There were two red cards as tempers flare with Coalville Town and Boston United players in a huge melee and a fan slapped in the head.
It all over-boiled on the pitch just as the game was coming to an end, with alleged hair pulling led to chaotic few minutes just before the whistle blew for the FA Trophy tie to go to a penalty shootout.
Shockingly, the two group of players clashed, with a video showing pushing and pulling, shoving each other with fists thrown.
The scrap moved closer towards the stands, one fan can be seen with his hands up trying to stop the fight from breaking out into the supporters beside them, then in comes a player, slapping a fan in the head, leading to staff running over to calm the situation down.
Boston said in their match report: “Essien’s foul in stoppage time sparked a melee – with Doyle-Charles pulling the United midfielder’s hair. He was dismissed – and Essien followed, with two cautions (one for the foul and one for retaliation).”
Coalville wrote via their website: “As the game went into stoppage time at the end of the second half both sides were reduced to 10 men. Sam Essien fouled Ashley Carter who reacted to the late challenge. After a melee involving most of the players on the pitch Ravens skipper Joe Doyle-Charles was shown a red card and Essien was shown two yellows followed by a red.”

The game itself saw Jai Rowe have the away side ahead on the 61st minute, only for Coalville’s Elliot Putman to level the scoreline from the penalty spot 13 minutes later.
It was spot kicks that had to settle the game, with Boston netting their first four penalties in the shootout, but then Brad Nicholson and Jordan Richards missed the target, messing up a 4-2 lead to go on and lose 7-6.
