Hanley Town sign experienced former Crewe, Rotherham, Port Vale, Bury, Congleton, Witton player

Hanley Town have managed to sign experienced former Crewe, Rotherham, Port Vale, Bury, Congleton, Witton player that is Tom Pope.

He returns back to his old side, of whom is where he started his adult footballing career with around 20 years ago.

Aged 38, Pope signs for them once more, and exciting one for everyone at the club, who finished 13th in the Northern Premier League – West Division (8th tier), with 47 points from 38 games played.

They remain in that league for the 2024/25 season, and will play Atherton Collieries, Avro, Bootle, Chasetown, City of Liverpool, Clitheroe, Hednesford, Kidsgrove, Mossley, Nantwich, Newcastle Town, Runcorn, Stafford Rangers, Stalybridge, Trafford, Vauxhall, Widne, Witton Albion, Wythenshawe and Wythenshawe Town.

CLUB STATEMENT

We are delighted to announce the signing of Tom Pope.

Tom becomes our first signing for 24/25 and a statement of the clubs intent.

Manager Ryan Shotton: “We are delighted to secure Tom so early, he was in our top target list and hope others will fall very quickly now. We know the areas we need to improve, goalscoring and hold up play was a major area we needed to focus upon”

Upon joining the club Tom Pope said: “Delighted to be back home in the potteries and at Hanley Town, the club I started my adult footballing career”

“The club has improved so much, in particular the past three years and I cannot wait to get a good pre season behind me and help them improve for the 4th season in the row.”

“After speaking to the management tean and the chairman, it could be a very exciting season at this football club and I am here to play my part”

Tom will also be head of our Youth Development Programme and more news to follow on that in due course.
