UEFA Europa League quarter-final and semi-final draws

The UEFA Europa League quarter-final, semi-final and final draws have been made this Friday lunchtime with English teams still in.

Premier League sides Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers remain in the competition along with Scottish giants Rangers, though Arsenal ended up getting knocked out.

In the Europa League, there are six last-16 ties where the second leg must still be played. The aggregate scores are in brackets: Man Utd v LASK (5-0), Wolves v Olympiakos (1-1), Bayer Leverkusen v Rangers (3-1), Copenhagen v Istanbul Basaksehir (0-1), Basel v Eintracht Frankfurt (3-0) and Shakhtar Donetsk v Wolfsburg (2-1).

Inter Milan v Getafe and Sevilla v Roma will take place as one-off matches in Germany.

Like for the Champions League, all Europa League ties will be one-off matches.

While the Champions League takes place in Lisbon, the Europa League ties will be held in Germany at Stadion Koln in Cologne (venue for the final), MSV Arena in Duisburg, Dusseldorf Arena in Dusseldorf and Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen.

When are the games?
Europa League last-16: August 5/6 (kick-off 5.55pm, 8pm BST)
Europa League quarter-finals: August 10/11 (8pm BST)
Europa League semi-finals: August 16/17 (8pm BST)
Europa League final: August 21 (8pm BST)

Should Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s side overcome Lask, which should be an easy job with the Red Devils 5-0 up, they will face the winners of Copenhagen or Istanbul Basaksehir.

If Man Utd were to make it through to the semi-finals, they would take on the winner of quarter-final 4, which will either be Wolves, Olympiakos, Copenhagen or Istanbul Basaksehir on the 16th or 17th August.

If Wolves can beat Olympiacos, they will face the winner of Sevilla and Roma, who are yet to play their last 16 first leg and will instead play a single tie in Germany, as quarter-final 4. This game will take place on either 10th or 11th August.

If Wolves were to make it through to the semi-finals, the Black Country outfit would take on the winner of quarter-final 2, which will either be Manchester United, Lask, Copenhagen or Istanbul Basaksehir, on 16th or 17th August.

THE QUARTER FINAL DRAW:

QF1: SHAKHTAR DONETSK or WOLFSBURG vs BASEL or EINTRACHT FRANKFURT
QF2: MAN UTD or LASK vs COPENHAGEN or ISTANBUL BASAKSEHIR
QF3: INTER MILAN/GETAFE vs BAYER LEVERKUSEN/RANGERS
QF4: WOLVES/OLYMPIAKOS vs SEVILLA/ROMA

THE SEMI FINAL DRAW:

Winner of QF4 v Winner of QF2
Winner of QF3 v Winner of QF1

THE FINAL DRAW:

The winner of semi-final one will be the ‘home’ team in the final against the winner of semi-final two.

The winner of the first semi-final, which could very well be Manchester United or Wolves, will be the home side in the Europa League final.

As the draw was being made, Nuno Espirito Santo won the Premier League Manager of the Month award for June.

His club wrote via their website: “Wolves returned to the Premier League with a bang in June, winning all three matches and keeping as many clean sheets.

“West Ham United, AFC Bournemouth and Aston Villa were defeated by Nuno’s side during a productive month for the old gold.

“The Portuguese was voted by supporters ahead of Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of Manchester United and Chelsea’s Frank Lampard.

“Nuno collected the award alongside staff who have paved the way for the first-team to return to the training ground in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.”
