Roy Hodgson spotted being a sh*thouse laughing at visibly annoyed Pep Guardiola

Roy Hodgson has been spotted being a sh*thouse laughing at a visibly annoyed Pep Guardiola as Crystal Palace levelled late at Man City.

Pep can be seen outraged as he throws his head back in disbelief after Michael Olise scored a last-gasp penalty to make it 2-2.

Roy Hodgson could only turn towards the Spaniard with a smirk as Palace battled back to pick up a point against the Premier League champions, who are letting their title challenge slip.

City had been in control at the Etihad with Jack Grealish netting the opening on 24 minutes, extending his goalscoring form to three consecutive Premier League games.

The hosts then went 2-0 up after the break thanks to Rico Lewis, and at the time, looked to be claiming their first home victory in the league since the 3rd of November.

However Palace fought back, getting one back through Jean-Philippe Mateta with just over 15 minutes left of normal time.

Then in stoppage time, the 95th minute, referee Paul Tierney awarded a penalty to Palace after Phil Foden had mistimed a clearance, bringing down Mateta inside the box.

Player ratings (via Sky Sports)

Man City: Ederson (6), Walker (7), Dias (6), Ake (5), Gvardiol (6), Lewis (7), Rodri (7), Silva (7), Foden (6), Grealish (7), Alvarez (6).

Subs: Stones (n/a).

Crystal Palace: Henderson (7), Clyne (7), Ward (6), Andersen (6), Guehi (7), Mitchell (6), Olise (7), Richards (6), Riedewald (5), Schlupp (7), Mateta (8).

Subs: Ozoh (7), Ahamada, Franca, Eze (n/a).

Player of the match: Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Pep vented after the game, and didn’t stay around too long.

When asked ‘Is there anything you can put your finger on defensively at the moment that isn’t quite right?’, he replied: You do it to us, but I’m not to put the fingers to the players? Absolutely not.”

When asked ‘You seemed a bit animated during the game today. Was that because things weren’t quite going the way you wanted them to do with the players?’, Pep responded: “It was really good. Everything I had done was really good.”

Interviewer asked: “It was a penalty, from your point of view?”

Pep: “It’s a penalty. Absolutely.”

Interviewer: “Okay.”

Pep: “That’s why we give away the points.”

Interviewer: “I just wanted to ask, that’s all.”

Pep: “You ask whatever you want.”

Pep added: “It’s not bad luck, it’s deserved. We gave away two points but if you give away a penalty, you deserve it.”

“Just like in the games against Tottenham [which ended 3-3] and Liverpool [when City drew 1-1], we were excellent,” Guardiola added. “But, again we are not able to win.

“You saw the chances we created [compared] to the chances we conceded and apart from the Chelsea game [that ended 4-4] it was quite similar to the rest of the season – but we are not able to close the game.

“Playing that way, we didn’t concede absolutely anything until their goal – they had a chance in the first half when two of our players slipped, but until they scored they didn’t do anything.

“So, the team was really good, but at the end, when you give them a penalty, it is like the penalty we conceded against Chelsea – we didn’t deserve to win.

“At the end it is about being patient, and not conceding transition – the things we have done for seven or eight years in this type of game.

“But of course in the first action they run and score a goal and then in injury time we give them a penalty. In your 18-yard box you have to be careful, and we were not.”

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson speaking to Match of the Day: “Our first goal changed things really. Michael Olise was posing a few questions with his skill when he got up into that half of the field and I thought Jean-Philippe Mateta was excellent all through the game with his running and holding the ball up but of course, when you’re playing Manchester City in the form they’re in and with the quality of players they have, you’ve got to accept that patience is going to be the key.

“They’re going to have the ball a lot more than you and if you start trying to take chances and attack them too early, then they’re going to cut through you. As it happens, we got to 2-1 which gave us some hope I suppose and we then thought, we’ll take a few chances now and we will have a go at it and luckily it paid off for us.”

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: “The masterplan was decided by the fact we had to get our best and most senior players on the pitch, because we have so many missing. It meant finding a way of getting both Ward and Clyne on the field. We did that by moving Ward in one and played with five at the back. Then we decided to take the risk on Eze. We wouldn’t have done it at 2-0 and we thought at 2-1 it was worth the risk.

“Last week was specific in the way the game and any joy I thought I should have had from that game and any pride in the team performance was stolen by the way the game panned out.”
