CLUB STATEMENT:

AFC Uckfield Town are delighted to announce an exciting complete overhaul as the club enters the 2024/25 season.

The football club will adopt a new club crest, ushering in a modern design that has a clean and clear look, that can attract a young demographic of supporters from the town and makes it obvious this is a NEW MOVEMENT for football in Uckfield.

Billy Wood, formerly of Hastings United and prior Eastbourne United AFC joins the club and will oversee the First Team alongside the restructuring of the football club to make us more competitive both on and off the pitch.

Wood, at the helm of Hastings United saw the club go from 300 spectators to hitting hits of over 3,000 with average attendances of 1,200, won the Isthmian South East Division, Sussex County Cup Winners (U23 & U16s), Isthmian Development League and Champion of Champions Winners (U23), Sussex County Womens League Champions and left with their highest league finish in the Isthmian Premier in 20 years with the club growing their youth section significantly at all ages.

Prior to Hastings United, Wood was at Eastbourne United AFC, helping them stay in the SCFL Premier on the last day of the season after at one point being 14 points adrift from safety.

In previous roles Wood has been CEO & Chairman but has held managerial jobs in the Womens game in the National League, previously at Hastings United and Eastbourne Borough.

Billy Wood: “1 am delighted to be joining AFC Uckfield Town and excited to get to work to restore some pride to the club. The committee are a great bunch, and it was a pleasure to try and help the last couple of games last season, though player availability and survival was already out of the club’s hands, it gave me a feel for the place and the people. Yes, it’ll be the first time I’ve led a dressing room in a Men’s Senior environment but when you have overseen some of the best managers, coaches, and players you know what makes a strong team and how to deliver a defined environment. It’ll be on us looking to change the fortunes of AFC Uckfield Town to be aggressive in our desire, celebrating mediocracy won’t be tolerated at this club and I am looking forward to getting to understand the footballing stakeholders locally, how we can help others around us and be a positive football environment to develop players in senior football. The barriers will be removed, and we welcome conversations.”
