Reporter Ian Abrahams causes backlash over a dig at the Everton celebrations while Chelsea’s Todd Boehly gives sweary a verdict on the draw.
Ellis Simms scored the first Everton goal, earning Sean Dyche’s side precious points as the Premier League season’s end nears. They came from behind twice to draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s defeat by Everton was a reminder of the club’s resilience, with Simms, a 22 year old local lad, being the hero with a brilliant late equaliser that ended Chelsea’s chances of winning a fourth consecutive match.
Chelsea broke down Everton’s resistance seven minutes after the break, Joao Felix hit a low drive – only to then been pegged back after Abdoulaye Doucoure scored from a corner in 69 minutes.
Everton was only at level terms for seven minutes before Kai Havertz scored from his spot kick after Reece James had been fouled by James Tarkowski.
Simms came off the bench and got that much needed point, and did it in style with a strong run and finish less than a minute left on the clock.
Ian Abrahams (Moose) @BroadcastMoose, wrote via Twitter: “The @Everton fans celebrate their famous draw here tonight at The Bridge.”
And boy did that not go down well, with THOUSANDS replying how unhappy they were at what he said…

Player of the match: Joao Felix
Everton striker Ellis Simms, speaking to Sky Sports: “It’s about patience, I just had to wait for my chance. We’ve got top players so I’m not going to walk straight into the team, I have to work hard and take my chance when I get it.
“It’s massive belief, we’re working hard in training, staying united and sticking together when it gets tough. We went behind today but fought back to get the equaliser.”
Everton defender James Tarkowski speaking to Sky Sports: “Unbelievable goal from Simms, he went past [Kalidou] Koulibaly, who is no slow player, and shrugged him off to score. He has been working hard, since Christmas, got his head down and those are the moments you live for.
“It’s massive. We have been showing character for the last few weeks, had a couple of bad results against Arsenal and Liverpool but we have been grinding it out and we worked hard today to get a point which was brilliant.
“Never nice giving away penalties, Ben [Godfrey] thought I was going to clear it and he thought that I was going to clear it. Reece [James] went down and we gave away the penalty.
“We take it game by game, the next game is Spurs at home at our place which is a difficult place to come and we look forward to that.
“Not trying to focus too much on other teams, we focus on ourselves and if we put the points on the board, we don’t have to worry about anyone else.”
Everton manager Sean Dyche, speaking to Sky Sports: “I’m really pleased with the growing mentality. There’s been a lot made of their away form over the last couple of years and it’s tough coming to a place like this, even if they’re having an up and down time.
“We showed them a little bit too much respect in the first half but came back well in the second half.”
On Ellis Simms: “We threw him in against Liverpool and struggled a little bit but he’s maturing into it. We just felt with his pace and his power – he’s delivered it to break free today – and then a nice finish under the keeper.
“A lot has been made of the goal scoring and lacking strikers but I’ve said all along that it’s a team mentality.
“The intent to score a goal has been improving all the time. Second half we started asking more questions from set pieces. We had really good intent to be in the game, create chances and try and win the game.
“People who change things, make things happen. They was no disappointment when we went a goal down.”
On Chelsea’s penalty: “It’s a bit clumsy but it’s a tight one for me. But it got given. The ref did give it a go, he did his best for them trying to get the corner in with a millisecond left.”
Chelsea manager Graham Potter speaking to Match of the Day: “We did a lot well and we are disappointed with the goals we conceded tonight. We thought we played well enough to get the three points but ultimately if you don’t defend well, you don’t get the result.
“We lost duels in the box and when you lose the duels, there is danger. Credit to Everton, they are good at that but we have to do better. It’s disappointing. There were a lot of good things about the performance but we have just taken one point.
“We were attacking and then they broke through. we had to defend the set pieces and not allow ourselves to be open in big spaces but we did that.
“Joao Felix was lively throughout, Kai [Havertz] and Christian Pulisic were good, good width from Ben [Chilwell] and Reece [James]. Enzo and Kovacic in midfield drove the game as well.
“Really disappointed because we wanted to win.
“[Wesley] Fofana was fantastic, defended well, drove the game but he had to come off with fatigue with his hamstring. He took responsibility. Lots of positives from the performance as a team and individually but there is a sour feeling when you don’t get the three points.
“Kante is there on the bench and he is ready. It was a difficult one to come into for his first game, he has been away for so long but he’s ready.”
As mentioned, a reporter causes backlash over a dig at the Everton celebrations; while Todd Boehly gives a sweary verdict on the draw…
@nathanmyates: Are you alright Moose? Obviously not even Everton fans think this is a famous result. But away at Chelsea, 89th min equaliser whilst in a relegation battle. That’s the whole point of attending matches is, to get that buzz at some point. Could be important in their season 🤡
@Sandancer1977: I’m not really one to defend Everton fans, but this really is a bizarre comment. Everton fans will rightly be buzzing to get an 89th minute equaliser away from home! Any set of away fans would be. Maybe fans of London clubs don’t celebrate goals any more? 🤷♂️
@nychyl: Can’t beat independent neutral coverage
@jimmymcbride1: Like your beloved relegation threatened West Ham wouldn’t be celebrating a late draw at a ground you’re expected to lose at … and btw that’s showing your appreciation to the fans who’ve travelled in their numbers
@Trentvilla1: Imagine being paid to talk about the game and understanding it so little
@DUCKmagstoke: Haven’t you got a celeb that you can pretend likes you in a photo rather than take the piss out of a fan base celebrating a priceless away point?
@CBobblers1878: A man who knows West Ham are going back down.
@FollowEverton: Jesus wept. Chelsea have spent £600m in about 6 months and we’ve spent 2 years scratching around at the bottom skint, it’s a great result in any context.
@kmowl44: Annoys me when people come out with this crap. Why shouldn’t they celebrate a vital point, particularly when scored so late. Just sound bitter when you slate it. Fans are there to celebrate good things are they not? Otherwise what’s the point?
@torturedtoffee: Amazing how members of the media never fail to get a dig in about Evertonians and the club. You could have mentioned that for the umpteenth time thousands have again filled the away end on a long away trip but you didn’t because that doesn’t suit the narrative.
@JackM_78: We’re in a relegation fight and picked up a point away from home against a champions league side, after being behind twice. Be a bit weird if we weren’t satisfied with that
@WattAWildWorld: They’re showing their appreciation to the team for fighting back twice and getting a late point. What wrong with that? It’s a shame Chelsea have a poor away support. But don’t take it out on ther teams.
@BluDazza17: Nothing about a famous draw fella it’s about seeing our team put in a shift and fight for the club. Our amazing away support are just showing their appreciation. #UTFT
@barrywyn: Sounding bitter there Moose, with your Hammers hat on?
@JVBurner53: More than happy to go in on Everton usually but this is dull, whats the point in supporting your club if you can’t get some pride or positivity from going to a multi billion £ club and getting a result and have a academy player amongst it, its something you build on.
@amypres1: If you don’t celebrate last minute equalisers – especially in a relegation battle – you don’t understand football. It’s called passion.
@Maccydoon: Best fans in the country, kept us up last year, up against the Board who are trying to give us bad press but they are the lifeblood of this club and should have more respect.
@ParkLaneBlock40: Fans can’t celebrate a last minute equaliser to help their team’s chances of staying up?
@Gawni: Oh no, passionate fans celebrating a much needed point away. Showing the players what support they have behind them……what a spiteful tweet 🖕🏻
It’s called appreciating the effort the lads all put in Moose! Don’t hate son appreciate! Your better than that soft lad! #UTFT #COYB 💙

They’d just seen an academy graduate score his first ever goal for the club to equalise in the 89th minute away from home to give them some breathing room in a relegation battle.
If you can’t celebrate that, what can you? https://t.co/2OCd2cnskq
