Nuno Espirito Santo fumes ‘why always us?’ as VAR makes another controversial call in their defeat at Brighton on Sunday.
He was left in disbelief once again over VAR’s decision-making, with Forest players and coaches baffled when Jakub Moder avoided a red card at the Amex Stadium, despite making a reckless challenge on Neco Williams.
It came in the 67th minute, with the Brighton player handed a yellow card, but many thought he should have been sent off.
VAR looked at the incident, but in the end concluded that no further action was necessary.
Brighton picked up a 1-0 win over his side, with Andrew Omobamidele’s own goal being the only difference between the two sides.
Their win means that Forest now find themselves a precarious position in the Premier League table, as they are currently only three points above the drop zone.

âWhat is going on? Someone wants to put us down?â Nuno said to the BBC.
In his press conference shortly after, he fully let loose. âItâs a clear red card, a bad mistake.
âHaving an extra player makes a big difference. We were on top in the game and itâs a bad decision of VAR. I donât judge only the referee.â
âItâs week after week. They apologise to us and it doesnât mean anything. Everyone is aware of the mistakes. And Iâm trying to be honest and keep myself calm and respectful, but itâs enough.
âPlease, someone tell me whatâs going on. Why is it always us? You should see the leg of Neco Williams. We donât bull—-. Itâs a red card. Itâs so obvious. and you know whatâs going to happen. In two days they are going to apologise.â
âIt is getting ridiculous. Honestly ridiculous,â said Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.
âThe amount of decisions that have gone against us is outrageous this season. I donât want to speak so much because I could get into trouble, so many things I want to say. In two days time we will get an apology again.â
Moder, however, of course defended Salisburyâs on-pitch decision, saying: âI think the referee knows better than me if itâs a yellow or a red. He decided itâs a yellow so I believe him.”
Forest have lodged a total of four complaints to PGMOL this season, with the first two coming back in August, regarding VAR Rob Jones’ decisions as they lost 3-2 at Manchester United.
Then in December, Danilo was sent off by Jones in the 3-2 defeat at home to Bournemouth.
In January, Forest raised concerns about Ivan Toney’s free-kick position in their 3-2 loss at Brentford.
And most recently, there were protests after Liverpool’s 1-0 victory at the City Ground due to Tierney’s drop-ball mistake in the 99th minute.
In January, Forest also complained about Brentford striker Ivan Toney taking a free-kick from an incorrect position in their 1-0 victory, before last weekendâs furious protestations after Liverpool snuck a 1-0 win at the City Ground in the 99th-minute after Tierneyâs drop-ball blunder.
Forest now sit 17th in the Premier League standings and next face Luton Town, who are a place below them three points behind.
Nuno has picked up just one win in 11 games since he took over from Steve Cooper in December.
This is how fans reacted as Nuno Espirito Santo fumes ‘why always us?’ as VAR makes a controversial call in his side’s defeat at Brighton…
@AJ_BHAFC: As a #BHAFC fan, can definitely concede we were extremely lucky he stayed on the pitch. Studs up and a red all day long. If that had been the other way around yesterday I would have been livid if #NFFC didnât go down to 10.
@smigger15: So why don’t all the managers get together? It’s not like the others disagree…. every week there’s new controversy… Again, yesterday at Liverpool match, no pen given for high boot on MacAllister….. It’s getting ridiculous now.
@gemlford: Yes we lost and we werenât great. But the decisions going against us every week are a joke and until the media address it nothing will be dome! We have to accept our mistakes but when is the officials and @FA_PGMOL going to accept that an apology isnât good enough! @SkySportsNews
@TilehurstRed: Even #nffc fans are getting bored with this now. Pick the right team to start with to go out and win these games instead of blaming the refs for our poor results!đ
@ENG2Stars1Day: Come on Nuno, please. We could have played all day against five players and not scored! Try picking a sensible line up next week please.
@JPH_84_NG: We made ourselves more of a target with the Clattenberg thing. However how about just playing better and being mentally tuned in for the full game so we arent whinging about such incidents every week. Game of the season next week at Kenilworth.
@mark_orlow: Unreal how the referees are stopping Forest from defending well and creating/scoring goals. What I saw today was a lacklustre performance by a number of players, they didn’t get out of 2nd gear and had no sense of urgency. That’s on the manager and the team not the referee.
@MickTurner77: Lack of fight. Strange team choice. Blaming results on refereeing decisions. The Championship beckons!
@dj_zotov: I’m more disappointed that the free kick that led to their goal was given than the clear & obvious red card in the 2nd half. Neither side deserved more than a point imo. #NFFC
@tonker78: Even if he had got a red card weâd still lost, nuno got it wrong in selection. And the players just donât care enough, couldnât put two passes together. Mgw canât cross his arms let alone a corner. Origi couldnât finish his dinner. Worst forest side in a long time
@PhillipeC: This is getting boring tbh. We had chances last week and two chances to clear before Liverpool scored. We need to use the sense of injustice and not sulk.
@JamesKeightley: Why do we always concede from set pieces Nuno? Sort that out instead of moaning about refs every week
@Chaz99: Do they want the ref to stick the ball in the net for them? Every week I see them crying, every week.
@SarcasticForest: We lost today cos we are shite. But when you see the decision, I’m sure even Derby fans will see how ridiculous it was.
@WomWolf93: Forest have overtaken our role as the @PGMOL whipping boys. Enjoy it folks. #WWFC #Wolves #Forest #NFFC
@OfficialFFTV: Love you Nuno but that VAR call wouldn’t/ didn’t change the game at all. Players didn’t look like they could be bothered and team selection was questionable #NFFC
@Craig74Nov: NES is saying all the right things, But we aren’t fighting etc. We won’t go down because of VAR or FFP, It will be because we aren’t winning football matches. Plain and simple. #nffc
@Mister_Forest: I find this a bit embarrassing tbh, âwhy always usâ I do get that we have had some terrible decisions against us. But rather than cry about it how about a siege mentality? Get fucking into teams from the off and get some points in the board! Getting sick of this shit #nffc
@_mrjoey: Yes, refs/VAR has been poor, but why do we keep conceding goals from set plays? Why canât #nffc take a decent % of chances? Why canât we score from dead ball situations? Why? Just why? These things are in our control!! so just tell me, why always us??
