New details emerge over Premier League player arrested on suspicion of rape

New details emerge over the 29 year old Premier League player, not named for legal reasons, arrested on suspicion of rape.

The Telegraph reported that an “internationally renowned” footballer had been arrested in north London and taken into custody over an alleged attack which is said to have taken place back in June.

The unnamed player, who was due to play for his country at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, was arrested at an address in Barnet on Monday before being re-arrested within 24 hours for two more attacks against different women.

“On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

“It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022.”

“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing,” the statement added.

However, new information is being gradually released about the arrest and the allegations.

Police add: “While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape that were alleged to have been committed in April and June of 2021 against a different woman in her 20s.

“He has subsequently been released on bail to a date in August. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”

It is claimed six police cars turned up at his mansion around 3am on Monday, whilst he was asleep, before waking him up and escorted him into custody where he remains and has so far spent at least 15 hours being quizzed by detectives.

A woman accused the player, described in the report as “one of the best at his Premier League side”, of raping her during a holiday in the Mediterranean.

The female, who is also in her 20s, is said to have shown police photos of “bruising” she suffered after reporting the alleged attack, which she claims took place during a holiday with the player last month.

The alleged victim fled the five-star resort she was staying at with the footballer and travelled back home to be with family and friends.

She spoke to police on her return to the UK and made a full statement at a police station on Sunday evening, showing detectives photos that she claimed showed bruising on her body after the alleged attack.

The player is now expected to miss his club’s pre-season tour while the investigations continue, with the Premier League season set to get underway on the 5th of August.

A report adds that the news stunned footballers last night, sharing news as word of the rape claim swept Premier League stars’ WhatsApp groups.

The arrest also sent shockwaves through the player’s club. Another insider said: “The allegations are of the utmost seriousness.

“Club bosses are stunned about this. The player was due to be on a pre-season tour. He will now not be travelling with the side.

“The law must be allowed to dictate what happens next. The player’s colleagues are absolutely dumbstruck about this. It is a hammer blow to the club, but the police must do their job.”

Twitter users reacted as new details emerge over the Premier League player arrested on suspicion of rape…

@emilyhewertson:
In the last few months various Premier League footballers have been arrested on suspicion of:
– rape
– sexual assault
– child sex offences
– threats to kill
– GBH
and now, potentially animal abuse. Is it time to think twice about who we see as role models? Btw I’m very aware that not all footballers are bad eggs. In fact, some ARE genuinely great role models who have campaigned for charitable causes/their community. But this week is a reality check. You never truly know who someone is based solely on watching them kick a ball around every week. Therefore we should think twice about who we idolise and not automatically put footballers/celebrities/influencers etc on pedestals based on the team they play for etc

@HLTCO: A Premier League footballer has been arrested on suspicion of rape and there are numerous people on here hoping it’s certain players that they don’t like. Football Twitter is rancid.

@Forzabahab: Arrested in Barnet. Doesn’t mean he lives there. People have cars, and friends they drive to and occasionally visit or stay with. Also don’t be happy it’s not your club. Be angry someone got raped.

@Jay81_LFC: What the fuck is wrong with these people???

@WhatTheForkLads: Another one?.. Something very wrong is going on with the mentality and entitlement of some footballers.

@paigeordie: vile that people are hoping it’s a player they don’t like or someone on a rival team?? stop worrying about the game and start worrying about rape culture and the poor women that are assaulted x

@Dunmoreorless: As always, all thoughts are with the woman at this time. Speculation and point-scoring over what club/player it is, is grim.

@stephpgold: Instead of speculating on which footballer was arrested, maybe we should be focusing on the woman involved in this. Surely she’s more important than the footballer

@sg_birdomaniac: Whoever has ruined the life of that girl should be behind bars irrespective of their status. Way too many footballers think they’re prima donas and think they can get away. Absolute cretins.

@ftbIheritage: Very scary how this is becoming a occurrence among PL players, they need to be educated better in the home and clubs need to teach them because you are football players you can free reign to do whatever you want

@thelittlechilli: Ffs whoever this is should be locked up. And FT stop throwing names about it can ruin innocent peoples lives

@cmbfooty: Very odd that people keep trying to guess who it is. It’s not funny, this is serious.

@shaimcfc: if you’re quote tweeting this saying “praying its _____” and naming a player you don’t like you’re worried about the wrong fucking thing and need to get your priorities straight

@a779457: People using it as a point scoring contest instead of just saying how disgusting it is 🤢
