Unemployed 54 year old boss spotted watching Cardiff lose at Fulham

On Wednesday night, one particular unemployed 54 year old boss was spotted in the stands watching Cardiff City lose at Fulham.

According to journalist Justin Allen, former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder was in attendance as the Bluebirds fell to a seventh consecutive defeat after being beaten at Craven Cottage last night.

It fair to say that Mick McCarthy has been under serious pressure of late due to the poor run they’re currently enduring, which included a 3-0 derby day defeat to Swansea City on Sunday afternoon.

Whilst speculation continues over McCarthy’s stay at the club, Wilder seemed to be an interested onlooker as the Cottagers ran out 2-0 winners.

If McCarthy was to depart, Wilder could be seen as the ideal candidate to the club, mainly because he has proven himself at this level in the past after winning promotion with the Blades.

Another report issued this week claims a board meeting was held by Cardiff, with the current manager given this week’s games against Fulham and Middlesbrough to prove he has what it takes to turn their form around… though it’s not looking good so far.

Mick McCarthy spoke of his disappointment after his Bluebirds side put on a spirited display against Fulham, with Cardiff sitting 21st in the Championship table with 11 points from 13 games played.

“It leaves me on the back end of a really horrible run of results,” he said when asked where this defeat leaves him.

“And if football is true to its usual stuff then we know what happens.

“I came in on the back of a defeat by Swansea, we’ve certainly had a much better performance, and I’ll be doing exactly the same for Middlesbrough unless I’m told different.

“I can’t do any more than what I’m doing. I certainly can’t try harder than I am. TC and I are giving it everything.”

McCarthy has spoken about meetings with CEO Ken Choo Tan and chairman Mehmet Dalman, but when asked whether he had been in talks with owner Vincent Tan, he replied: “I’ve had two or three conversations with Vincent, yes, but you will appreciate that, the fact that I’ve had them, I’m not going to tell you what was said.”

McCarthy, though, said he has everyone behind him and rooting for him to spark some sort of upsurge in fortunes in the coming days.

“Everyone who asks me how I’m doing, I say, ‘Great, my family are well, everything is fine except football results’,” the manager said.

“Unfortunately for me, 90 percent of my life is football and football results, so you can tell how I’m feeling.

“Thankfully, I’ve got a really good support network with my wife, Fiona, and everyone else behind me. And the staff and the players, they proved that today.

“I was asked at the weekend if they had stopped playing for me, if I’d lost the dressing room, which I think is ridiculous, and that tonight showed I certainly haven’t.

“But I feel pretty lousy because I don’t like getting beaten.”

On the game, McCarthy said: “It was a vast improvement on performance. The players know that as well.

“If we perform like that against other teams, we’ll win games but I’m afraid Fulham were too good and too strong for us.

“In terms of having a go and their effort, I can’t criticise that at all. It was a much better performance.”

“We know Rubin has been in and everyone loves him, that was his best performance since Nottingham Forest, he grew into that,” McCarthy said when praising the youngsters.

“And Kieron Evans, I was delighted with his performance.

“There are some really good young players at the club coming through. Sam Bowen I thought had a decent game, up against a really good player, [Jean Michael] Seri. And I think there’s Eli King coming through and other bodies.

“There are good younguns, but we need some soldiers at the minute to get a result from somewhere.”

@ConnorFrieze1: God I fucking hope so

@Ryanelvin2411: Said to my Dad on Tuesday that he would be new Cardiff manager.

@CRob_online: As much as it like him to be manager we all know tan is going to go for the cheap option again 🙄

@IanAdams44: I bet he’s already had a hang in picking this team 😜

@WildthingJ74: Yes please. Was the person I thought of immediately when it was obvious MM was dead man walking although doubt he would want to come to this shit show of a club.

@MattWilliams10: Absolutely no thanks

@pmr6627: I will drive him down if he wants 👍

@adriancurrie10: No doubt Steve Bruce will be in the frame.. Guaranteed..!

@bold_bellerin: If wilder joins I’ll spunk

@Flakeyyy95: Naughty, naughty you teasing me

@ellisccfc03: If we got Wilder that would be fucking amazing

@tommy_ccfc: yes please

@Travis_CCFC: Will he fuck

@BenxxCCFC: If we got Chris Wilder I would be so happy

@Chris14harris: Don’t do this to me

@_tomwalker10: Please 🙏🏼

@TomReek17: Yes fucking please.

@svendcarr17: Nothing to do with us but I think I’d cry if he came.

@morganedwards01: Why do people say shit like this? You can’t get me excited like that

@footiexmadx: Would love wilder

@IeuanG94: We all got a hard on for Chris Wilder right now but we all know we are getting Tony Pulis. It’s the hope that will kill Cardiff.

@ElWelshie: Honestly, very unsure on who Cardiff’s next manager might be. Morison in the interim would be decent to see what he can do, but doubt the board with go full time with him. Wilder would be alright to straighten the ship but not long term like we did Mick

@MrJHoban: Surely Mick McCarthy is sacked first thing, shouldn’t be at the training ground longer than 10 minutes in the morning. P45 being printed as we speak. Cardiff are an absolute shambles. Was Chris Wilder in the crowd tonight a sign of things to come?
