Check out the transfer talk for the Football League…

• Arsenal midfielder Matt Smith is close to joining Swindon on a season–long loan and is set to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms after a deal between the two clubs was agreed.

Birmingham have joined Coventry and Stoke in the race to sign Ipswich striker Kayden Jackson. The 26-year-old was in talks over a new deal at Ipswich but the introduction of the salary cap has ended discussions.

Rotherham have made a season-long loan offer to Chelsea for goalkeeper Jamal Blackman.

Bournemouth have reluctantly accepted an £18.5m offer from Sheffield United for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. However, while the transfer fee has been agreed between the two clubs, it’s understood that Ramsdale’s personal terms with United are still to be negotiated.

•  Burnley. Also trying for Joe Worrall at Forest. Would swap Ben Gibson if it worked. Worrall would want to know first team prospects. Sheff U also still keen on him for squad too.

• Sunderland. Very keen on Remi Matthews. Ex Bolton. Ipswich would take him too. Parkinson turned to him as Sarkic loan deal from Wolves dearer than wanted.

• Fleetwood. Also taking a look at keeper Joel Coleman after he left Huddersfield.

• Swindon. Keen to sign keeper Baxter from Chelsea on loan for season. Costly all the same. Need a favour.

•  Newcastle. Birmingham. Karl Darlow deal difficult just now but could change if Bruce lands a keeper. Blues will have to dig deep even for a loan all the same.

• Coventry. Trying hard for Sheaf to come from Arsenal. Willing to push the boat out on fee and terms.

• Blackburn, Taking a big interest in big Philipp Hofmann at Karlsruhe. Tall striker who was at Brentford. Will come down to the cost.

• Doncaster. Waiting anxiously on loan deal for keeper Bursik from Stoke. They have issues with one of theirs possibly leaving. Holding things up a tad.

• Bournemouth’s Joshua King has emerged as a target for Portuguese giants Benfica, however the newly relegated side don’t want to lose him. PSG, Lazio, Roma, Newcastle, Everton, Brighton, Burnley, Man Utd, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Leeds, Tottenham, Chelsea and other unnamed sides are also keen on signing him.

• Watford left-back Pervis Estupinan is wanted by Tottenham and Barcelona and rated at £15m – even though he has never kicked a ball for the Hornets.

• Aston Villa and West Brom will do battle to sign Michael Obafemi from Southampton for £10m.

• Fulham are ready to offer Wigan’s Antonee Robinson a stunning contract to win the race for his signature.

• Chelsea and Everton are eyeing Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster. The former England stopper is still one of the most wanted men around despite his age and the Hornets going down to the Championship.

• Rangers are keeping close tabs on Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy. Stoke, Derby, Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough also want him.

• Leeds United could face competition for Brentford’s star player Said Benrahma from Crystal Palace for a reduced fee of around £12-15million. Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal, Leeds, West Ham and Aston Villa also interested.

• Aston Villa are set to ‘ramp up’ their pursuit of Brentford striker Ollie Watkins, according to reports in the midlands. Talks will continue when he returns from his holiday. He is also wanted by Crystal Palace, Leeds, Sheffield Utd and Aston Villa.

• Salford. Long keeper search now takes in Connor Ripley at Preston. May be available on loan.

• Villa. Keinan Davies and Preston thing on hold just now. But Villa very keen to spend, so that could change. Loan maybe later in window.

Newcastle are also interested in Oxford United defender and captain Rob Dickie, 24. Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, Fulham, Burnley and Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Derby also keen. (Sun on Sunday)

• Bristol City are competing with Championship rivals Middlesbrough for the signing of Wigan Athletic midfielder Joe Williams, according to reports. The Robins want to pay less than a “fixed fee”, but Boro’s involvement has raised Wigan’s expectation to £2.5m.

• Huddersfield Town have accepted a £4million bid from Egyptian Premier League outfit Pyramids FC for winger Ramadan Sobhi, Football Insider understands.

• Queens Park Rangers are closing in on securing a permanent deal to bring Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luke Amos back to the club with a three-year deal nearing competition, according to TalkSPORT.

• Leeds United prospect Leif Davis, 20, has been linked with Stoke City and Portsmouth on a season long loan.

• Fleetwood. Northampton still keen on Sowerby. No deal sorted just yet.

• Charlton’s director of football Steve Gallen says there has been no contact for striker Preston and Fulham linked Macauley Bonne along with goalkeeper Dillon Phillips who is wanted by Derby, Cardiff, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield.

• Steven Gerrard insists it would take an exceptional offer for Rangers to consider removing the ‘not for sale’ sign from Borna Barisic. Roma, Napoli and Leeds want him.

• Former Stevenage and Leeds United left back Tyler Denton was among the Exeter City players who were involved in a 2-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

• MK Dons are in talks with Man Utd’s 20-year-old defender Max Taylor over a loan move. Taylor was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2018 but recovered last year before earning his first call-up to the Red Devils’ senior side against Astana. Following his recovery, though, and a season with the U23 squad, Taylor is keen to get some regular first-team minutes.

• Tommy Smith featured for Colchester United in their home friendly against Gillingham on Saturday and appears likely to face Ipswich in their game against the U’s on Tuesday.

• Leeds United join Burnley, West Ham and West Brom in expressing an interest in signing Shane Duffy but his representatives have told Brighton that his first choice is a move to Celtic.
