Stevenage this afternoon sack and replace same manager for the fourth time in the club’s history as they try to avoid League Two relegation.
They currently sit bottom of the English Football League, seven points behind Macclesfield Town who have a game in hand over them.
CLUB STATEMENT:
Stevenage FC have today made a change in management with Graham Westley stepping down and former player Alex Revell taking over for the last 12 games of the season…
Revell, 36, retired from playing last season to begin a career as a coach and manager. He started with Boro’s U18s before being moved up to the First Team management team last September.
Mark Sampson will continue as First Team coach, with former player Ronnie Henry also assisting in the weekly sessions.
Chairman Phil Wallace said, “We are uncomfortable making yet another change as Graham has worked tirelessly for the Club since the day he arrived, setting up procedures and bringing some good quality new faces in, but with 6 straight defeats and 1 win in 13 league games, we are running out of time and we have to try something new.
“Alex knows the squad, knows the players strengths and weaknesses and we are hoping his energy, dedication and enthusiasm will rub off on the lads and bring us the wins we need to survive. It’s a reversal of the Management Team we had in place before Graham came, but Revs has done brilliantly and deserves his chance.”

Bring back Cowley!

Genius move… it's well known that having 4 different managers in a season is the best way to guarantee survival…

What a shambles

bye bye league 2, placing an unknown quantity in charge is all but accepting defeat

No shock really.
— Stephen Wells (@sgwells) February 16, 2020
Absolute shambles!!! We truly have been a laughing stock this season and this is yet another chapter. No disrespect to Revs but I’d Wallace truly wanted survival and he is getting rid of Westley you have to pay for an experienced manager
— callum jackson (@BIGC1236) February 16, 2020
What is the point. No point getting rid of Westley unless theres an actual replacement in place. This is the exact same management team now that was here before Westley came back, just Revs in charge instead of Samspon. What's even the point.
