The top six favourites to become new Crystal Palace manager has been revealed with Patrick Vieira sacked on Friday morning.
Palace has not won a single match since 2023. They were defeated 1-0 by Brighton on Wednesday, making it their third consecutive defeat.
They are currently 12th in the Premier League, but only three points behind Bournemouth (18th), who still have a game in their hands.
Vieira was appointed prior to the start of the last season and led the Eagles’ 12th-place finish, earning praise for his attacking style.
They have only scored 21 goals in 27 games this season however, which is less than Everton, Wolves and bottom-of the-table Southampton.
Palace had lost three consecutive games with no goal, proving to be the final nail in the coffin.
Vieira’s three coaching staff members – Osian Robs, Kristian Wilson, and Said Aigoun have all left the club.

CLUB STATEMENT:
Crystal Palace Football Club can confirm that Patrick Vieira has left his post as First Team Manager.
Three members of Patrick’s coaching staff – Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson and Saïd Aïgoun – have also left the club.
Chairman Steve Parish said: “It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made. Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position and we felt a change is necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status.
“That said, Patrick’s impact since joining us in the summer of 2021 has been significant, and he is held in the highest regard by myself, and all of his colleagues. He led the team to a Wembley FA Cup semi-final and respectable 12th placed finish last season playing some exciting football, which was a challenging and crucial campaign for the club given the changes we made to the squad prior to his arrival.
“Patrick has given his all to the club, and we all thank him and his team for their service.
“We also wish Patrick, Osian, Kristian and Saïd the very best for their futures.”
The process to appoint a new manager is underway, and we will provide an update in due course. Dean Kiely will remain as goalkeeping coach.

Patrick Vieira attributed Crystal Palace’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening to a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal.
The manager reflected: “When you look at all the aspects of the game, the way that we were organised, the discipline we had, how aggressive we were… I was pleased with that.
“I think we defended well and managed to win the ball in some really important parts of the field, but what let us down was our offensive play. Not taking the opportunities we created let us down today.
“The difference between the two teams was that they had one shot and managed to score. We had a lot of opportunities, we had chances, but we didn’t score. This was the issue for us.
“It’s not about showing more positivity, it’s about showing the ingredients you need to compete and to win football matches. The players worked hard and worked well and we had those opportunities. The difference between the two teams is they took their chances and we didn’t.
“This is the frustration I have because for parts of the game, the team, the players, did well.”
Vieira added: “We decided to press higher and showed a lot of positivity in the game but again not scoring those goals, not making those right decisions in an important part of the game and part of the field, let us down. This is the biggest frustration of tonight.
“I am concerned about scoring goals. When I look at the team’s performance today and I look at the work ethic and our organisation and how the players executed our plan, I was pleased with that.
“The worry I have is when you create those chances and you don’t take them. We have to score those goals. Our front players have to change their mindset. We have to be more aggressive going forward and in the last third.”
This is what fans said with the top six favourites to become new Crystal Palace manager revealed as Patrick Vieira is sacked…
@LandscapeMan: This is a real shame. The board have to shoulder some of the responsibility for not properly planning the transfer windows, esp finding someone to fill CGs boots, and dealing with the ongoing goal drought (which pre-dates Viera). But on balance the right decision. Bielsa please.
@GeorgeHilder5: Thank you Patrick but this was the time to go
@Adam_Palace: Proactive which is great. Let’s hope a replacement is lined up before Leicester 🦅
@BallaratPalace: Genuinely disappointed by this Palace. Vieira wasn’t blameless but he’s paid the price for not being backed in the last two transfer windows. If you stand still, you’re going backwards.
@nicksadler62: Gutted it hasn’t worked out 😭 Always came across as a good man
@APDobbs: Shame it didn’t work out. Always came across as a decent chap. Hope the rebuilding continues and not a stop gap with no long term vision
@lfs_18_: Cant lie, I am really sad. Thought Vieira would’ve been a new age for the club
@JBragz93: His tactics at times were questionable as were his team selections. However he gave me hope last year and an exiting team to watch. Ultimately he has be FAILED by the board.. thanks PV 🔴🔵
@Laleagles: I am very sad, maybe supporting him more with an experience back up may have helped. Anyway Thanks for last Season it was great and one l never forget. Super Pat Vieira ❤️💙
@morey28: Shame. I was hoping he could take us to the next level but he just didn’t seem to know how to galvanise the team or have a plan b? I personally thought he’d have at least 2 games after the arse-anal game to try & turn it around. All the best PV for the future
@mandyswagsta: Thank you for last season PV.. but this season has just not been good enough all the best for the future ❤️💙
@joelcpfc_: Good decision. Fans had turned on him and he proved he doesn’t have a plan B.
@chloefrancesv_x: This wasn’t the right decision imo. The board are the problem with not bringing in the players we desperately needed. What an absolute mess #CPFC
@Scarpenter_67: Enormous shock considering his popularity with fans and the entertaining football style he implemented. What do the club expect when competing with clubs that have unlimited funds and resources? #CPFC
@Nelson_Muntz23:
One win in 13.
21 goals in 27 games.
3 games without a shot on target.
5 points from 33 in 2023.
It’s enough to get anybody sacked.
Plus, no sign of a win coming, lacking passion on the touch line that was reflected in the team.
No plan B.
He had to go #cpfc
@SaminArthurWait: Now it’s actually happened people say we are worse off 🙈 the people who wanted him gone in the first place. How does it better our chances so close to the end of the season? It doesn’t. If they don’t already have a replacement ready to go then… good luck to us 👀 #CPFC
@BobHammond2: Sad to see Patrick Vieira leaving #cpfc after a promising start to his reign. Only crumb of comfort for me is that we’ll be facing all of our relegation rivals in the final 10 games of the season so our future is still very much in our own hands.
@cpfcjude: The board sold him a dream and made him promises, before ditching him at the first sign of trouble which would obviously happen due to a lack of investment. And whoever comes in next will get the exact same treatment. Crystal Palace Football Club will never progress. #cpfc
@OllieKing95: Very sad to see Pat leave. Last season had some incredible moments but the recent form has been undeniable. I pray they have someone lined up! #cpfc
@Alitheeagle1:
Really sad.
Lifted the mood of the club last season.
Some definite shortcomings exposed this season.
Hard fixture list didn’t help.
The board must take collective responsibility, the man wasn’t given the tools this season.
Thank you Patrick!
#CPFC
@richard1198: Not one manager I can think of I want in who is probably available but plenty on the list I don’t want anywhere near our club
Lampard
Gerrard
Benitez
Marsch
Bielsa
#cpfc
@raystratman: Sad to see Patrick Vieira being sacked- he initially brought us attractive football. Relegation was a possibility before, but now it seems a certainty. The Chairman must take a long, hard look at himself – it’s been clear all season that we needed new blood. #CPFC
@_YTCP_: Gutted for Vieira, granted he made mistakes but the real problems lie at boardroom level and until they are sorted this situation will just rinse and repeat #cpfc
@Spackers10: Writing was on the wall when he sacked Derry for firing into the players after 1 to many gutless performances (imagine Klopp, Arteta, Guardiola after 3 games with no shots on target 🤮) Shame as has attracted some top talent and we have been solid 🤷 Board not blameless. Messy #cpfc
@LeeCPDAFC: Not shocked but surprised at the timing. Expected this might happen after the Arsenal game. Disappointed it didn’t work out for Vieira but we can’t score goals, can’t win games & 3 points off the relegation zone with key fixtures against teams around us as of April 🔴🔵🦅 #CPFC
Horrible decision 🤡 you’ve had a tough run of games so what do you expect.. should have waited till this run and seen what happened pic.twitter.com/3QbWtOWx63

I think the overriding sense of sadness amongst Palace fans speaks volumes for how we felt about Patrick and the new lease of life that he gave us last season.
Let’s be clear – he made mistakes, but the people above him also need to take a long, hard look at themselves. #CPFC pic.twitter.com/q0Bc85wC8B
