Oldham’s Mike Fondop goes viral replicating Antonio Rudiger’s strange run

Oldham’s Mike Fondop goes viral after replicating Antonio Rudiger’s strange run in the game against Barnet on Wednesday night.

The hilarious moment came on the 70th minute with the Latics leading 2-1 at the time of the National League clash.

And despite his running style, he still managed to get past his opponent and getting to the ball first.

The run was likened to that of Antonio Rudiger, who did the same in Germanyโ€™s World Cup loss to Japan a year ago.

The German international ended up being slammed by those on talkSPORT for โ€˜mockingโ€™ Japan’s Takuma Asano with the โ€˜cartoon character runningโ€™, Rudiger exaggerating his movements.

Back to the Oldham – Barnet game now, and Fondop would have felt even more giddy after increasing his side’s lead.

It was an impressive performance for Micky Mellon’s side, who prevented Barnet from closing the gap at the top of the table as they were beaten 4-1.

A victory for the Bees would have seen them go within five points of leaders Chesterfield, but it also started going wrong on the 26th minute after keeper Laurie Walker brought down Mike Fondop with James Norwood netting the subsequent spot kick.

Walker was at first shown a red card before the referee went back on the decision and awarded a yellow instead.

Barnet did get back level through Harry Pritchard, also from a penalty, 10 minutes into the second half.

But soon Oldham were back in control with Fondop getting Oldham back in front, then Norwood grabbed his second of the game from 12 yards.

Hallam Hope made it 4-1 in the 90th minute with the result moving Oldham to within two points of the playoff places.

For Barnet, they have now picked up a third straight defeat.

Micky Mellon, said post-match, as per Oldham Times: “I know James very well and I’m delighted to be working with him, I know what he’s capable of and he was excellent tonight.

“It wasn’t just his goals, I thought with his link play he did a great job for us and he got a couple of assists as well.

“James is good going in behind back fours and back fives. We felt he was coming too much to feet.

“Fondop can do that, he can do the hold-up play, he can get the flick-ons and he can do all that work that we want the other striker to do.

“James can make the runs like he was making tonight, that’s exactly how we want him to play.

“He’s got me and Brabs (Gary Brabin) back on his case again but we know how he’s at his best and we tell him to do what he’s good at.

“I give all my credit to the players because the work that they’ve put in to produce performances like that, they deserve all the credit.

“I knew they were good players (when I came in) and hopefully we’ll keep pushing the club forward.”

Barnet boss Dean Brennan said: “Football suicide, total control, obviously massive error for the first goal, probably lucky goalie didn’t get a sent off, erm we respond really well, I think they had two shots in the first half, that one was a peno and just after they score they had a shot and then we’ve gotten some great areas, no kill in our end product and in their ranks they’ve got an assassin in Norwood so look this game is about levels, if you got somebody like Norwood who can be the difference in these games, um that gives you a huge help so.

“But look we kept going we did our best, um I think the subs made us worse I have to be honest with you I’m disappointed with my own subs, um want to look at myself um and we just lost control started hitting diags and all this kind of stuff so they could counter-attack on us risking the ball when we shouldn’t have it’s so important when you’re play against top teams and top players especially for this level that you don’t risk the ball silly and you don’t turn it over cuz when you turn it over they do what they’ve done second half to us we played risky balls and they turned it up one two on the counter attack on us and they mored us.

“So look full credit to them um thought we show a good response second half obviously to be I say to be 1-0 down I didn’t think we deserve that we had some glorious chances, Hooper had a great chance clear off the line Nicke hit the crossbar um should have scored like we have to score them chances it’s as simple as that so all in all we got we deserved.”
