Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk this week speaks on his future at the club after picking up their third straight loss against Preston.
The defeat for the Owls on Wednesday night saw them slip to three consecutive defeats for the first time since the turn of the year, and they now find themselves perilously close to the relegation zone given the possible points deduction looming over them.
Monk, who saw his team sitting at high as 3rd place in the Championship table as 2019 came to an end, has now shockingly only been able to pick up just 13 points from the last 57 available in the league – but if fans think he’s going to depart soon, they can think again.
Speaking to the media after the game, Garry Monk said: “It is, but I’m determined. That I can promise.
“As a manager you live and die by your results, and everything will be judged on that totally, but I’m determined to get it right. It needs a lot of work, a huge amount of work, and it needs patience.
“The demand from fans is always there at a big club like Sheffield Wednesday. The demand for wins, the demand for points on the board. The demand for everything going on around us is there. I’m determined to get that right.
“It’s a lot of work, but it’s work that I’m more than willing to do and want to do.”
Monk wants to see concentration levels in those critical moments of games improve so as not to undermine the good work of the team throughout.
“I know results are king and they have to improve in these four games,” he added during Friday morning’s virtual press conference.
“We have to roll our sleeves up better and get the job done. We have had teams under the cosh and in difficult positions but teams have been able to get through that period.
“You have to capitalise when on top and in good positions in games and then find a little more resolve and grit to dig in, in moments when we need to do.
“We have been in positions to take points but need to find a bit more resolve and grit.
“It is tough. It is difficult. We are in transition and there are a lot of things that need to be set right.
“We need to get results, we understand that and these lads work hard. There is no giving up in these games.
“There will always be moments in games where you are on top but it has been about that game management in the key moments.”
The Owls’ remaining fixtures are against Queens Park Rangers (A), Huddersfield Town (H), Fulham (A) and Middlesbrough (H).
Ahead of their game against Mark Warburton’s side, both have little to play for as the season draws to a close.
Both clubs go into the fixture following defeats in their most recent outings, with QPR suffering a 1-0 loss to Wigan Athletic and Wednesday subjected to a 3-1 home defeat to Preston North End.
QPR possible starting lineup:
Lumley; Kane, Barbet, Masterson, Manning; Amos, Cameron; Eze, Chair, Shodipo; Samuel
Sheffield Wednesday possible starting lineup:
Wildsmith; Palmer, Iorfa, Borner; Reach, Bannan, Lee, Luongo, Harris; Wickham, Nuhiu

In the last few weeks, Sheffield Wednesday began their legal battle with the EFL over breaching financial rules, but how many points could they be deducted?
The club strenuously deny the charge over breaching Profitability and Sustainability rules and because of the complexity of the case, it is likely the hearing will last for the rest of the week.
The charge relates to the sale of the club’s Hillsborough stadium to Chansiri for £60m in the 2017/18 season.
Wednesday have said they believe the charge to be “unlawful” and challenged the league’s decision.
The dispute has been going on since November 2019, and if the club are found guilty, the potential punishment ranges from a points deduction to a transfer embargo or fine.
It will be an independent commission that will impose it if at all, although they can also choose when to punishment, although reports claim it will be before the end of the season.
Garry Monk’s men are currently 16th in the Championship table, 7 points above the relegation zone.
The amount they could get deducted is to 12 points in respect of FFP, and it could be a further nine points in terms of how far Wednesday have assisted with the enquiry. A total of 21 points is the worst-case scenario.
Fans have given their reaction as the Sheffield Wednesday manager speaks on his future at the club…

Step one, get rid of Monk, he’s worse than his predecessor who was a disaster.
He’s the reason that players can’t wait to leave the club.— Kokojoe95 (@BillyPilgrim41) July 10, 2020
Well stop defending like idiots and grow a pair.

A run of results ? There’s 4 left! We need a bigger run than that! ?

‘….need to improve certain bits’. Brilliant, specific, confidence- inspiring analysis for fans who have witnessed a team bagging 13 points from a possible 57. Monk is the Matt Hancock of football management.

You might believe they are committed. I believe a significant number couldn’t care less as demonstrated by the abject spineless capitulations we’ve witnessed since Christmas. No pride in club or themselves.

Sheffield Wednesday need to wake up and smell the coffee. Neither Dawson or Wildsmith are up to it.
Get a proper keeper in for next season. Or better still? Play the proper keeper we are paying 30k a week to. #monkout— kenners? \/\//\\/\//\\/\/ ? (@robbiebebbie) July 9, 2020
