Steve Evans’ comments about Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United causes a stir with fans on social media earlier this week
The Rotherham United manager is gearing up for a pre-season friendly against the Blades on Saturday, but in days leading up to it, spoke to Rotherham Advertiser about how he enjoys facing the Steel City duo.
Sheffield United are back in the second tier having been relegated from the Premier League with 16 points from 38 games, and are currently waiting for a takeover to give them hope for the future, while Sheffield Wednesday avoided joining Rotherham in getting relegated and the Owls will need to massively improve next season to avoid the drop zone again.
He’s got a big job on his hands for the upcoming season, returning to the Millers after leaving Stevenage in April having won 57 of his 120 matches with the club.
Rotherham were relegated back to the third tier, picking up just 27 points from 46 games played in the Championship. But considering they’re quite the yo-yo club, have made some good signings, and with Steve Evans at the helm, they are one of the favourites to go straight back up at the first attempt.
This however is going to be one of the toughest seasons League One will have ever seen, not to mentioned unpredictable too.

He said: “I love playing against them [Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United]. Why wouldn’t you? We’ve always got a point to prove, haven’t we?
“We’re always that little pup looking up at the big boys. It’s great. That’s no disrespect to anyone. It’s the nature of the size of the clubs.
“We’re very proud of what we are, we’re very proud of our history
“Where do we sit in the levels of clubs? We’re debt-free, we have a fantastic stadium, a fantastic owner and fans who would die for our club.
“We’re in really good shape. I don’t think that can be said about the big Sheffield clubs. But they’re both great, traditional clubs.
“This is the game when we start to get a little bit more serious,” Evans said. “They’ve made some great signings. Well done, Chris Wilder, a friend of mine.
“Players will be playing at New York in front of a sizeable crowd. Our supporters will be looking to see what our team is like.”
