the incident, which saw him refuse to hand over his watch to the thieves.
“I was at a place where I shouldn’t have been – at a party,” Wisdom told the Beautiful Game Podcast.
“But I think the time of year, as it was lockdown, I was quite eager to get out outside a bit without doing too much.
“When I was leaving there were, like five guys, with balaclavas, knives and said ‘give me your watch’.
“I said ‘no’ so what else happens? We start fighting and yeah that was it. I drove home after the incident and then I realised I’ve been stabbed multiple times.”
Wisdom was questioned if he had attended the party by himself, to which he replied: “Loads of people came out the party after five minutes of wrestling and they’ve ran off.
“I’m covered in blood in the street and I’m just like ‘f*** sake,’ gone home and rang the ambulance from my house.”
After being stabbed, he claimed he was ‘not the same’ in his football career.
He added: “It was frustrating as, when I’ve come out of hospital, after three days, I had a couple of operations. It was like my body just wasn’t the same.
“I tried to get back into football and it wasn’t the same, I wasn’t getting the same output in terms of power or speed.
“It was hard to take and with that comes a lot of other niggles. I got stabbed in the head I got headaches. A little cut here (points to his chest) I couldn’t breathe that well when I came out of hospital because I had fluid on my lungs.
“I think I rushed coming back to football. So once I could walk, which was like three weeks I went straight back to football. As men we get ahead of ourselves. I played two games and I wasn’t right and my ego wouldn’t let me accept it.
“It was the last year of my contract and Derby were going through the financial issues so I remember speaking to my agent at the time I was like I’m going to play so I’m in the shop window and then rest in the summer. Then I ripped my groin.”
After time away from the pitch, he’s gone on to invest in property and entered a venture with his first club.
“Started doing property. I’ve got some houses I rent to Liverpool and they put some of the young players in there when they come from different cities, X, Y and Z. And their families live in some of my houses.”
Here he is scoring late on for Derby against Wycombe (skip to the end)…
