The best producers of English footballers has been studied by CIES Football Observatory, to have departed clubs to reach one of Europe’s top five leagues.

The most prolific club in Europe at selling players to top-five divisions is Ajax, with 22 followed by Benfica with 21 and Salzburg with 20, making up the top 3.

CIES said: “Recruitment from a non-big-five league team is the most common way of entering the five major European leagues (48%), followed by advancement from the youth academy or the B-team of a big-5 league club (39%, up to 50% for players who made their debut in the Spanish Liga) and the promotion from a second division of the club of belonging (13%).”

This is backed up due to the figures in England, which sees clubs outside the Premier League dominate.

Premier League clubs are no longer wanting young players from bigger clubs, or pay money for other players already on big wages.

Instead, they’re turning their attentions to lower level clubs for proven players, or abroad in order to get more value for their money. Here you can see in the list below for those in England and Wales…
