Objects thrown at Fred by Man City as they lose to Man Utd – racist gesture also made

Objects thrown at Fred, by Manchester City fans, left the player holding the back of his neck as Manchester United were 2-0 up.

The incident came around the 67th minute of the derby, the midfielder was force to go to his knees after being hit by whilst he tried to take a corner.

The objects thrown at him are reported to have been plastic bottles and lighters, which can be see in the photo below…

Security quickly gathered in the corner of the Etihad Stadium to prevent anything more happening.

It has also been alleged on social media that a Man City fan was making a racist gesture.

MAN CITY CLUB STATEMENT:

“Manchester City FC are aware of a video circulating on social media which appears to show a supporter making racial gestures during the second half of the match against Manchester United this evening.

“Officials from the Club are working with Greater Manchester Police in order to help them identify any individuals concerned and assist with their enquiries.

“The Club are also working with GMP regarding an instance of objects being thrown onto the field of play.

“The Club operates a zero tolerance policy regarding discrimination of any kind, and anyone found guilty of racial abuse will be banned from the club for life.”

The match itself saw Marcus Rashford break the deadlock after VAR awarded the Red Devils a penalty on the 23rd minute following a clumsy challenge from Bernardo Silva.

Rashford then hit the crossbar shortly after as they continue to be in full control, so much so that they got a second on the 29th minute when Anthony Martial had the ball just outside the area, assessed his options hit a low shot which beats keeper Ederson at his near post.

The game started to balance out in the second half when Man City got majority of the possession but still looked unlikely to get one back.

That was until the last five minutes of the game when Nicolas Otamendi headed home from a corner to get what ended up being a consolation.

City kept battling hard until the final whistle to get that equaliser in what turned out to be a very tense finish for both sides.

United held on and secure the three points to take them to 5th in the Premier League table. Man City’s defeat has left them 3rd with 32 points, and incredibly 14 behind league leaders Liverpool.
