In this article, we take a look at who Huddersfield Town want as their new manager with the role vacant following Sunday afternoon’s sacking.
Danny Cowley left League One Lincoln to join the the Championship strugglers in September, who at the time were 23rd in the table having failed to win any of their first six matches.
His last game in charge was Friday’s win over second-placed West Brom, which all-but confirmed the club’s survival.
In the meantime, it’s reported that they have approached Leeds United for their assistant coach Carlos Corberan, according to The Athletic.

The club said in on their statement about the sacking: “Huddersfield Town has relieved Danny Cowley of his duties as Manager.
Assistant Manager Nicky Cowley will also depart the Club immediately.
Huddersfield Town Chairman Phil Hodgkinson commented: “I would like to place my thanks on record to Danny and Nicky for their hard work and dedication towards securing the Club’s place in the Sky Bet Championship for next season. That was the clear priority when they were appointed in September and we are very grateful that has been achieved.
“We all wish Danny and Nicky all the best for the future and they leave with my best wishes in their future endeavours.
“However, we have made this decision in the belief that, in the long term, it is in the best interests of the Club as we move forward. We have a different vision for the way we operate the Club, and how our ambitions can be achieved.”

Tommy Elphick set to take charge of managerless Huddersfield for their final Championship game of the season against Millwall on Wednesday.
They confirmed on Monday lunchtime that Mark Hudson and John Iga have been relieved of their duties as First Team Coach and Head of Performance Services.
Corberan has been part of Marcelo Bielsa’s coaching staff since 2018 after joining the club back in 2017 as their Under 23s boss.
The 37-year-old is a highly rated Spaniard who has previously worked with Manuel Pellegrini and ex-Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde at Valencia.
Huddersfield now want him as their new manager and an approach has been made to Leeds seeking permission to hold talks with Corberan.
Leeds want to keep him as he is a valuable part of Bielsa’s staff and would ideally like him to be on their Premier League journey next season.
Bielsa’s contract is about to run out, however Leeds are planning immediate talks about an extension, it is understood Corberan’s is a long deal and would involve compensation.
But it is said that the West Yorkshire outfit will let Corberan go should he want to move on and fulfil his ambition to become a manager.
Corberán was hailed as “very talented” by Bielsa, with the promotion winning boss proclaiming he values Corberán’s opinion “more than his own”.
Corberán’s Leeds United 23s side won the PDL Northern League 2018–19 season by winning the league, they then became the national Professional Development League Champions by beating Birmingham City in the final.
In June 2019, it was reported that Corberán would be offered the head coach job at Spanish side Cultural Leonesa but he decided to stay at Leeds to remain under Bielsa.[8]

Fans reacted after seeing this is who Huddersfield want as their new manager…
Carlos is a great coach, he does deserve to be a first team manager after bringing the U23 lads in. Although after 1 season in the prem you’d expect him to be bielsa’s successor. For me a no brained situation, wait one year and see what happens.

fair enough, be a good move for him, likes to play football the right way, comes across as a well when inerviewed, would like him to stay, but he’s gotta look at his own career
— Sim (@1simmo1) July 20, 2020
I rather hoped he was in line to be Bielsa’s successor.

It would be nice to keep everybody for once.
— Christopher Ellis (@c_ellis92) July 20, 2020
Why would anyone want to go to that nothing club
— Mark ⚽️????(C) (@Slaven167) July 20, 2020
Ahhh I’m gutted about this. Got some real potential and experience though, if he wants it all the best to him!

Hope he stays. Thought he was being trained to take over from Bielsa one day?
— JNR (@rackjich) July 20, 2020
Completely agree. Though I’d love someone like Pochettino, might not be him, but needs to be someone of similar ilk.
Either way, if/when Bielsa does leave, it would be a very big risk handing a premier league club to someone like Corberan.
— ⚽️ (@The_Ayling_Flop) July 20, 2020
I have to say the idea that Carlos was poised to takeover when Bielsa steps away is the modern day equivalent of wanting Eddie Gray to become manager and play t’bloody kids
— The Barclays Are Back (@EamoV1) July 20, 2020
Would be a loss for Leeds but I wouldn’t criticise Carlos Corberán if he were to take a management job now; it’s the next logical step in his career.#htafc would be getting a fantastic coach.

He’s been wanted in Spain recently, so it’s clear that there’s belief he can succeed as a manager. Best wishes if he decides to leave. He deserves a shot
