The top six favourites to become new Tottenham manager as been revealed as Antonio Conte leaves his turbulent tenure.
The 53 year old Italian’s time at Spurs is over after 16 months. He has not been awarded any silverware that the club had gambled on when it appointed him.
Conte accepted the job in November 2021, which he initially declined in the summer. He delivered Champions League football to Spurs and was supported in the transfer market, although not as much as he would like.
He failed to win any cup competitions, and he also lost three of his closest friends, having top step away from the touchline at times.
After the draw at Southampton, his relationship with the club was strained to the breaking point when he launched a huge rant in which he called his players “selfish” as well as criticising the club’s culture for the past 20 years.
Tottenham currently sit fourth in the top flight but are out of all cup competitions already.
Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini will step up as head coach for the rest of the season, with former midfielder Ryan Mason his deputy.

In the 53 year old’s post-match press conference, he said, as per the Mirror: “We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, I see players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart.
“Being a team, it is the most important thing. To understand that we play for the badge. We have to play to make our fans proud of us. We have to pay to show desire. The fire in your eyes to win. If you have this , for sure, you don’t go out in FA Cup. Today you win.
“Here we’re used to it for a long time. The club has the responsibility for the transfer market, every coach that stayed here has the responsibility. And the players? The players? Where are the players? In my experience, I can tell you that if you want to be competitive, if you want to fight, you have to improve this aspect. And this aspect, I can tell you, in this moment is really, really low. And I see only 11 players that play for themselves.
Conte, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is expected to depart later this summer and with Chairman Daniel Levy inside the ground today’s the result is has no doubt made his mind up if not already.

Asked the uncertainty over his future was affecting the players, Conte replied: “You are finding an alibi, another alibi. You try to find an excuse for the players.
“Come on, come on, come on. We are professional. The club pay us a lot of money. The players receive money, me receive money, you understand? Not to find excuse or not show spirit or show a sense of belonging or don’t show a sense of responsibility because we are showing this.
“For me this is unacceptable because for me this is the first time in my career to see a situation like this. Until now I wasn’t able to change, not to change but compare to last season the situation went to become worse.
“Why is it happening? Because they are used to it here, they are used to it. They don’t play for something important yeah. They don’t want to play under pressure, they don’t want to play under stress. It is easy in this way. Tottenham’s story is this. 20 years there is the owner and they never won something but why?
“The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stay here. I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench.
“You risk to disrupt the figure of the manager and to protect the other situation in every moment. Until now I try to hide the situation but now no because I repeat I don’t want to see what I have seen today because this is unacceptable and also unacceptable for the fans. They follow us, pay the ticket and to see the team another time to have this type of performance is unacceptable. We have to think a lot about this.
“Until now I try to hide the situation but now, there are 10 games to go and some people think we can fight. Fight for what with his spirit, this attitude, this commitment? What? For seventh, eighth, 10th place? I am not used to this position. I’m really upset and everyone has to take their responsibility.
“Not only the club, the manager and the staff. The players have to be involved in this situation because it is time to change this situation if Tottenham want to change. If they want to continue in this way, they can change the manager, a lot of managers, but the situation cannot change. Believe me.”
Fans reacted as the favourites to become new Tottenham manager is revealed while Antonio Conte leaves his turbulent tenure…
@malex200311: Stellini in charge for the last 10 games isn’t the worst decision in the world. Would prefer him to mason
@JasonCCook: And the Spurs revolving door turns again. Same problem exists, but lets all pile on Conte. Time to move on even if we all know we’ll be in the same position in another 18 months.
@districtxx1: Quite relieved Stellini is taking over, But also suprised since hes been Conte’s assistant for years so I’d thought he’d leave with him. Considering him and Mason were the masterminds behind the city game, I do trust them and hope we bring Naglesmen or poch in the summer
@Jack_Madders1: My only gripe with Stellini taking the role until the end of the season is that he is likely to replicate Contes styles and team choices which means the next 2 months are going to be the exact same as the last 16 months?
@Darren20781396: Thanks for your efforts Antonio, qualifying for Champions League last season was a job well done…sadly tougher time this year. Good luck to everyone for the last 10 games of the season. Poch or Nagelsman arriving in the summer? COYS!!
@ThfcTrheim: Not a word from Levy about wishing him well in the future or the time he was here…..hmm. Surprised Stellini got the job until the end of the season, but I like it. Not positive on who’s gonna be our new manager though, and when….
@SpursGotLevyd:
Another winner unable to win under #LevyOut
Another wrong appointment from #LevyOut
Another manager fired by #LevyOut
15 managers, 22 years, 1 #LevyOut
@PBerkul: Imagine having the likes of Mourinho and Conte without winning a trophy. Yes the manager can make mistakes time to time but ultimately, the buck stops with Levy and Enic. Wouldn’t surprise me if they announced another concert straight after sacking Conte #levyout #enicout
@SwanseaSpur: Love to think that this will make any sort of a difference to anything but we all know it won’t. Looking forward to sacking the next manager in 18 months time.
@EverythingN17: Until Enic and levy go nothing is changing. It’s getting boring now. Sell up and let someone buy us who wants to invest in the team. Thanks for the shiny bowl but it’s time to go.
@jhudds: 3rd manager in a row that has questioned the board for not giving the managers what they promised to help the club move forward and been sacked…! The board are the problem!! Daniel Levy you Gru looking mother f@@ker get out of our club #Levyout #ENICOut
@HotspurIrish: There it is. So much optimism before this season. Antonio worked wonders to get us back to UCL last season. Really thought it would work. No bad blood, regardless of past few weeks. He wasn’t the issue. Wish him the best personally and professionally in future – Spurs march on
@mattpage2000: Honestly who even cares anymore 🤷♂️, il keep saying it until I’m blue in the face until levy/enic fuck off and leave nothing will change at our football club plain and simple. I’m tired of the same situation repeating itself. #LEVYOUT #ENICOUT
@THFCDeano_: regardless of how rough the ending was gave us some great memories last season & also called out the owners, thanks boss 🇮🇹
@FPLSteve: Took a while… No point in Spurs going back after Poch. He’s already proved he’s not the guy to deliver trophies to Tottenham and appointing him would be an admittance by the board that they don’t care about winning. They have to go all out for Nagelsmann in my opinion
@ZG1999_:
Sack rating: 8/10
– Ruthless, fucking ruthless.
– Full stop, adds to the finality (could’ve had statement)
– Perfect picture
– Timing great
It’s certainly different. A thumbs up from me
@TheLocalYidiot: Now let’s give Davies, Dier and Lloris new 3 year contract extension. Still don’t get why we ain’t getting a new manager in so he can see how shite they are and if he wants to keep them or sell them. Levy is still the biggest problem
For clarification, because it’s 10:30pm on a Sunday in the UK. Most people have gone to bed. Spurs admin had other ideas.
