Sean Dyche responds to Roy Keane’s Burnley jibe

Sean Dyche responds to Roy Keane’s Burnley jibe which was made live on Sky Sports as the Clarets fell to a 4-0 defeat against Tottenham.

The 49 year old joked that the former Manchester United player probably could have played in the Spurs midfield against Burnley after the Sky Sports pundit suggested as much during his analysis of the contest.

Keane felt that Burnley were poor in the 4-0 defeat and suggested he could have played in the game given how one-sided the game was for Jose Mourinho’s side

“It was easy for Spurs today,” said Keane post-match. “Burnley were desperate – I couldn’t believe how bad they were.

“I know they were bad last week against West Brom and they were just as bad today.

“Spurs have done well today and I’ve give them credit over the years, they are a nice, tidy team on their day but it was easy today.

“We could’ve played in that game today.”

Chief Dyche was asked about Keane’s comments ahead of his side’s clash with Leicester on Wednesday and the Burnley boss said he wouldn’t be taking the criticism to heart, hitting back but with humour as he usually does.

“He probably could have,” he responded.

“I don’t know if you remember him as a player, but he was pretty decent! So it wouldn’t surprise me if he could have played out there to be far to him.

“Look, I’ve got no problem with him questioning us, what we do. It’s art of their job. They’re pundits for a reason. They have a voice, they have a say

“I’ve never been precious about that sort of thing, because everyone has an opinion on football, not just the pundits. It’s a strange job, because you constantly have people telling you what you’re doing wrong.

“I can’t ever remember going into my doctor’s and telling him what he was doing wrong, or my lawyer. But as football managers, everyone thinks they can do the job better than us.

“I’m used to that. And I’ve certainly got no problem with Roy Keane expressing his views.”

It seems that every press conference Sean Dyche has will include something to laugh about.

Earlier this year, there was that hilarious John McGinn argument claim which emerged and went viral over social media.

McGinn was caught putting in a late challenge on one of Burnley’s players and understandably the Clarets manager Dyche wasn’t best pleased.

He began barking complaints from the touchline, in only that deep gravelly voice can, and McGinn sharply dismissed Dyche’s protests.

McGinn told him (Dyche) to: “Shut up.”

Dyche said: “You’ve been in the Prem one year and you think your big time now telling me to shut up?”

McGinn hit back superbly, simply saying: “You’ve been in the prem for 6 years and you’re still wearing that shit coat, you big prick.”

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has since had his same via talkSPORT and revealed he did make ‘a couple of remarks’ during their exchange at Turf Moor last month.

Words were exchanged between the duo during Burnley’s win against Villa, and it’s what was apparently said that has caught the attention of many.

Dyche wouldn’t confirm nor deny that McGinn made the hilarious joke about his coat but he did send this message to the Villa midfielder:

“There were a couple of things said between us,” said Sean Dyche on John McGinn. “But what goes on the pitch, stays on the pitch. It was nothing untoward. It was friendly fire.

“I worked with his brother down at Watford. Steven, he was a really good player. Very unfortunate with injuries. I was remarking on that. He made a couple of remarks.

“But honestly, they used to be standard. It makes a story now. It’s bizarre. It was nothing untoward. It was just light-hearted fun. I got no problem with that. Trust me. No issue with that.

“By the way, if he allegedly said that because I am not going to say that he did or didn’t, it’s a very nice coat I would have him know. And I haven’t had it for six years!”
