The Premier League club, whose player was arrested a few weeks ago, say to The Athletic that they aren’t suspending him amid rape allegation.
The footballer, who hasn’t been named for legal reasons, had been arrested earlier this month on suspicion of rape and then re-arrested for allegedly committing two more attacks on a different woman and denies the allegations.
Despite Mason Greenwood being suspended by his club, Manchester United, after he was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault and another club suspending a player after he was arrested on suspicion of committing child sex offences, this unnamed club, who like the player we cannot be revealed, is not taking the same step.
Yves Bissouma, who had been at Brighton and has since joined Tottenham, wasn’t suspended by his club when he was arrested alongside a man in his 40s under suspicion of sexual assault in Brighton last October. He has since been cleared of the allegation.
Benjamin Mendy, of Manchester City, who has denied nine sexual offences against six women, played for his club until he was charged by police.
The player, who is in his late twenties but can’t be named for legal reasons but had been set to play at the winter World Cup, was first arrested in the area of Barnet in north London on suspicion of rape and taken into custody before being released on bail.

Meanwhile, The Guardian claim that the player’s Premier League club knew about an allegation of rape against the footballer last season but allowed him to continue training and playing for the first team.
It is claimed that player, described in the report as “one of the best at his Premier League side”, was taken into custody after a woman accused him of raping her during a holiday in the Mediterranean.
The woman, who is also in her 20s, is said to have shown police photos of “bruising” after reporting the alleged attack, which she claims took place during a holiday with the player last month. The alleged victim fled the five-star resort she was staying at with the footballer and flew home.
She spoke to police on her return to the UK and made a full statement at a police station on a Sunday, showing detectives photos that she claimed showed bruising on her body after the alleged attack.
The player’s club said in a statement to The Athletic: “We are aware of the allegations which are currently the subject of a police investigation.
“We have confirmed that the player denies the allegations and is on police bail pending the outcome of their enquiries. There have been no charges laid and the player can fulfil his professional commitments including permitted travel.
“We take our commitments and responsibilities seriously and have followed our safeguarding policies and procedures.
“We will keep this matter under close consideration and will review further if circumstances change.”
The club’s decision not to suspend the player in question comes while Greenwood continues to be suspended by the Red Devils following his arrest on suspicion of rape, assault and threats to kill.
Greenwood was originally arrested on the 30th January on suspicion of rape and assault. He was further arrested for sexual assault and threats to kill two days later. He remains on bail following a hearing in June.
A third Premier League club, Everton, suspended a player last season after he was arrested on suspicion of committing child sex offences. He has since left the club.
The latest Premier League player to be accused of raping a woman on a Mediterranean holiday was re-arrested over two separate rapes on a second alleged victim.
The new claims came after an Instagram exchange between his accusers according to reports.
Six police cars swooped on his mansion as he slept upstairs after a woman had told Met officers she was raped by him a few week ago and showed them evidence of bruising she claimed she suffered in the alleged attack.
However, she also told police she had been contacted by the second alleged victim.
A source said on the 5th of July: “The woman received a private message on Instagram.
“The correspondent claimed that she had been raped by this footballer in 2021.
“When the woman was giving her statement to police about last month’s alleged holiday attack, she also showed cops the messages she had received.
“Police took the separate claims very seriously, and re- arrested the player in relation to those accounts too. This is now a multi-pronged inquiry.”
The two alleged victims are both in their 20s.
The top-tier player — who is in his 20s — was kept in police custody for well over 24 hours. Last night he was released on bail until a date in August.
The player’s career — including appearing at the World Cup in Qatar later this year — is now in the balance.
But a source said: “What was a shock for the club originally has now totally rocked bosses.”
The first alleged victim fled a five-star resort to fly home to her family from the Med.
She spoke to officers on her return to the UK and issued a full statement at a police station on a Sunday evening.
